    And thank you for keeping us on the edge of our seats showing us the houses that deserve another chance! I would buy a one euro house because I’d like to be able to redo everything my way, while ensuring that all plumbing, electrical and heating/cooling was safe, new and not likely to require breaking down my new walls to repair something 😂

      I am team cat all the way! Ha ha... but seriously, I love all animals if I'm honest. I want to get a couple of kittens here but I'm feeling a little unsure about if it's the right choice just yet... time will tell but I MISS having my own in my home with me. I get lonely without cats so this is my only real outlet for time with them at the moment. I will happily sit for 30 minutes or more with them on my walks (and the horses and dogs and donkeys or anything else that will let me hang with them ha ha)
      In terms of the house, you're braver than me but I love that take on things, you really do get to make it fully yours from the very beginning and know exactly what condition everything is in. Thanks for sharing that!

    Any 1 euro house can be renovated but it's a question of whether it is worth it or not, when for the same money, you could buy something that is move in ready as you did. I guess if someone had building skills, it might be worth it. However, we're talking not just about big ticket items like a new roof and completely new electrical and plumbing, but replastering, a new kitchen and bathroom and also all the cosmetic work inside and out. I'm pretty sure the cost to do the works needed, will exceed what you paid for your place.

    • @livinglavitasarda

      All great points here, thanks for sharing. You'd likely save if you're able to do some of the work yourself. The woman who built the house at the end of the video, she does not have building skills to my knowledge and paid for it all. She's gone above and beyond when it comes to certain things like having custom made doors etc and this is where things can start to get expensive. I am grateful I chose to do it this way, 1 euro was not for me!

    To have a gutted stone structure to rebuild to your taste is a luxury for the few in Europe these days. Building costs have soared and you really do need to develop skills and do some of the work yourself. I bought a village house in Portugal decades ago and now I have to demolish some parts. That’s OK, still get to sleep in a granite stable and will construct a typical Aussie tin shed for a kitchen. One thing though I can’t live without is a garden. Imagining how things could look is part of the fun, isn’t it?

    very informative video, specially from someone who went through the process herself. Ah, the green house: a garden, a view, no neighbors … but it all comes down to the individual situation and the budget of course. As far as I know, those 1 € houses are village houses. I guess for the price ranges you mentioned you can also find houses a bit more in the countryside,right?

    • @livinglavitasarda
      @livinglavitasarda  2 месяца назад +1

      This town has around 3000 people. You can definitely find places in those price ranges here. I'd say the more remote, the bigger the land and house and lower the price...
      Because it's a small town, the "centre of town" or centro storico is not far from the outskirts of the town, max 20 minute walk to everywhere from the centre. So, if you buy on the "outskirts," you're still very close to everythng.

    @FabiWe91 2 месяца назад +1

    Thanks for taking us on this adventure! I sometimes dream of escaping to the Italian countryside too, but there are a few concerns and I'd love to hear your thoughts on them:
    1. Water shortage: You often hear about desertification of many Mediterranean regions due to climate change. I guess this is also a reason why there are so many 1 euro houses in Sicily. How is the situation in Sardegna? Are there water issues to be expected?
    2. Political situation: I know that the rise of the far right extremists is an international phenomenon, but it is further developed in Italy than in let's say Germany where I am from. As a gay man I am very sensitive to these things, since we are the next group that will serve as scapegoats for any problem, once people are tired of blaming everything on foreigners and refugees.
    What are your thoughts on the political situation in Italy and the wellbeing of minorities? Are you concerned about your rights and freedoms as a woman?
    Thanks a lot!

    • @livinglavitasarda
      @livinglavitasarda  2 месяца назад +3

      Hello! I replied and my internet dropped out and I lost it so I'll keep it brief. Thank you for your questions btw, I get your concerns, they are real (and there are likely MANY more if you're anything like me)...
      No water shortages here in Sardinia. I think this is a southern Italy concern which I have a lot of thoughts about also but grateful to not have that issue here.
      As for politics and being a single woman here, well I try to focus on believing that I am protected and provided for always. That I will find the right people who care for me and that is all I need. What I notice around me though are open minded and very friendly people, to all, and this small community is quite diverse, more than I anticipated.
      I'm sure there is deeper trauma to this country that people express in some ways but I haven't witnessed any unrest except when it comes to fighting for their land as the people are very connected to it and many want it to be as natural and protected as possible.
      I personally don't think you have anything to worry about here but remember that what you focus on is what is present, so if you can choose to believe that you'll be safe and protected no matter where you are and if you can maintain that energy, that will be what you receive. All the best x

      @FabiWe91 2 месяца назад

      Thanks for taking the time to answer even twice! ;)
      You're so right, these two are just the tip of the iceberg of concerns. Don't get me started about worries regarding healthcare, pension, and whatnot.
      It's definitely a relief to learn that there is no water shortage in Sardinia, since that would be a no-go for me. And Sardinia is one of those places where I really could imagine to live. So that's good.
      Regarding politics, your estimation and hearing how you go about it yourself is very valuable to me. I've heard others say the same, that they feel welcome and safe in their immediate surroundings in the countryside.
      You say the community is more diverse than you expected. That's interesting and it might be a great topic for a video, since we're probably all very curious to learn what kinds of people to expect in a village like yours!

    From what I can see moost 1 Euro houses need a minimum of at least 50,000 Euros to make livable, and moore if you wanna make them special or fancy. I have to say, sometimes the best one are where they are just the shell, and as soon as you remove the rubble from the interior and get a new roof on you can then custom-build a floor plan to your liking, rather than go with whatever plan the property comes with.

      That's not been my understanding. To my knowledge, here in Sardegna, it is 4 years... and I don't believe it's from the date of purchase either but when you start construction or when it is logged as the beginning of the project...but I could be wrong.
      Honestly though, the purpose of the 1 euro/buy a cheap house in italy program is so people can repopulate these areas that have become smaller over the years due to the young people moving away for more opportunity. I don't think they have a problem with people taking their time on the project because most people do this for a new lifestyle.
      I have heard that there is a 5 year requirement to stay in the town you choose though... what happens if you don't stay? I don't know.
      I think the other thing is that they don't want people coming in, buying the houses and leaving or using them for holiday homes or to airbnb only.
      They really are trying to repopulate and create thriving towns again.

      You raise some very interesting questions. To my knowledge you own the house and the land it’s on. You dont have to use local trades, there is no stipulation of that anywhere I’ve seen. I don’t know about knocking it down, it would depend on the condition and what it would take to rebuild it… if it’s in the centre of town, it has requirements as to what it looks like to maintain the look of the area, like the tiles on the roof have to be the rounded ceramic ones and the windows and doors have to be aligned and a certain size, colours of the front of house are limited to specific shades and so on…
