I already pointed out how this game reminds me of Fran Bow, but one specific thing they have in common is a potentially unreliable narrator. If you don't know about Little Misfortune, all of the events of Fran Bow could easily be seen as some sort of coma dream. Sal, meanwhile, is more or less certainly lying/twisting the truth. Too many things don't add up, even if you do believe what he says. It's nonsensical, but not so much as to make it fantastical, which ironically enough is what makes Fran Bow more believable. And the most annoying part is, the last scene with the therapist guy implies that there just MIGHT be some nugget of truth to the supernatural aspect, but we have no way of knowing how much.
Wild guesses round with no evidence for unanswered questions. 1. Why does Sal dislike bologna? Sally told us at the beginning that Travis was a freak for liking bologna because it tasted like prison food. That is the reason why. Who would like prison food? - Anyways, this story is not about the bologna. Sal just wanted an excuse to spin the narrative. 2. If it is not about the bologna then what happened to the missing kids? They are goop in the pipes. Larry was in the bathroom throwing up when he found out. Lisa said this happened years ago. I think it is when their baby girl died and Jim when nuts and killed people. He cut them up and put them in the pipes as goop. 3. Why is Jim killing again? Sal’s dad is dating Lisa. Sal spun the narrative to make it look like Lisa was fixing the pipes while Gizmo was in the bath. The note was first. Dad was feeling left out of Sal’s life now that he is sober. They went to the movies. He sent flowers. Sal walked in while Lisa was in the tub. Jim loses it and starts killing kids. - Wild guess: Sal encouraged Lisa and Henry to date to draw Jim out. See question 5. 4. Why is Sal telling this story? It is the second time he met Jim. The first time was when Jim attacked him and his mother. Travis died by accident during their revenge. Larry might have gone overboard when Travis began to reveal the love note was actually from Larry. They took the body to Jim. They might have also killed a teacher. Jim would have helped. - And Jim kept on being a bad influence on the friend group because they had no other adults around to guide them. Sal is using all possible blackmail in this story to tell Jim to back off. 5. If Jim hurt Sal and killed his mom why did Sal stay around? Sal wanted revenge. His mom was between life and death in a hospital bed and dad couldn’t let her go. Sal had to kill his own mom to free her. Sal knew he could have revenge when he found the photo of Jim in the tree house. It is sad. The moment Sal stopped trusting Larry is the moment Larry started to trust him. Larry loves Sal, but Sal is using that to try to get close to Larry’s dad. 6. Does this mean Jim is an alien? Jim certainly believes he is an alien, but all doctors tests say he is a human. He is delusional and I am skeptical about most ghost, alien, conspiracy theories in this game. Especially since it gives rational explanations for why characters think something normal is supernatural. Again, Todd’s parents are so high the air must toxic. The food at school or home is so bad Sal doesn’t eat. Sal hasn’t slept well since he sent Charley to jail for Jim’s crime. All Sal’s friends gaslight him (except for Chug who tells the truth and maybe for Ash but I think she is also being manipulated (there is another girl but I don’t know enough yet)). And Sal is an unreliable narrator who has a secret agenda. - in an alternate reality, Sal would have been best buds with Chug and wouldn’t be struggling to tell reality from fantasy. Chug has issues but manages to keeps it real. 7. Did Jim kill Sanderson? Yeah. Attacked her like he attacked Sal’s mom. The black shadow he talks about… it’s his blood lust. And we knew, we saw the picture of the two of them together over the couch. - Larry’s dad killed Mrs Sanderson. That is why he ran away and Larry framed another man. I suspect it was a love triangle situation because jealousy leading to murder is a core theme. - Jim can cheat on Lisa with a married woman named Mrs. Sanderson, but Lisa is not allowed to move on once he disappears to escape the law. Not in his mind. 8. What does this mean for Larry? Larry went to jail for killing. It was not a bunny that he killed by accident. He confesses the truth in his paintings. He found a dog by a tree and killed the poor dog. The people are gathered around the dead dog like a funeral. His father grabbed him afterwards to punish him. Larry can only tell the truth in him art. - Larry is showing violent tendencies in this character. He threatened to kill both Travis and the teacher. He wasn’t joking. Is it nature or nurture? - The only thing that upsets this is that he vomits seeing the bodies and is so upset he can’t look at the goop - Maybe there is hope for him yet. If only Sal loved him. If only his father would be more supportive about gay people… Larry feels he has to be a man like his dad. That is dangerous. 9. What does this mean for Todd? Sal wants to save Todd. He does this interview to find out information about him. I don’t think that is a lie because Sal made himself look crazy on TV for Todd. But Todd is a green eyed monster and Ash is showing signs of not being all that into him. - Bring jealous and possessive over a romantic object is not a good thing. - Todd was onboard with Larry’s murder the teacher plan. Unlike Ash, he wasn’t joking - Todd worries me. He worries me more than Larry at this stage because Sal felt the need to lie about his sexuality to the public. - I am guessing his reaction to being rejected was so bad that Sal has to twist the narrative to make him gay 10. Why is Jim trying to destroy Sal and Todd? Sal and Jim are mortal enemies. Jim destroyed Sal’s life and forced him to kill his own mom. Sal is on a secret mission to destroy Jim in revenge. Simple. - I don’t know why Jim wants to destroy Todd. Todd seems team Jim. - I don’t know why Sal wants to save Todd beyond “he’s my friend” but it feels like there is something else going on - Sal thinks Todd is in serious danger Maybe I am overthinking it and Jim just wants Larry all to himself. Jim likes to paint himself as this misunderstood alien who just wants to protect his family’s in his journal and he wants to be with them but can’t for their own good. His actions do not match the guy he pretends to be in that journal. But Larry framed an innocent man for Jim and he couldn’t be bothered to be there for his family even after being home free. *Sally Face reminds me of Fran Bow’s secret war with Dr. Deere. Half way through the story Fran didn’t even know who her enemy was, but still managed to take him down at a great cost to herself. Not because she wanted to but because he wouldn’t ever leave her alone. Jim will never let Larry go. He will never let Lisa go. He is never going to let Sal go (Sal knows too much and… I think Jim has an obsession with Sal to the point of sparring his life a few times). Jim will kill them all himself because that’s the ultimate form of control. (If Larry had his own game - it would be like MisFortune but with metal music. Larry/Misfortune has the information that Sal/Fran lacks, but is in such deep denial. I don’t blame Larry or Misfortune through because both have been manipulated their whole life) “I held the knife but never led it” - someone said this. I don’t remember who said it through These are my guesses based on what makes sense for this narrative.
