I just re-read this section (after a long hiatus from trying to read Heidegger the first time about 10 years ago). For some reason I am particularly blown away by the material in this section. 195 is so powerfully insightful and diagnostic of what can go wrong in human existence, of how we can lose our way. For me this is a real illustration of the power of Heidegger's vision of Dasein as care and as being in the world. Really remarkable. Thanks as always for your excellent work.
And thank you again for your tremendous support over here and on Patreon! These sections are easily among some of my favorite in Being & Time. It was revelatory to see how he was able to draw together all that came before (the being-ahead, being-in, being-with) under a single concept. Its a hard earned insight that is particularly rewarding if one has worked through the previous 40 sections. And his analysis of the the leveling down of possibilities you point to is another remarkable contribution, and fortunately there are several other beautiful and profoundly insightful descriptions like this to come in the second half.
Thank you Brian. I am not a philosophy student nor have i any formal study's. Just a regular guy suffering from extreme anxiety. My Journey tu heal has brought me to Heidergerr and you your videos. I have put a lot of effort into understanding and give meaning to these concepts. I can say it has helped me a lot especially the concept of "they" with relation to my anxiety. Thank you so much. I can feel the care you put into these videos.

Nice video Brian. Have been watching your playlist of Being and Time and noticed you have done videos on Dasein's temporality and historicity. Is there anyway you can do a video on Dasein's finitude?
Thank you for your comment. The structure of these videos has been to move through the text section by section, addressing themes as they emerge. However, we are very soon approaching the topic of death where the notion of finitude is made most explicit in the text. (Sec. 46-53)
Hold up.. Your content is amazing and I've learnt lots but I just randomly figured out your celebrity look-a-like! I could be blind and stupid but you look quite similar to Woody Harrelson.
This section clarified a lot. AHA moment. Thank you

Thank you and it is wonderful to hear that they have been helpful and that my own care for these videos has come through as well!

How might I begin to argue that I think you have appropriated Heidegger's thought at least as well as the man himself?

didnt understand a thing. I am a philosophy student, its my second year now, and the longer I study all of this, the more I hate it.
@@secretaband5013 Yeah, Heidegger is pretty confusing at first. It took me like 10 explainers to even vaguely get what he was saying
