Like a lot of guys my age , I was having trouble holding my bike up at stop signs and redlights , so I now ride a 2012 Trike. I enjoy riding as much now as I did 60 years ago, but even with the bigger engine, radio, cruise and reverse, I still miss my old kickstart shovelhead.
Most wannabes don't get it. You don't buy Harley's to go fast. You buy them for how they sound and make you feel. The old one's like knucks, pans, shovels and dare I say it evos sound amazing at idle and make you feel like you're riding something that's alive unlike the new rubbish
Well I think the previous comments have pretty much said it all. That Heritage does look better without all the glitter but you may want to check the fork oil next as well as the rear shock.
I have a 2001 Softail Deuce. I absolutely love it. Nothing fancy, just changing the seat, getting new bars, and risers. The stock drag bars set up is not so great on the lower back. Just put new tires and shocks on it. Black k and chrome, and still super clean. I ride it 3 days a week to and from work (80 miles total. Wofe carpools with me the other 2 days), and it's all i ride on weekends. I ride for FUN. Random 4 or 5 hour trips every few weekends to new spots/restaraunts. Rip around the country roads. My friends have 2020-newer bikes but love to get on my Deuce from time to time, and each time they get off it they say how much they like it. They say it has a more raw and gritty feel to it. Only cost me $5000.00 3 years ago. Prior bike was 2001 sportster, I wish I had kept. Great videos! Stay safe!
@OldNotDead. My first and present Harley, is a 1994 Electra Glide classic. I am the second owner. She now has 127000 original miles. She rides well. She stops well. She makes good power. She doesn’t leak nor consume oil. She is my dally driver unless it rains. She is also my fun machine. I shall ride her until I die as I am getting up in years.
Tough old bikes ! I had a ‘95 Electra Glide for nine years, they’re built extra tough as they’re popular police bikes as well. Rode mine in rain/snow, off-road including at least one rocky stream crossing, mud that never seemed to stop coming out of those huge fenders, jumped it many times ( good suspension actually ) my dad crashed it once, got hit by a semi while parked at the truck stop, knocked it into a building, broke the mirror. Thing was so heavy though, but a good solid bike for sure.
With age, fun has been the goal for me. Recently I got to ride a 1973 Honda cb750. It's archaic in every way compared to newer motorcycles and yet I find myself wanting one more than a new machine.
Inexpensive Harleys can take you anywhere they did when new just be prepared to smile and nod yeah slightly slower but we arrived at same location and oh yeah I didn't mind the same ride at reasonable lower initial cost. Are we riding or racing well I'm just riding and enjoying thanks for sharing,
Having owned a stock ‘97 HST I can tell you 2 things. 1. It definitely has a cam based on how it idles. 2. The passing lamps are factory wired to go off when the high beam is engaged. It was a US spec bike I had but I don’t know if that makes a difference. Great fun!!
Fun. That’s the word everyone forgets nowdays. Some people just have bikes for commuting and that’s fine, but if you ride a bike, any sort of bike and you aren’t having fun. You have missed the point completely! Get into it👍👍👍👍 From what I remember of the Evo days, some went better than others. Some were sluggish and others just went. From memory after a beating they would wake up, then a few weeks round town they would become less responsive. Second best sounding Harley engine ever, lovely bits of kit❤️❤️FXRs rule though 😂😂👍👍 30 seconds on the enrichment then ride, don’t flog it till it’s warm or else they do base gaskets.
I picked up a ‘98 evoRK for a song, just a few miles beyond break in. Then found a Heritage with even less miles, added it to the collection. I like my variety of tc’s , but those evo rides have soul; not fast, but that’s not what it’s about. Those new machines have no soul, no character. Your Heritage looks great. Older evo and tc’s can be found for a fraction the price of the new ones and they keep a smile on your face every mile. Stay safe and keep grinning. Cheers!
I ride a 96 Yamaha XJR1200R Kenny Roberts ❤ . It's bored, ported ,cammed, jetted etc and it flys. I'm also riding an 88 Electraglide that's cammed. I get a buzz out of both bikes but in a completely different way. The Kenny will go zero to 200 in around 11 seconds. The Harley isn't about that. You'd have to ride it to know the feeling. That lumpy cam and loud pipes. The look of it is fantastic and the cruisability is awesome. The Yamaha though is a bit of a sleeper, built by a previous owner in Japan. The muscle is outstanding. At the end of the day, both bikes give me a chubb in completely different ways. Both turn heads including mine. Thankyou for the video. Cheers 🎉
My mate has just sold his 2014 Heritage Softail and bought a 1995 Evo Heritage. He says it's all about the fun, visceral riding experience and ease of maintenance. He's got no regrets at all.
