Coming from someone who had been using the deep sand bed for the past 4 years I cannot stress enough how much useful and good information is put in this video. I don't have the water filling lever on the bottom as you do but the rest is almost identical and my 120 gallon heavily planted tank is self sustained. I never have to change the water, even though I still do in once a year just to mimic the rain fall in the nature more or less. Excellent video.
@@UnMinutoViajandotrue, but the concept should be the same. I have seen people promote in fresh or marine setups insane amounts of equipment, money etc. All I am saying for healthy aquarium you don’t need all that but rather balance and deep sand (at least in my case) Good luck
Amazing way to explain DSB clearly. Would love to learn more about the water gap- ie is it needed? can it be filled with material? Thank you for putting the effort into such an awesome presentation!
“Plenum” is the official name for the “water filling area”. Deep sand beds are getting out of favor as they are known to cause tank crashes later. Deep sand bed is an old technology. The technologies nowadays are able to replicate deep sand bed benefits with far less problems.
Hi tincho, it is not just nitrates but also phosphates, because both cause algae. Both come primarily from fish food. The approach now is how much you put in in terms of fish food, you need to take out in terms of nitrate and phosphate. If you do this, you can control both ends. If you have a plenum or deep sand bed like in the past, nutrients build up to a certain extent in the future that it will one day crash and kill everything. New methods now include, bio pellets (for nitrates), GFO (for phosphates), new skimmer technology, carbon dosing, chaeto macroalgae in refugium, algae scrubbers, etc. Note you can’t use all or else the nutrients will be so low that the corals will starve. These methods are so effective that they are used by Acropora SPS keepers, which is the hardest coral to keep in this hobby. You can search for BRStv or Bulk Reef Supply on RUclips. They have a lot of good and proven methods and information there. very nice video , thank you for the info and opinion, what are the little white color bead, or brown color powder that you talk in the video ? thank you
My Dear Friend Tin. I really want to use a deep sand bed. Bare bottom tank is ugly. Deep sand bed seems nutural. 2 Questions that you hopefully will answer.... What sand is used (Coral sand, Normal sand, aragonite, calcite etc.). Also a lift tube that is air driven to pull water through the sand bed slowly..... A slow moving plenum..... Would that be a good idea ??????
I am always trying to find any real tank video for example but it is really difficult to get the good and right one. I always regretted that I didn't have proper video equipments to record my various aquarium sets for my clients in past. Therefore, I am trying my best to make the 3D animation to describe various tank setting. Hope u guys can learn them well.
Fresh water tank is very different from saltwater tank. You need to relearn almost everything if you want to move to saltwater tank and keep corals. The latest trend now for reef tank is bare bottom as sand is now viewed as unnecessary due to the advancements in reef keeping technology. Sand is now viewed as mainly an asthetic that will act as a nutrient sink and make maintenance difficult. See this video: ruclips.net/video/ZoWD4d5_x6Y/видео.html
Does anyone know if me having a deep sand bed will affect my fish or plants- it’s a 125l tank and I’m a beginner. I have chosen sand for my algae eaters to be comfortable but I don’t know about the whole pockets of stuff under the deep substrate? Please someone reply and help me 😅🥺

Excellent video.
But yours is a planted tank not a reef tank.

Thank you for the information 😊
I want to change the upper sand layer and lower sand layer.
What's the problem if I do that? thank you for your video

Hi Tin, what should be the new approach for denitrification?

DSB only fails because people drop sand directly on glass. It needs a plenum and an air lift tube to move water down thru the sand.

thank you
What is the white color bead or brown color powder referring to? I can't seem to find them in my fish store.

👍 very informative , no examples? Do u have a video with a real tank that has a deep sand 🛌?

The 3D is awesome 👍& easy to follow, i will keep watching, im about to start a tank & i want to go with a deep sand bed thanks
you can try to check some test posted in this channel Jay's aquarium. ruclips.net/video/7YxNOFrF1DM/видео.html .. hope its helps
