I don't blame Atlanta for drafting Penix Jr., Cousins is 35 years old coming off a knee operation. It won't surprise me if Penix is the starting QB next year.
Peyton’s coach quote was nice but that has nothing to do with Cousins who is coming off an Achilles injury. Penix is the clear backup and is gonna learn for at least two good years unless Cousins craps the bed OR gets hurt which is believable because he is coming off one. Also Kirk is upper 30 something. QBs play a lot longer now so I’m not worried about Penix age. He can still play for 10 years after sitting for 2. The only thing I question is Kirk contract I do think he was over paid. Or wish he signed 3 year deal vs 4 year deal. I actually like they thinking even tho it’s unpopular
It’s a great debate. Here’s the thing - if you are Raheem Morris what is your long term job security tied to? Based on what we see around the league, it’s QB play. If you believe Penix can be the guy in a few years….you’ve locked yourself into a job for a decade or more and can do the other things to build over a ten year span. I think Raheem is smart to trade one top 10 pick for that level of security. But I understand the criticism.