Awesome video! I have a 1990 Electra glide sport with 80,000 miles! She's a dream! Always look forward to your episodes! I'll be getting some stickers, etc Wheels up!
This was an enjoyable video. I mirror you in many ways. Older bike aficionado here! I'm 70 and been messing with bikes since I bought with my own money a 1970 Benelli Dynamo 65 after freshman year in high school. Ironically, I am playing around with a '99 Softail.
I'm eyeing the used Harleys. The other day I went golfing with a buddy. He told me that my wife is worried once I get the bike, I'd not be home much anymore LOL No honey, I will always be there for dinner :)
I bought a 1998 Fatboy this summer. It's very similar to your new/old Heritage. As a taller rider, I would suggest adding extended brake and shift levers. It made a big difference for me. Love the channel.
I think we all need at least 3 bikes, so you have one to go Aymen....... I personally have always liked the older bikes. your heritage is super cool and definitely looks fun to ride
The 90s EVO Harley’s are some of the best they ever made. And one can still maintain them at home without computers and a ton of specialty tools. Reliable, air cooled, some still carbed, and easy to make good HP with low investment. There’s still a ton of aftermarket support for the EVO bikes. It’s stone simple to get 1hp per CI. And still reliable. The price of shovelheads is going up, as they all get shipped to Japan, but the best bikes are the mid 90s EVOS.
Great buy! here in the USA 4 years ago I paid 7500 USD for a 09 FLHTC with 30k miles. sold it two years later for 7500 USD with 70K miles. Great way to go with the older bikes. Yeah I put a few hundred into it over that time but only in addons. i put a couple hundred every month into the newer one too, it looks like mine and nobody elses. thanks Aymen. Love tha ride!
The tank graphics are beautiful. I wish Harley Davidson would bring some of these back. The last few years the gas tanks have been boring. What style riding glasses are you wearing?
Recently bought a Yamaha Vstar 650 Classic for my first bike with loud straight pipes. At 52 cruising suits me fine. Saying that once of the Lunatics I will be looking for a 1300-1600 something. I too took the bags and extra seating off. She's a heavy bike for what she is. about 250kg wet.
I would be replacing the rotors when changing pads, you can see the grooves in them. Also take off the air cleaner and clean the throttle body and change out the spark plugs. Basic maintenance after going to all effort of changing oils. Nice buy none the less, have fun
He replaced the plugs at purchase. Wear Limits numbers are 'stamped ' into the disc rotors. Definitely clean air-filter ( with compressed air ) every time. I have never cleaned/serviced a throttle-body, but why Not ? Cheers !
Im not a harley guy - I think they are expensive and I dont enjoy the culture that comes with it. BUT I did buy a 'girly' harley (an 883 secondhand) and I absolutely love it. Totally get the appeal, very fun motorcycles with a lot of soul.
They aren’t expensive anymore. Just payed more for a 2007 Honda 919 with 5,000 miles than I did for a 2009 HD Fat Bob with 5,600 miles. The Honda was $6,000 and the HD was $5,500 both bikes are showroom fresh!
@@OldNotDead-Club Buy 'mineral Oil' Mate ( marked to 'suit older engines' ), the synthetics have lots of detergent ( unsure correct wording ) and also Run thinner for smaller tolerances / gaps 20W/50 is all I use in engine, whether pennzoil, penrite, or even good old Valvoline ! Service Manual for a '95 reccomends 5k kms oil changes, to lasta-longer do 4k km oil changes ( if it feels thin, smells burnt, or looks black, replace earlier !!! )
Your positive attitude and personality it doesn't matter what video you upload they're always fun and informative sometimes love it. God bless you guys, ride smooth keep them rolling!!!🩷👊👊
Good fun video, though that low tyre pressure is really unforgivable! I check my pressures weekly and I have also cut off my hoody strings. All in the name of safety. Cheers.
Definitely about fun and the old bikes are the best. They will definitely keep you honest to the bike as they don't handle or perform like the lighter bikes r new ones. Expesialy the ridged frames as they might move 2 feet over in a turn if you hit a bump. And definitely keep you at slower speeds. I have 4 Harley's still at 60 years old a 1957 FLH a1966 pan shovel trike serve a car custom suicide shift a 71 sporster bobber hand shift and my newest a 2004 Heritage softail classic. Keep riding and have fun.

@@OldNotDead-Club Have This too.. Your standard Primary Chain Tensioner is a ' manual adjustment' to take up slack...Get Rid of that, Please buy and fit a 'hydraulic chain tensioner' - set and forget forever after Matey !
