The best character in Labyrinth is the Worm! I love him. I know hes only in it for around 1 minute but he steals the show! 🐛 " Ello!" "Did you say Hello?" "Nah. I said Ello but thats close enough!"😂❤
Lovely four volume manga sequel as my family owns it. Unfortunately, due to licensing and in the case of the original publisher restructuring after a US bookstore chain closing, that four volume manga series is out of print. As of this post and date, the sequel manga series has not been re-released nor republished officially by the current US comic book license holder, Boom Studios, in either physical or digital form. Thankfully the series can be read unofficially online, so there's that. If it gets republished officially, great!
Wait what?? Aw man... I hate having to get things pirated but if it's only available that way what choice do we have? I hope things get cleared up but I wont hold my breath all things considered either... Thank you I had no idea it's out of print. and only NOW? figures...
I was 8 when it came out in the cinema, but didn't watch it until it came to video, so I was probably about 10-ish, which was also the stage in my life where things got... intense. So I definitely agree with the coming of age suggestion, but I think that it's a window of maybe 3-5 years between 10-15 to really impact. Neverending Story is perfect earlier, we had the whole primary school in the Assembly Hall at the end of one term watching it on the big TV (which was probably about a 32" screen 😂) and Princess Bride has enough Layers to cover a wider range. Dark Crystal? I'm in my mid-40s and I'm *still* not sure I'm ready for it! 😁 😂 🤣
When I was 6-8 I remember watching this movie and feeling like it had kid elements but I remember feeling like I was watching a movie that I maybe shouldn't have at the time
@@Gigglingsiren I think that part of the problem was that my Nan (who raised me) saw me get scared at the death of the Skeksis Emperor and she stopped the tape. For the sweetest possible reason she left me to stew in unresolved trauma for a year or so. 😂
It's weird looking at the actresses face, I remember seeing her as an adult, absolutely mature. I remember eating Chinese food in NJ and watching 80's movies like this in the 90's and she was 100% "a grown up" to me.
+sissysovereign1294 I felt the same way. To me both Sarah and Judy Garland’s Dorothy we’re adults to me growing up. It was so strange re-watching both in my 30’s and it dawning on me that they indeed were kids.
Most of the time people seem to dismiss Jareth as being some sort of perv. Though I don't know if he is totally immortal, he is still relatively timeless, therefore age after a certain point means nothing. I do feel bad for Jareth really, but that is just me.
AYO...is it messed up I low key feel sorry for Jareth? Man really was in love with her and in away they kinda got their happy little world only he had to give it to save everything.
I own all 4 volumes of the manga. It is really interesting and pretty funny. Got it off of ebay about a year or two ago. Never knew it existed until i saw them, i was looking for random labyrinth stuff.
I remember when it came out. I was a huge fan of the film and thought I'd like the manga (cuz i was also a huge Otaku at the time) but I was put off by the art style and premise of the books, where they made it seem like it was all about Toby.
What I got from the movie was a young girl who didn’t want to growup but live in the past as a child and in her dreams as a princess but the more she found she could solve problems and the braver she had to become the more she “ grew up”……. And so the goblin king “ had no power over her”. My favorite part of this movie was the red creatures dancing in the garden, pulling their heads off…….. ok and the ballroom scene!!! I’m a girl!
Just to clarify. Forbes and Lie licensed this IP from the Hensen estate years after his death. It sounded like Hensen was directly involved. Maybe I misheard. But when I saw ".docx" in the shot of Sarah's screen I was like, "Wait a minute." lol
I would of told him to send the baby back and let me stay....after all if her real world sucks and the kings in love with you, is hot and wants to give you everything - why go back? 😂
Tempting, but Sarah didn’t want to be like her mom who had run off with another actor (you see them in the beginning and he looks suspiciously like Jareth) and abandoned Sara and her father. It’s implied that she wanted to grow up and be less selfish in the end.
I love that the show down happens in an M.C. Escher painting 🫨 I remember watching that as a child and having that awe and wonder the film is supposed to inspire. 😊
Fun Fact: Jareth DID make good on his promise to Hoggle. He is shown in the manga in royal attire with pin on his nose. He is then addressed as the prince of the land of stench.
@theblackcatrei agreed, they still occasionally show up as background characters in random nightmares. While they are kinda amusing now, I am still uncomfortable with how the go to limbs..... yichk......
This manga has been time and time again praised, but it's trashy and just a rewashed plot of the first one, but worse.. And the art doesn't have any care put into it like the manga cover. This manga is also, thank the gods, NON-CANON.
The barn owl turns into David Bowie... Is that a DRAK3 REFERENCE?! I mean, did Drizzy reference Bowie's character (who's whole motivation is to marry a teenager) by choosing the owl as his logo??? or is this just another really unfortunate "coincidence" 😂?
My baby's mother has stolen my son from me. Ahe has twosted his reality, she wants to turn him into a goblom, like she is. I have made it to the center of her goblin kingdom, to confront her this Thursday. She has no power over me.
Just a heads up warning about the manga!! don’t ever buy it!!!! The actual contents of the manga is actually an American comic, and is drawn by an American artist !!!!! it’s so god awful and horrendous to look at and it’s absolutely chicken scratch!! It looks nothing like the cover that the current rights holder had commissioned an actual Japanese artist to do!!

