Glad you made the most of your three day weekend! And yay that you enjoyed the book from your sister. I quite like the short story format, so I'm very happy with collections, but I can see how it would feel disjointed as well.
I was on the go and listening to what you told of These Violent Delights on my earpods and was so puzzled 😳 because it sounded completely different than the novel I have on my tbr. When I came home just now I took my book from the shelve, looked at the flap and was even more 😳😳. What’s the case: there are two different novels with the exact same title! 😅
I remember wanted to read another book also called These Violent Delights and searched and found this book you read haha. And I think the book I wanted to read is the one Leo mentioned in the comment XD
When I was a freshman (college) I read “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” from a class anthology (but it wasn’t an assigned work). You may know it. I didn’t like it, and have never given a thought to JCO since except when I see her on TV. But man has it stuck with me. I don’t know if we’re more impressionable at a certain age or that speaks to the power of the story. There was an edge of creepiness that I didn’t like and perhaps that was what kept me away. Hearing about the four novellas called that back.
Well, I don't think I have read that story but I might want to check it out now. The vibe seems similar to this collection I read. I thought the collection was very atmospheric and effective at setting its tone and that made me like it. I do not know a lot about JCO other than that she seems to have published tons of books 🤭
These Violent Delights sounds intriguing I've just read Jade City about warring factions in an East Asian city (Kekon in the book but could be analgous with ShangHai or Taipei or Hong Kong). But, there were no romances across warring factions in the book I read.

3-day weekends are always great 🤣 and yes, I'm glad I enjoyed the book she gave this tome.

Oooh that's interesting! Who's the author of the other one and what genre is it?

I think the one Leo mentioned is probably closer to my taste than what I read 🤣🤣
@@SluggishReader I kinda agree 😂

I believe you have read more books in this genre than I do! I would love to check out Jade City.