@@OldNotDead-Club PS - the '95 standard 'rotor plate' ( inside Primary case, goes over the stator windings ) magnets for the charging system, were Individually glued.. total Fail eh ! At first opportunity ( when you get the Primary outer case off ) replace that MoFo ( behind the ' compensator' on crank spline ) with the reliable part.. Hopefully is already done !
I had an Evo Ultra that I put around 100K miles on it and after a spell decided to look for an Evo softail -- I'm 77 and couldn't really find what I was looking for at the time (essentially stock Heritage with windshield and NO apes), but found a very pristine 96" Heritage and it is just fine -- but, I'm still looking for "my" Evo softail -- very hard to beat that Evo motor...
I like wide white walls with laced wheels, have them on my 02 Roadking , but your bike might be able to get away with black, the music at the end was killing me, but after washing/polishing my bike for the first time in 6k miles, I felt like the music 👍
Hot-rod Tip 2 - that Failed eventually.. Tail light Lens has a 'clear' window on top. I masked it up and painted it Black Still allowed a 'glow' on Number plate, enuff to Pass roadworthys ! After 20 Years paint just fell off, DOH Was good at first but
Question to the group. In the video the front forks seem very soft. Is that a characteristic of that year bike or do the front forks need a refresh/rebuild? Maybe heaver weight fork oil for a big rider?
Just ordered some of your merch (the keychain). Looking forward to receiving that stateside. Fun, yes! Thats what the older bikes can be IMO. There’s a treasure trove of non cookie cutter Harleys out there for great prices. You just have to dig and not a damn one of them is woke! Ride safe and incredible content Aymen.
Evos are the best engine Harley ever made. Softails are hard to ride. Very stiff. If you had the 1995 Roadking you would be happier and make that Sydney trip. Now go get a Shovelhead. And really have that visceral feel. You won’t go back to the Evo. *speed is over rated*. Riding a bike with a soul is everything. Congrats for showing people the Evo. They are bullet proof. I have the 1994 FLHTP. I got 90,000 miles on it and it’s still starts and goes 4 cross country trips country trips across the United States. Enjoy!!!
Hot Rod Tip 3 ( for a '95 HD ) Air Cleaner cover - is like a pan/pot, encloses the Filter eh Either buy a 'flat-disc ' cover like yer LTR plastic lid you just removed ? ( Paint that Black & re-fit !! ) Or attack the standard air-cleaner-cover with an angle-grinder, and get rid of the sides/wrap-around bit Just have a flat-bit on the outsides, makes a high-flow air-cleaner, and Breathes Heaps better ---- yes i chuck my Leg over/in front of it when riding in Rain, small price to Pay for better 'breathing' Daily Bro Cheers and Onya Mate
All good mate. Yea I had one floating round for years and then got rid off it and didn’t know it was of a Harley and then I bought a Harley. Haha. All the best mate.
Cound'nt help yourself a ' 😂 Evo's rule ' Nice work ' the exspence comes when something goes wrong and one cannot do the work on the bike ' parts are getting exspensive also ' have fun and welcome back to being a evo owner again ... Great content ....
I had a friend with a 107 twin cam say to me that my old heritage went well. I said it always went well but now you have a good bike you see mine keeps up. My old eco had , ev27 cam ported heads mikuni carb single fire ignition high comp. The 27 ran out of puff at about 4K revs. My friends had the next cam up and was better up high. Mine was better down low. But a twin cam 88 is nice too. There cheap now. About 12k and up. My 91 flhs had a 96 s&s. Well that blew off twin cams lol. Yeh heritage need to be driven into a corner , not the same as a dyna or street glide. Ooow yeh. And they scrape lol
I'm a third of the way into the video and you haven't told us how much you paid! The second word in your title is cheap, so it's considered clickbait if you don't address the title and tell us how much you paid. I'm genuinely happy that you found a bike you can afford and that you are having fun on it. We are all brothers of sorts in this riding community. So I wish you the very very best. At only 5'3 in I settled on the first generation Kawasaki VN 750 Vulcan as my favorite cheap cruiser. I paid $1,400 for a factory touring model, and $350 to $800 for the other three Vulcans that I have plus two parts bikes. They are more comfortable to me and handle better than any of the Harleys I have ridden, with the exception of my Buell Ulysses. Although I thought the Harley roadster handled almost as well as a standard but not on the same level as my Nighthawk 750, of course. Harleys still have my favorite sounding engines. Keep having fun and stay safe brother.
@OldNotDead-Club I think it matters globally and it's interesting to know how prices compare across the Atlantic. For instance, I found that the Honda Reflex 200cc trials type fetched a lot more on the British Isles than it did in the US. But I'll check your other video discussing price ranges.
