I have this Cd player and I've not found another I like as much since I bought it in 1998. I would love to know how involved modifying it for use as a DAC would be accepting spdif. I have an engineering degree in electronics but no experience of equipment like this.

This is not a trivial task. I'd start at looking at diagrams of players that have that feature implemented

@@hear-net-au I thought the DAC board on Arcams was modular. Therefore there must be some common interface

@@peterbroad1772 There are plenty of SPDIF output boards on AliExpress and some of them also have provision for inputs. Start with those and it should then be a matter of interface only.

Hey buddy i have the chance to buy a arcam cd192 ? Whats your take on this model from the Diva series

Tee-Jay, I do not know much about it, but...The mech is a common garden KSS-213. Nothing special, but also a reliable workhorse that is cheap to replace if you ever need to. It has 4 x WM8740 Wolfson DACs. Any player where they put 4 DAC chips has to be considered to be upper drawer. Listen to it and see if you like it. Prices, as always can be found from HiFIShark.com I like balanced systems and if it has XLRs, it is a bonus.

@@hear-net-au thanks man they want $400 U.S. for the 192 , may just hold of for the Atessa cd transport by Roksan its $1100 new here in the U.S. I will admit i like my Audiolab 6000cdt alot Just not a fan of slot load drive if not careful you can scratch your cds and some of my cds are exspensive ! Its getting tuff to find new great built cd players at a affordable price , I mean 5k U.S. for the Heagal Mohican thats nuts man ! And the older Sonys ES/ESD/ ESJ have gotten very exspensive ! Hell even the Oppo 105 is hard to find under 1k but i am not much on multiformat lasers just me though

@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 I found a Arcam 7se was better than a Audiolab 6000cdt with a rega dac he'll of a lot more detail and more involvement.£100 of ebay massive bargain

Same unit with strange reset issues. Randomly reset itself on power, sometimes shuts off and reboot. I can hear the relay click occurring after it resets. I’m blaming voltages regulator too but do not know hot to trace the root cause of this random issue. Any hint based on your experience? Cooling spray on the components when it start to show the issue?

Sadly my friend, every once in a while we get one that is just too hard to pursue as a paid job. That is why I prefer to by them and then I can spend as much time as I want (or think is wise to do). I had this Krell KPS-28c which was a brilliant player but it would randomly turn itself off. So I sold it as non-working unit. Four years later, the buyer who tried to repair it at two other places wants to send it back to me for they took his money but the player still does the same thing :-) I am now more ready to take it on so maybe I will buy it back.

I had one of these, great sounding CD player but upgraded to the Arcam CDS27 SACD network streamer which bettered the older player. I will probably keep the CDS27 forever and yes I still play CDs but the streamer sounds exactly the same from local ripped CD library on local server or attached directly via USB hard drive.

I use Cambridge Streamers and it seems that when decoding flac files in real time, it doesn't sound quite as good as CD. Will have decompress them to waves to see if there's any improvement.

@@hear-net-au I remember reading Arcam describing how they achieved the same sound quality and I have played both the CD and ripped CD parallel and switching between there was no difference.
The Arcam is a fantastic player even with mp3s it does an amazing job. I have their newer line SA10 amplifier with digital inputs but the DAC does not match the CDS27.
