Many people requested I make a better video on how to bring Captains back to life, so here it is for everyone to enjoy!
Be sure to check the Reddit Megapost for much more detailed information: bit.ly/2nRg0Zc
Leave any questions in the comment section. I will gladly answer anything that wasn't covered in the video.
*UPDATE*
I recently discovered that the game picks a random Captain at the start of the game and makes him "immune" to the trigger. The way I found out about this was starting a new playthrough, finding the Captain that is "immune" and trying the trigger on him. He didn't come back, then I reloaded the save file I had backed up and tried again, this time I killed the Captain with a different attack and he still didn't come back. I did this on three different saves and every time, the "immune" Captains refused to return. Beware of these guys!

some guy grabbed me by the face, and now i am subscribed, i have a huge blue hand print on me now
now that i think of it that would be nice for a "branded" cosplay
I suddenly want to try a "Branded Uruk Cosplay."
SniperSpy10
same, some bright blue dude, scared the shit out of me, but he seems cool
Penta Deuce that would be really cool!
To me he said: "Nan iChir Gelair."
This took three years. Imagine how long Shadow of Wars nemesis system breakdown will take everyone to figure out
Its pretty easy as far as returning goes the more a captian kills you the higher chance the earlier in tje game the higher chance and the method determines the scars or roles they might get
Man talk about testing the games mechanics. Great job and dedication.
This is the feature I would love to see the most expanded in Shadow of War.
lostfan10000 It's gonna be a overhaul...
A good one so good that in the gameplay trailer the guy you just killed came back and missing a EYE!
*10 seconds later*
immediately dies by headshot
+Some Guy Paragon
In SoM they also has scars from older battles related to the way and place where you attacked them though.
Admittedly, it was nowhere as cinematic.
lostfan10000 i want something like cutting off a captain's arm and watch them return with a prosthetic one or something like that would be cool
That is confirmed exactly as you described. I would recommend watching the first live stream on the Shadow of War youtube page.
+Some Guy Paragon Yeah he was a necromancer and it seem he level got lowered by 10 after coming back. Would be fun to see how gear system works and if you can sell off 50 piece of gear at once, rather than having to sell each piece of gear one by one like the old rune system.
I love this channel.
Me too.
this vid reminds me of gorth fast feet my immortal uruk whom never dies no matter how much i killed him and he has yet to even touch me in battle
First Uruk Captain I killed returned.
Virtually Impossible to kill in Melee combat.
Immune to Ranged.
Explosive Ammo.
I THINK he had Beast Slayer.
Can get one shot via Stealth.
Annoying, not a problem.
I second that
Mine was similar, but he couldn't be killed by stealth- only wounded by stealth.
I had to use hit-and-run tactics to finally bring that behemoth down.
Needing to be killed twice to trigger a return seems like a lot of work for a debug feature. It's probably there to make interactions more interesting. If some rando captain can rise from the dead from time to time, then the guy who's killed you over and over *must* be tough enough to do the same.
The hollow's army is growing very fast, 5k strong with more joining. I'm proud of you Uruks Hollow and if you see this keep the content great as always!
Smith The Druglord More will come with shadow of war I'm sure
And now, we`re 11K already and STILL RISING! Dang!
GDSpectra 1 month later 15k
November of this year, he`ll receive the Gold RUclips award for having 100K.
"The bear in the beehive wants his fiddle back" should've been my senior quote.
There have been instances where in general not decapitating the Captain will enable them to spawn.
My most recent encounter with this was my brother on his playthrough. He had this guy named Krakom Horn Thunderer that killed him once. However, poor Krakom had one weakness. He could be instantly killed by a stealth finisher. So my brother killed him as a revenge. Later on, in the fortress of Nurnen that's up toward the top right of the map, my brother was attempting to kill a warchief. During the set up mission, a stealth based one, he was hiding behind a corner as an Uruk captain suddenly appeared. Without a second to lose my brother attempted to assassinate him and one shotted him. Krakom had come back. We all laughed about it, and he had to restart the mission following a failure. Once again he was transversing the fort when suddenly an Uruk captain appeared. You guessed it. Krakom reappeared. Without a second to lose we assassinated him and found that it was him once more. Krakom came back 3 times from death, all because we didn't chop off his noggin. The 4th and final time we killed him involved chopping his head off. He has not come back since.
I love how you chose Goroth. He was my first real nemesis. Came back three times, he did.
You know what, you're worth the subscription. You produce good content.
this happened to me with one captain so many times that he was immune to basically everything, took me about a day's worth of playing to finally seclude him and cut off his head. he also went through multiple scars (wraith, betrayal, metal patch and finally bandages).
