  • This original old airhead was shipped into us from Hawaii for a full restoration. Once discussions started that soon became a mild custom with some changes here and some changes there, throw in a hot rod 1000cc engine and all of a sudden you've got the Greatest Hits.

    I've watched this particular video a dozen times over the past few months, and it is my favorite bike that you've done so far. Outside of the gauges and shocks, there's no give-away at first glance that this bike isn't factory stock. And that's the real beauty of this particular build- while appearing factory, in reality it's 1K miles away from stock. This bike is so tasteful, so clean, so factory, so true to its roots, and yet so modified at the same time. That's a feat rarely seen these days. 'Well done' does not even begin to describe this bike. Robert, we live on opposite coasts but how I (and my 75/5) wish you were my next-door neighbor. This bike is awesome!

      well thank you sir, high praise indeed. ya know, we have plenty of bikes on the east coast, sending another one out there next week. they come and go on trucks, white glove, it's no big deal. the best part about this bike is that it's in the hands of a very capable rider. we actually just got it back in the shop for an s fairing and smart carbs

      @@RoughchildMoto Ahh….the elusive used S fairing at a reasonable price. I had no idea about the Smart Carb until you turned me on to it. Good to know if my Bings ever go south. Wouldn’t mind trying them on my Triumph Trident T160 though. Sometimes I think those Amals are trying to intentionally send me to the psych ward 😬.

      @RoughchildMoto The owner is my good friend. The bike was rough but running when he bought it. He brought it up to the condition in which you received it. Your level or restoration is what he wanted. I'm very excited to see this Bimmer when it is returned to him!

    Owner must have deep pockets to cover the labor and parts costs He’s probably got more into it than it’s worth

    From the craftsmanship side it’s nice work. From the restorers side it’s a kit bike with all the non period changing.

      There’s room for both. A stock /6 is nothing to write home about, I think it would be a wasted endeavor restoring it back to original.

    Great builds people. Would you ever consider selling pieces for build your own bikes? Bits like the custom front spoked hub for the upside down front forks you use on most builds I think would be very popular. Cheers.

    The little compartment on the top of the British police petrol tank is not for tools (they go under the seat) or sandwiches, but for a police radio set

    Very Nice build. The original 750cc engine makes 50hp though, not 30.

    • @RoughchildMoto
      @RoughchildMoto  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you. I assure you it wasn’t making 50hp after 48 years on the road

    What kind of horn, start and turn signals, old or new? I sold the same bike, a 74, small tank for $3200 in 2018 here in Honolulu.

    • @RoughchildMoto
      @RoughchildMoto  8 месяцев назад +1

      We’ve opted for horn and turn signals from the earlier /5 series. The horn is a used original in great condition and the aluminum turn signals are new reproduction

    Seat is a copy of a 5 not a 6 model, exhaust is wrong also, and yes I have a BMW. Why is it popular to alter what is a perfect bike.

    • @RoughchildMoto
      @RoughchildMoto  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hoske mufflers, period correct. Seat was deliberate. Bike was less than perfect before we restored it. Spread light

      Probably more like 65 or 70 hp. Beautiful Job. Original is always best. I have a modified '77RS and totally stock '79RT. Love the RT and the RS is having everything electrical replaced.