@@papatorr3669 Valid point and I do often discuss prices. They are high in Australia compared to USA (obviously as they are imports and we have a weak dollar)
The old bikes look so much better than the new bikes I bought a 96 harley electra glide last Christmas and I love it more than any bike I had in the past I would never pay for a newer bike to me this is when they built bikes

Great video, love the sound of the evo. I think the two tenders may be dual hook up for heated gear, rider and passenger.
Great point didn't think of that
First mistake running SYN 3 engine oil in an old 35 thousand k EVO motor
Why?
@@OldNotDead-Club
Buy 'mineral Oil' Mate ( marked to 'suit older engines' ), the synthetics have lots of detergent ( unsure correct wording ) and also Run thinner for smaller tolerances / gaps
20W/50 is all I use in engine, whether pennzoil, penrite, or even good old Valvoline ! Service Manual for a '95 reccomends 5k kms oil changes, to lasta-longer do 4k km oil changes ( if it feels thin, smells burnt, or looks black, replace earlier !!! )
@@danr919 20-50 weight is all that matters for Evo. Syn 3 or not
Your positive attitude and personality it doesn't matter what video you upload they're always fun and informative sometimes love it. God bless you guys, ride smooth keep them rolling!!!🩷👊👊
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching
Good fun video, though that low tyre pressure is really unforgivable! I check my pressures weekly and I have also cut off my hoody strings. All in the name of safety. Cheers.
Lol it is unforgivable but I only owned the bike 6 days when that happened
Bought a 2008 crossbones, love to ride it and makes you be a part of the human/machine bond.
cool bike
Your just getting used to a new to you bike. Nice video. Looks like a really nice bike. Enjoy.
Thanks, I love it so far!
Great video, looks like mighty craic!
Thank you
Kool vid mate i have ball of fun on my 79 shovelhead that i built turbo for and daily ride it
Thanks, awesome
Congratulations! Bike cleaned up very well, she's a real beauty.
Thanks!
I wish I could learn to work on my bike like that! Great Video!
It's easier than you think! Give something a try
Best engine Harley ever made.
Thanks, I love it
Definitely about fun and the old bikes are the best.
In case You didn Know ( I didn for a couple of Years )
Push and Hold BOTH blinker buttons for a couple-of-seconds
Turns on the hazard lights !
Awesome Fun when Riding in parades ( ie charity rides )
Press either blinker button ( either L or R ), to Cancel
Enjoy !
Good tip thanks for sharing!
@@OldNotDead-Club
Have This too..
Your standard Primary Chain Tensioner is a ' manual adjustment' to take up slack...Get Rid of that, Please buy and fit a 'hydraulic chain tensioner' - set and forget forever after Matey !
@@OldNotDead-Club
PS - the '95 standard 'rotor plate' ( inside Primary case, goes over the stator windings ) magnets for the charging system, were Individually glued.. total Fail eh ! Later replacements had a fully-glued insides, which actually held them magnets on/in....
At first opportunity ( when you get the Primary outer case off ) replace that MoFo ( behind the ' compensator' on crank spline ) with the reliable part.. Hopefully is already done !
@OldNotDead Keep up the good work. I had to subscribe . Regards from the US of A. Cheers mate!!! :):)
Appreciate the support, welcome to the channel
I had an Evo Ultra that I put around 100K miles on it and after a spell decided to look for an Evo softail -- I'm 77 and couldn't really find what I was looking for at the time (essentially stock Heritage with windshield and NO apes), but found a very pristine 96" Heritage and it is just fine -- but, I'm still looking for "my" Evo softail -- very hard to beat that Evo motor...
Cool mate, bike is looking Spartan.👍👍
Thanks
Commenting for support!
Thanks appreciated
I like wide white walls with laced wheels, have them on my 02 Roadking , but your bike might be able to get away with black, the music at the end was killing me, but after washing/polishing my bike for the first time in 6k miles, I felt like the music 👍
Lol you didn't like the music?
Hot-rod Tip 2 - that Failed eventually..
Tail light Lens has a 'clear' window on top. I masked it up and painted it Black
Still allowed a 'glow' on Number plate, enuff to Pass roadworthys !
After 20 Years paint just fell off, DOH
Was good at first but
Question to the group. In the video the front forks seem very soft. Is that a characteristic of that year bike or do the front forks need a refresh/rebuild? Maybe heaver weight fork oil for a big rider?
It's on the list of things to do.
Great Find !
Beautiful Bike !!