Holy cow, this channel is growing like crazy! Been here since 400 subscribers!
I've only been watching this channel for a little while but I've gotta say the passion and effort put into these videos is so apparent, you deserve all those subs and more
This was very helpful, especially when getting new Uruks. Whenever I don't like the Uruks on my presentations, I grab a graug, possess it and hunt them one by one, ensuring their heads come off and make room for new uruks. No good uruk so far, but I'll get my awesome urks one time.
Thank you for making this.
I love this channel, so glad I discovered it in its infancy
Appreciate the hard work you put in Uruk, could you let us know a bit more in-depth how to get an Uruk Bandaged as me and a few people are still unsure?
fought a guy like 3 times, first killed him with a caragor, when he came back he feared them and had scars on his face, returns, threw him from a bride to the ground, survives, again returns, later arrow headshot, thought it would be the last time, seemed more lethal than the previous wounds, then mid mission, surrounded by dozens of uruks, bastard shows up again, a more personal fight that ended with his flying head, never saw it again, gotta love the little details in this game
Followed the whole tutorial, with help from the mega post, tried and kinda lost my favorite Uruk. Thanks lol
When I was new to the game, I came across a level 5 Uruk archer named "Pash the Cruel". Seeing how I was new to the game, Pash stomped on me. And I dimwittedly targeted him again for revenge, only to be defeated again. he gained levels rather quickly because he would ambush me when I was in the middle of battles and stuff. SO I had to run from him for half the game (he was that strong) until I was able to finally kill him. he kept reviving and I didn't know why LOL. I finally caught him alone just walking aimlessly. (surprisingly, no other orcs were nearby), and I blew his head off, having newly obtained the ability. Pash was my scariest opponent...Dead only due to a convenient find 😂😂😂
I had no idea about the Return feature. I just thought I was going crazy when I saw someone I thought I had just killed.
Dude, by the time Shadow of War comes out, you'll be the official hub for the Shadow series. Mark my words.
I have one captain hasn't stopped coming back to life I removed he head 2 time and use his own bodyguard to kill him then when I fight the tower he still was alive I hope he's gone for good?
HellFire are using a PC or a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One I'm using a PS4 I'm so shocked about it
Ah yes Zog the Adviser a totally pussy who I threw off a cliff everytime I fought him and he wouldn't just stay dead.
He was a pussy compared to Korguth the Brave the toughest orc I ever faced and he killed a heap of times, so I just hid in a bush until he approached me then I stabbed him the neck which killed him intsantly (his only weakness). I was ashamed of beating him this way so I was looking foward to facing him again so I was dissapointed to face Zog for the umptenth time.
man you got me back into playing shadow of mordor and I have to say I love ratbag
Man you are doing a great job. Shadow of mordor and shadow of war are my favourite games of all time...👍
I can't wait what videos are you going to make when Shadow of War comes out!
"Incredibly rare"
Pushkrump the Steady, my nemesis came back six fucking times, each time before the last was a beheading, the last time i jammmed a dagger in the top of his head. Seemed to stop the sod.
It's just.. so good to see someone who is good at a game..
I'll have to give this a shot. I had one white skinned Uruk come back 4 times in a row in the sea of núrnen map. I didn't leave the area and he spawned there 3 times after the initial takedown he then came back with the slashed face scar then with the bag head for the other two. He had tracker and just gunned it straight for me every time he came back.
I remember I had an Orc Captain who kept coming back, even after I removed his head twice.
You better give that beehive bear his fiddle back.
Guessing if you use drain and the Captain's head blows off it's treated the same as a normal decapitation and is a "rare" return event?
I've never seen this topic explained this well!
Hi @Uruk's Hollow. Great job, hope you grow like crazy with SOW.
what? I have alot of time playing this game and never knew you could grab and brand a terrified Cap'n...
One thing i would really like to know is what is the easiest way to take out an olog with a beast. Whenever I try it no matter how low I get there health they just take whatever blow from the beast then oneshot said beast. I hope you don't mind me asking but, how did you recommend going about it? That being asked, keep up the good work on these videos.
MEATS BACK ON THE MENU BOYS!
It's not a developer thing, this is because that guy becomes your main nemesis and they want you have have a more persistent nemesis
Long live this channel... especially when shadow of war comes out. For now tho, Keep up these tip videos
There are other triggers. It's not as effective as letting them kill you twice, but it works for me.
When you make captains flee with "terror" (brutalise/combat and ground executions to a lot of uruks around them), or simply using their fear against them, or boring them by standing on higher grounds and avoiding their thrown axes for a while, you've got to kill them before they escape.
