    Thanks for the mention! For sanding progression, I usually start from really coarse to fine, like around 100 grit to around 1000 grit. You can use leather or anything smooth to wrap the jaws of the clamp, it will minimize the risk of clamp marks on the project surface. Anyway, as for Giardini, they do have an extra matte top coat if you want a nice non-sticky and matte look. As for the heating method, you could also introduce all these edge paints to the test again, I am really curious how all 3 performs under heat.

    What do you do with the 3 bevel? Does it's stay unfinished or do you try and paint it and risk running it on to top?

    After the second layer how long will you take me let it dry, and why don't you sand it again, are you make the coat rounded or flat?

    Not every edge is flat. What about loops around rings that fray and need to be glued and edging? No where shows this technique. Please help. Thank you.

    For the moment I tried only the Fenice one. But now I'm curious about the french one.

  • @jjwmacdo

    can you not simply add water to the fenice and giardini to thin them out?

    will this work for softer chrome tanned leather ?

    • @glacialimpala
      @glacialimpala 6 лет назад +1

      Edge paint is precisely for soft leather. Harder ones you can burnish and polish.

    • @leathertoolz
      @leathertoolz  6 лет назад

    i have a ? so, i applied an edgecoat on my bag, how do i make it shiny coz it’s kind a dry....

    • @Porthosity
      @Porthosity 6 лет назад

      A bit of wax or Tokonole will give it a nice shine with enough heat (hand, burnisher, canvas, Filleteuse, etc)

  • @f1k199
    @f1k199 3 года назад

    What about using broun or black seiwa tokonole. I was planing to buy some.

    • @sengelhard2982
      @sengelhard2982 3 года назад

      Tokonole is something very different from edge paint. Edge paint is a plastic that sits on top of the edge

    HI nice video... Thanks for the upload..But would really appreciate if you can do one with the 'heating method' I think most of us would like to know how the edge coating will work with a Fileteuse from Regard or a chinese heat creaser please. That video would be very very helpful.

      @leathertoolz  7 лет назад +1

  • @huntergreen99

    Question bro. So on your paper there you show the order starting at the bottom and working up towards the top, correct ?

  • @Porthosity
    @Porthosity 6 лет назад

    I think the black one is a bit shinier and slightly tacky because of the wax in it. I've found that burnishing it more (hand or canvas) helps to get rid of the tackiness, with a last resort of using 1:1 water and Fiebings Acryllic Resolene.

      Hello Anthony. Thanks for the comment and tips. you could be right. I need to experiment more on this.

    I thought Vernis should be applied on flat edge not rounded off with edger.
    And it gets rounded by the multiple coats.
    Is that wrong as per your experiment?

    • @leathertoolz
      @leathertoolz  7 лет назад

      it will give you "some" rounded effect but it won't give "nice" rounded look if you don't bevel. it's just your style and look that you want to make. no true answers are there for this kind of matter.

    You picked a thick piece of leather and showed us how to edge paint 😄😄 Next time film yourself doing the edges of a thin leather (1.2 mm) like a watch strap, would be great!

    By the title one wold think that you are PRO. But your videos are not like PRO at all. So may be it's just videos you are bad at. Please, show some photos of the products you have made. I would like to see some PRO grade products by you. Thank you.