I would have taken him up on the tea offer. Such a sweetie!
"Never go that way! If she would have gone that way, it would have led her straight to that castle "
Yes, one of my favorite character and one me and my family quotes, "no I am just a worm" and
"Don't go that way, never go that way"
I love the worm!!❤❤❤❤
"you have no power over me" really got me through some tough times. love it.
"For my will is as strong as yours, and my kingdom as great. You have no power over me." So powerful!!
I mentally used this line the last time I saw my MIL. Now happily no contact.
More powerful than a lot of people know 🤔💯❤
In case anyone was interested, there was a prequel comic series where you learn jareth's origin.
where can I find that?
Whaaaaaaat?!!!! Name PLEASE?! 🙏🙏
I know abitfrank did a review of the prequel

This movie WAS my childhood....the ballroom scene is the most beautifully romantic scene. It's just perfect and unforgettable❤
They host a masquerade based on that scene in Hollywood every year. Its so much fun.
And the song in that scene is just perfect. The dress.. everything!
In the book this is NOT romantic, but I felt the same way watching it as a kid.
Realistically, a lot of people would give their siblings to a goblin king. 💖
True
Just ask my brother 😂😂
Not me
Only to immediately go “wait! No! I wasn’t serious!” Sarah is so goddamn relatable
As the youngest sibling in my family, I would have been happy to be offered to the Goblin King xD and I'd have offered my little sibling if I had one.
At least the sequel confirmed that Jareth was truly in love with Sarah herself, not just a perv who just goes after teenage girls.
...bffr still weordly inappropriate....tf😕🤦🏾♀️

IMO as a high school teacher, this wasn't intended as a children's movie. it was aimed at teens, kids Sara's age.
Yes, there is a strong ‘coming of age’ storyline.

Heck, I wish you bought it!!😭

I remember seeing the manga covers and thought they were beautiful but the art within was less beautiful imo so I couldn't get into it. Such a shame.
This movie is a masterpiece.. One of the best movies ever made.. If you ask ME of course 🙂

That's how I used to see teenagers as a little kid too. In my young mind they were legitimately grown to me back then.

Seriously though, David Bowie looks like a character from a manga in this movie 😊
RIP David Bowie you did a great work on this movie really took the personality of the Goblin King
I would love to see the second labyrinth as a movie❤
Not without David Bowie . David owned the part of Jareth . David also wrote five songs for the movie .
My favorite movie since I was a kid. Didn't know there was a sequel.
It’s a comic book sequel, it can be overridden by later productions or tied into them. I for one consider it unofficial.