Could answer why did Pâsh Ranger-Killer and Grûblik the Grinder return back after killing them with their greatest fear (Caragor). Thanks for telling! :)
And yes, Pâsh actually had a *very interesting* line to say about that when we met again. Got a screenshot of that in my Steam Gallery. :,D
Cool. :)
Never gonna forget it as long as I live, since I didn`t see any videos that tackle the Captains talking about how were they mauled by Caragors while sporting their scars.
A video compilation of all the comments related to the deaths would be interesting... I myself have a few favorites :
"You penetrated my face! Hmm mmm" - The Rhymer (after I killed him with arrows),
"YOU. BURNED. ME!!!! - The Gluttonous (after I blew him up with a barrel of grog),
"Ever since you burned me with magic, all I can smell is burned rotten uruk flesh... I LOVE IT!" - The Skinner (after I killed him with wraith magic)
Damn right and yes, The Gluttonous one (Rûg, maybe?) is one of my favorites as well, the other being "I hate you! I hate you for everything you`ve done to me! But you cannot finish me off! I will OUTLAST you!" . :,D
"This is what happens when you try to play with a wild beast, oh yes ..." (shudder)
If I try force captain to return, it does not work that quickly. If it ever worked for me. Sometimes I just forget that I killed a captain, and then I saw one with the scar. Or they come back randomly. But well. I think this game is so cool even if it's six year old. Great job!
Its amazing!
"The bear in the beehive wants his fiddle back"
ok then....
"Decapitations prevent captains from returning. sometimes they do, but it is extremely rare" lmao going through the campaign, an uruk captain came back TWICE after I decapitated his head once and threw him of a cliff the second time haha
One of my nemesis had a bandage/sack AND a metal patch. I respected him
This channel has to be my favorite
btw hollow any uruk called ever wounded can come back from 3 decapitations and 5 deaths I have tested it out although they take much longer to respawn sometimes even jumping from udun to nurn and will even come back with scars you never gave them I believe this is another way they tested the return system as I have only ever seen 5 of them after 100 hours of playtime and many new starts btw the 100 hours is looking for them not total playtime
one cpt Zathra of the Spiders returned 4 times to me randomly.
Goroth be like - as you can see iam not dead
Really awesome video, like usual, but after trying for some time, I found out that this doesn't work. I even let the guy I wanted kill me 6 times at some point, and it did nothing. And only 2 captains ever returned on my save, one with them was pretty good, but had the most boring scar ever (betrayal, coming from a branded guy who didn't want to leave him to me) and one had my favorite scar (wraith from the wraith burn) but was shit because of the traits. Also, Uruks do return in the Forge. I had to kill a very annoying guy in there 3 TIMES, and that one didn't even need to kill me before that. So, guys, don't bank on this to work, it most likely won't
My nemesis is lugdash bone licker he is a level 20 legendary captain with a poisonous weapon and is immune to everything but stealth finishers he has come back multipletimes 4 that i can remember, he's getting added to the army (:
He looks like the orc version of death, he has black leather wrapped around his head with string and bone shoulder plate and bone arm pads and the rest of his body is deathly pale, its a very terrifying sight not to mention i think he could slaughter all the war chiefs at once considering my highest one at this point is a level 16 and he was a legendary captain before i first killed him (im not too far in the game)
Oh, the traffic this channel will get once Shadow of War drops...
I had and i still have a bloody captain that is a berserker with the weakness only for burning and everything thing else he's bloody immune i've killed him 7 times( 2 being battle-hardened trigger,3 being wraith, and the other 2 from burning and just throwed him off
he has marks on he's neck and alot of marks on he's face
I'm scared
Sounds like one of my Vendetta targets, only that my target was a Hunter. Don`t ask me how many times I used Wraith Flash.
Can someone tell me the name of the background song that plays at 4:40.It's epic.
man i might ship my console back here in UAE I'm starting to miss gaming. I love fighting difficult captains especially when I'm ganked and their power levels are high multiple captn are hunting me. the thrill of minutiae movements drives me on the edge especially when I'm at a disadvantage so raw, so pure. it's like a perversion of the predatorial instinct. after enemies won't go harder than lvl 25, i bought bloodborne 😂😂😂
I just got the game and was shock when a captain I killed came back like 6 minutes after I killed him he had the wraith scar
now the face bandages are supose to come from stacking scars, but i had one orc return his 2nd time with both burns and a cut-up face. (and i know it was a scar, not just that special orc head, because he bitched a lot about his face being torn up.) so was it a fluke?
so im wondering if i can stack wraith and the head plate
an uruk in my game came back to life and is a pain now he has barely any weaknesses and for some reason he has two scars. bandages and metal patch
Dude I love your channel, informative, easy, quick, and entertaining. Will you be doing videos on shadow of war?
