    Great instructional video! I bought one of the Apimaye bottom boards with pollen trap at the Hive Life conference but haven't used it yet. Very cool to get a good visual on how it works! Thank you for sharing.

    Raising that entrance board on the Sundance should be easy with the hive tool you should always have with you.

      Hey Vader,
      You're exactly right.
      The hive tool helps open that Entrance up, no problem.

    I have a sundance and a few other traps. The sundance is really great, it is my favourite. I love the escapes and also how clean the pollen is. I want some of the side drawer versions. The other traps are cheaper and do not work nearly as well. I find the bees like the sundance a lot more than the hive entrance ones and also some others that I have that no longer have drawers that slide because they are propolized shut. They cant be opened and closed as like the sundance and without the thoughtful way they keep the hive refuse out of the pollen, I plan to invest in more sundance traps

    Thank you for sharing! I have a different pollen collector but I may end up investing in one of these 😊

      Thanks for watching @Sara's Happy Hives . I'll test them out this year and see how they do. I have a top one also which is nice because you can just set it on top and easily switch hives, however unless the bees are already using a top entrance it takes time to get them to learn where they need to go (Although maybe putting it on late at night would help with that). I like the bottom traps because they already know their entrance is down there somewhere. I guess like everything, there's pros and cons.

    Would the sundancecwork on top of the hive .
    It seems the pollen would be cleaner if trapped from above ??

      Sundance does make a top pollen trap, which I have as well.
      The downside to it is, you have to train the bees to use it by closing off the bottom entrance for a while and leaving the trap open.

      @@jimmyphadphom9247 I think it depends on what you need most. If you just want a pollen trap and money isn't that big of a deal, I'd recommend the Sundance Bottom Pollen Trap. It keeps the pollen cleaner and has a bigger collection area. It's also easier to switch between collecting pollen and not collecting pollen.
      If you need a bottom board too or are on a budget, but want to collect pollen, then I would recommend the Apimaye. It's nice because it's a bottom board, entrance reducer and pollen trap all in one. The price was also almost half that of the Sundance.

      @@TexasBeekeeper This might sound odd but I’m gonna try this instead of doing a spit I’m gonna add a pollen trap to my hives so lack of pollen is gonna decrease their population so no need to split them. What do you think?

    • @TexasBeekeeper
      @TexasBeekeeper 2 года назад

      @@jimmyphadphom9247 so you're just wanting to prevent swarming and don't want to add another colony, I guess is what you're saying? Cutting off resources could definitely slow the queen down, but I usually welcome the opportunity to make increases. You also want to make sure they don't decide to abscond because of not getting enough resources. You could always split and sell the extra bees. 😃 Thanks for watching and commenting!
