Thanks for this. I found the first 20 pp. really tough, but the next 20 pp. much easier sledding. I was an "educator" back when I was alive and working in the Beast so it started to make a lot of sense to me. I'll be back for part 2 in a couple of days.
Thanks, Tector. The book is definitely written from the belly of the Beast. Everybody is broke and working for total assholes. Let me know how you like the book when you're done! s
Sounds good, Starphysics. You need a good stretch of time, and a whole lot of stupidity in the political atmosphere, to give that hilarious book room to breathe. Something tells me you'll get it. Stay safe. S
I read JR during the dull endless hours of the winter of my freshman year of college. Such an incredible novel. Jack Gibbs' romance with Joubert is so tender and stands out against the profound comic-sadness of the rest of the novel.
Yeah I agree, that's the heart of the book-hilarious awful Gibbs and tragic Joubert. What a beautiful mess. We have an IBA society and I can put your name on a map and it entitles you to lots of meaningless benefits... I did a couple talks on the IBA somewhere along the last few months or so... Welcome to the bathtub, StewART!
Tough question. I love JR far more than REC, and it seems more user-friendly so I'd go for JR. But they're both a lot of work the first time through! JR is effing hilarious tho. s
Cephalus is the old geezer early in Plato’s Republic. Loving this book
Thnx
I'm on page 300 now and loving this novel.

Glad to hear it, John! Go have a bathtub blast! s

Just found your channel. Loving this series. Makes me want to re-read JR. One of the funniest novels I’ve read
80085word69 Thanks. Yeah it is one of the few "big and challenging" novels that is even better and funnier the second time you read it! Run that bath!
JR was just rereleased so I’m excited to dive in. It’s sitting on my shelf and I will be using this video series for sure.

Great stuff, thanks!
Any time Jack! Enjoy JR!

@@Scottmbradfield Sounds good! Love this channel!
@@stewartlindstrom1792 Thanks. Give me a location and I'll put you on it as "StewART" ok? Scott
Hi Scott, I haven't read any book by Gaddis, do you think starting with "JR" is ok or should I start with "The Recognition"?
Tough question. I love JR far more than REC, and it seems more user-friendly so I'd go for JR. But they're both a lot of work the first time through! JR is effing hilarious tho. s
P.S. Welcome to the bathtub! s
@@Scottmbradfield thank you so much Scott. I just suscribed to the channel. Merry Christmas.