Ps. I wish you could post a bit more
Yes, I will be making SoW videos. Fasten your seatbelts.
i one time had this one fucking captain come back, he surprised me while i was attacking another captain and got his revenge and killed me so i tried to find and kill him, i forgot to check his strengths and weaknesses and found out after the second time he was immune to combat and ranged finishers, then when he killed me he somehow got immunity to stealth finishers and on top of that he was immune to grabs, wraith stuns from the front, vaults over the enemy, was enraged by everything caragors graugs and the bee things he literally became unkillable in my game as i ended up getting this fucking superbeast of a captain before i could brand or do anything cool really, to this day on that save that captain has still not been defeated
I followed all the steps and I have yet to find my dead nemesis
I have one slot in my second row that doesn't refill and other captains won't promote themselves to that slot. How do I fill it w/ a new orc captain?
You can let a Captain from the first row kill you.
Uruk's Hollow tried that and it doesn't work. I even tried clearing out the current warchiefs, and that doesn't work either.
That probably means this Captain you have on the second row is indeed alive. You just have to find him somewhere on the region.
Has it been the same dead Captain for a long time? Have you tried advancing time to see if that spot gets taken and another is opened?
I have scoured lands and advanced time numerous times. I also have branded every other captain if that plays a part in at all.
Is there also an effect involving prosthetics? This only happened with one Captain but I killed him several times and two of the times he came back he came back with a prosthetic limb (a hook the first time and a peg leg the second). He possessed the exact same appearance, voice, and name.
These prosthetics are tied to the Captain's name. For example, the Warchief in the thumbnail is a Graug Catcher, he is missing an arm and a leg.
Hopefully this is a thing in Shadow of War.
So you're saying what I experienced was a glitch?
Cuz the third time I killed Black-Blade when he came back he possessed the exact same body type, name, weapon, and scar that I left on him the first time but had a hook. Later on he came back again with all those plus a peg leg.
Not really a glitch. This is a thing that was left out of the game, actually. It is likely that you are misremembering one Captain for another.
Altough if you have some sort of image or clip showing this guy, I would certainly look into this. Stuff is discovered every day.
What does "the game likes to keep an empty slot on the second row" mean?
one question i had a besserker who was super op i tried to kill him 4 times died all of those times then got one of my warchiefs to kill him (the finishing blow was him getting picked up by my warchief and getting slammed to the ground) but he never came back , did i do something to prevent him from coming back or was it just luck, i was abit disapointed since he was the only one who killed me 4 times
instead a guy who was never able to kill me came back 5 times
Nemesis returning is just random. He also sais himself that this trigger is not reliable. So yeah, you did nothing wrong. It's just random.
phoebe makar dude, such a slam turns all of your bones into dust. No wonder he never came back
ive killed the same captain ariund 4 times now and even beheaded him, he keeps coming back, ill try one of your methods of stopping then coming back
I was playing this earlier and killed gorfel, fast feet he had power +16 so I beheaded him and he came back as gorfel the brutal and didn't remember my character.
Is it possible for a Nemesis to still return after the Lord of Mordor mission is that permanent no matter what?
If you're trying to initiate a random grunt uruk into the nemesis system, does their first kill on you that actually puts them on the army screen count as one of their kills on you that needs to occur before you "kill" them?
If a grunt kills you and becomes Captain, this kill counts towards the trigger, so you would only need one more.
While this all seems highly thought out, some say you can still see the reincarnations of Prak Jaws hyperventilating in Nurn.
I love your videos. If a captain kills you more than twice does it ruin the trigger? Ive tried three times and they haven't come back, at least not in the area I've killed them. I'll keep trying.
It shouldn't mess it up. Are you doing this in a new save? It seems the game picks one Uruk and makes him completely unable to cheat death for whatever reason. Usually the one Captain that spawns down the cliff, in the Black Road after the prologue.
Uruk's Hollow honestly, dude...this is my original play through file. I have over 50 hours in it. So the 4 or 6 times may have already been blown. I'm just nervous about losing it. So when I go offline, i'm too scared to delete the file! I have a decent follower...with everything I want except regen or blood thirsty. I was able to manipulate his traits to get deadly though. By the way...your voice is great for narration. Very soothing, and when you said, "Just want I always wanted" to the level 1 rune...I laughed out loud. Thanks for all that you do. Can't wait for the SOW vids. I'm not going to buy it until my follower and nemesis are perfect. I'm 50...so I'm patient...ha. I hope all of this work is worth it...when we move over.
you should do one for every mechanic.
i'd like to see some dope uruks/orcs evolution like pokemon you know level to level that's be really dope :/
um what happens if it is a warchief
Nothing. Warchiefs don't come back from the dead, unless your Nemesis is a Warchief, then you would find him in Lord of Mordor.