I have to agree Brother, Im retiring the Vulcan Voyager, and getting a really cheap brand new Street Bob, and from a dealer !!!!
It's looking better with a clean how many Ks has it on the clock Bro
It has 35k on it now
I think you've done well mate
Just ordered some of your merch (the keychain). Looking forward to receiving that stateside. Fun, yes! Thats what the older bikes can be IMO. There’s a treasure trove of non cookie cutter Harleys out there for great prices. You just have to dig and not a damn one of them is woke!
Ride safe and incredible content Aymen.
Hopefully you will change the fork seals as they look a tad bit soft..
She looks good tho..
I have a big list, will get to it eventually
@@OldNotDead-Club I just saw it on your ride.... A cam in the Evo is nice...
Be safe
In the UK EVO Softails are about twice the price of early twin cams.
@@chrislaunders8283, early twin cams are cheaper than sportsters now, it’s crazy
Getting to be similar, the early twin cams here are pretty cheap some great buys to be had
Nice bike. The trick is to find one that hasn't been messed with too much.
That's definitely the way to go
Just did 4300 Ks on a 21 fat boy fun farrrrrrrrk yeah can’t wait for next ride good times great video
Enjoy!!!
Thanks I've ridden the shovel, I prefer the evo plus evos have sentimental value for me. I hear you re the RK but I already have a bike with bags
I had an Evo softtail for a year & hated how fat and heavy it was. Ended up trading it for an ironhead & I'm much happier.
I also have a Street Glide so it feels really light
Top video love the bike and your not scared to work on your bike 😂brilliant video
Thanks that's appreciated
09 Night Train 😎… is that one of them Aussie low profile helmets 👍
Nice, it's an old Shoei
Great video and magic bike.
Thanks, appreciated
'95 fxd w 10:1 wisecos, ev27, but think it needs a wood7 cam next...(After shovels done)
That sounds like fun
Cool video and a cool bike. Hope your new used Harley lasts many years. 👍
Oh what model is it because I’m new to Harley?
Great video and the bike looks great as well….
Thank you
Put a Mikuni HRS 42 on her and high flow filter. She will fly. Convert her to ignition points on a 5ohm coil and you will never get stranded.
Thanks a carb cleanout is next and then I will decide from there
Surprised you didn't change the Derby Cover while you had it off. The front looks MUCH better clean without those hoods.
Thanks, I don't have a replacement yet
Hot Rod Tip 3 ( for a '95 HD )
Air Cleaner cover - is like a pan/pot, encloses the Filter eh
Either buy a 'flat-disc ' cover like yer LTR plastic lid you just removed ? ( Paint that Black & re-fit !! )
Or attack the standard air-cleaner-cover with an angle-grinder, and get rid of the sides/wrap-around bit
Just have a flat-bit on the outsides, makes a high-flow air-cleaner, and Breathes Heaps better
---- yes i chuck my Leg over/in front of it when riding in Rain, small price to Pay for better 'breathing' Daily Bro
Cheers and Onya Mate
just bought my first harley 1993 fat boy love it and you exactly right if you dont want that eagle on front guard ill buy it cheers
OLD NOT DEAD
I LOVE the eagle now
All good mate. Yea I had one floating round for years and then got rid off it and didn’t know it was of a Harley and then I bought a Harley. Haha. All the best mate.
NEW SUB ! Like ur content n taste in bikes. 99Fatty EVO owner n lovin it ! 😃👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice! But how much did the fun cost?
Cound'nt help yourself a ' 😂
Evo's rule '
Nice work ' the exspence comes when something goes wrong and one cannot do the work on the bike ' parts are getting exspensive also ' have fun and welcome back to being a evo owner again ...
Great content ....
Lol thank you
I had a friend with a 107 twin cam say to me that my old heritage went well.
Now, consider how much fun a 350 Royal Enfield or XL185 would be.. 😉
Lol nice looking bikes but way too slow for me
I'm a third of the way into the video and you haven't told us how much you paid!
Thanks the price only matters locally - it doesn't translate across countries. In an earlier video on this bike I discussed the price ranges in detail
Hey mate, what lid is that?
Shoei
Can't go wrong with the Heritage !
Spot on!
Nice bike looks better with the headlight glitter off
Spot on!
that's what it is all about enjoyment
Recently picked up a 2016 Deluxe for a steal with 3200 miles. Can't stay off it!!!!
Awesome
What brand is your open face? Daytona??
The old bikes look so much better than the new bikes I bought a 96 harley electra glide last Christmas and I love it more than any bike I had in the past I would never pay for a newer bike to me this is when they built bikes
That is one sweet bike. I like it a lot.
Thanks its a great bike
