Air New Zealand had to wet-lease two Airbus aircraft from Hi Fly since two of its Boeing 787-9 planes were grounded for maintenance after failure of the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines.
The Portuguese carrier Hi Fly provided Air New Zealand with one Airbus A330 and an A340, which will be used on commercial flights between Auckland, Sydney, and Perth as of December 18 instead of the Drealiners. The wet-leasing was necessary, since Rolls-Royce warned that the lack of spare parts means the repair of the failed engines will be prolonged.