If you want truth. Turn away. This is only a horrible wild guess. Final question: What really happened? Sal likes to play loose with gender. Larry noticed and so did Travis. Larry put a love note on Sal’s desk that Travis stole. Travis read it realizing that Larry had a better shot with Sal. He turned violent at the rejection and punched Sal. Larry found out about Travis steal the letter and punching Sal. They had a fight. Mrs Packerton broke it up and took something from each and said she would call the parents. Travis cried in the bathroom about his dad finding out and threw the letter in the trash but missed. Sal found the letter but thought it was from him. I don’t think he was kind or outed Larry. The issue. Mrs Packerton took Jim’s puzzle box from Larry and saw something she should not have seen. Larry manipulates Sal into helping him break into her desk to get the puzzle box - Sal freaks out when he sees it. I don’t know what Todd did to Sal to get the box but seeing the box again was triggering. Larry also manipulates Sal into stealing Ash’s camera for him so he can take a pic of Mrs Packerton file for his dad to show Jim where she lives. I don’t think he knew Jim would tamper with the teacher’s car. I don’t think he knew Jim as killing kids and would go after Travis too and he only just realized they were to hoop in the pipes. He was in the bathroom throwing up. Mrs Packerton is still alive so they break into the apartment before Jim can finish her off only to find her worse then dead. Larry always had that key ring - his dad gave it to them. Sal kills Packerton like he did for his mom and finally sees Jim’s bloody work shop. Sal murdered and proved himself one of them. He finds out what was in the puzzle box - maybe solves it with Larry. That secret temple- that is the puzzle box not the building- They are in the puzzle box. 1:51 “May our sights piece the heavens and our reach be infinite and everlasting” - The true puzzle. Larry on one side. Todd on the other. They are the “we”. They see all Sal does on the building cameras and influence/manipulate him. The words are bragging about how Sal is their puppet. The puzzle box is the key to the puzzle and the story so far. The symbolism!!! The betrayal. The realization. 2 demons, 2 so-called-friends, 2 liars - 1:51 Sal instantly finds reasons to leave Todd and then Larry. He needs to be alone to process the betrayal. Sal leaves Larry for a bit. It isn’t long but it is long enough. He learns what Todd and Larry did and realizes everything they did. He finds out that Larry knew more about his dad then he let on. This betrayal and the teacher’s death are turning points because the friend group will never be the same. I have a theory that Jim kidnapped and planned to kill Ash. Maybe on her way home from babysitting but it is more likely she was never there. They all know Jim is a killer, but the group decides to do nothing because it’s Larry’s dad. Sal feels guilty about Packerton and Travis. I think it Sal, Todd, and Larry were there for sure. Ash had to babysit (but could have been kidnapped by Jim) and Chug refused to go so they were spared the truth. It is just guesses but that is what I think is there. I also think Sal realized what Larry and Todd did to him to get the puzzle box when he found it in the desk and hated them. Trust was broken. Sal lost his friends.
@@phatmidnight I hope that my theory that Larry is showing remorse and real love is true. I hope Larry will actually be a rebel and not just dress like one. He does everything his dad says and believes everything his dad says while learning to act like Jim. I hope Larry gains independence and learns manipulation is not love. Hope he can stand up to his dad. Sal knows the truth now. They are on the same page at last but Larry has done really bad things to Sal in the name of love. And their parents are going to date each other. Things do not look good, but I hope Larry can escape his dad’s influence.
I wish I had a friend like sal in high school ;-; Also, I love the voices u do for the characters! :D
Thank you! I also wish I had a friend like Sal 🥹

Such a good point, we can only go off of Sal’s account, which initially leads us to believe whatever he says because he controls the story.
