Just rode this train a week ago on the same route and was extremely impressed with its comfort levels. Yes it’s slower than a Shinkansen but this is on narrower gauge tracks, I don’t think we got over 60mph but the scenery out of the window made up for it. Even the old Thunderbirds have comfort levels we can only dream of on our new Hitachi Azuma’s in standard class here in the UK. Not Hitachi’s fault I hasten to add, horrible seat choice was a government decision here.

I literally just looked up this train as I was interested in booking a ticket to Matsumoto and your newly made video pops up! Thank you for making this!

Thanks, very well done. Will be making this journey later in 2024 but exiting at Shinjuku where my hotel is. Great to get a good idea of what is involved.

Is there enough space in the last row of regular cars to put 2 big luggages? Debating if I should send my luggage ahead to Tokyo from Matsumoto vs. taking it on the train. Thanks!

There is for sure enough space for two big luggages, there is even more luggage space near the door area so you should be good taking them onboard!

Don't see Mt. Fuji. Is it just too far away?