If on of your Uruk Captain follower dies, can he return?
What's funny is this worked and I did it to an uruk he came back 5 times then I eventually took his head because it got really annoying
I lost Luga the Mad trying this smh it sucks lol I just wanted him to get a scar to look better as a warchief and live up to his name. I tried forever to have him show up but he never did. He even said you better kill me or you'll regret it and I luckily didn't pop off his head. And now where his body was lying someone ended up taking that spot. I have another guy who I tried with this too and his body is still there for a couple of days now, which is weird. Guess you're just luckier than me to have guys come back. I've had it happen a couple of times but they weren't anyone I wanted lol luga I helped him go from 8 to 20, sucks, all that time wasted
How many hours do you have in this game?
There was a captain who killed me a bunch of times a think about 7 times before I put him down he never came back and he's spot was just replaced buy another uruk. but I don't know where the ambush spawns are mabey I haven't checked there yet. I also have many other uruks with the same case of them killing me but just not comming back or their spot just gets taken.
Can you still give him wraith if the brand ability is unlocked
does this work for the Nemesis Forge as well? Cause i have yet to get anyone to return from the dead.
I've played the game for about 80+ hour's and I've never had a Uruk return... is my game broken or something?
Maybe. I know there is a small glitch that causes captains to come back, but still show as dead on the army screen due to you fast traveling before looking at them or before they announce their return. That, or maybe you just haven't noticed, as this feature is sometimes very subtle.
I did a new playthrough and went on an early killing spree, one returned TWICE without having to die at all, so this isnt exactly accurate.
If he returned twice without dying, could this mean that he was an Ambusher instead? Especially if on his returns, his face wasn`t mangled at all?
He returned twice without ME dying, sorry, should have specified, he died twice, I died no times at all, he still came back.
Oh, right. Well, the trigger was supposed to be random, thus I don`t blame you for being baffled at all. Even though I did hear from others that the trigger could be tripped by next things as well:
-> provoke their Fear/Terrify them/make them Retreat and then kill them while they`re retreating
-> throw them off a cliff
I got a total of 9 different Returners without dying myself as per this time, at one point actually having the so-called "Sauron`s Trinity of Returners" alive at the same time (Grûblik the Grinder, Pâsh Ranger-Killer, Mâku the Humiliator), and among them were also ones that returned multiple times (Mâku being one of them, returned to me 3 times, even if he was *decapitated* once), thus I suggest you to expect everything.
But this system works on forge nemesis?
How do i do it in Núrn (I wanna make ratbag my nemesis so I can't do it in Udûn) and I'm gonna brand the nemesis after I just wanna make him my nemesis and give him scars so he will be more badass.
So can i make my returner return again? and how exactly?
I once had a captain that came back 5 fuckin times even though i sliced his head off
I HOPE i can build hype with you here😁
The wraith scar doesn't work I tried it with 12 different uruk with different traits and all it does is brand them
After you get Brand, you have to kill them with Wraith Flash or Burn, otherwise, you end up recruiting them.
Are you gonna do Shadow Of War videos?
The Real Alpo Yeah, it says it in the first 10 seconds of the video
Whenever I tried to drain kill it just ends up branding them.
Can we choose our nemesis on purpose?
Is this return feature used to make them stronger for you to dominate and add to army?
You can do whatever you want. My goal (and this is what started this entire channel) was to Brand 5 Captains with scars and make them my Núrn Warchiefs. But you can use this to create artificial Nemeses with grudges against you.
Can this still work on captains with humiliator?
I've had an Uruk come back twice and now has two types of scars
who does the voice for that uruks hollow intro?
JB Blanc's.
Can you do this in the nemesis forge?
Does the Return mechanic only work in Campaign mode?
Yaoi Marik Yup
Can you scar uruks in the forge?
What is the betrayal mark?
Josh Walman guessing if a branded Uruk kills the captain :P
Josh Walman it's an arrow and knife in his back
Symbolizing a backstab and betrayal
Vikrampic Now I know, thank you
"The Unkillable" ones have it as a default, just a bit of an interesting tidbit.
Do you think you cause do this to ratbag? or would it be impossible?
It is impossible dut to Ratbag being a Warchief. This feature is disabled for them.
