I tried the glove, just couldn't keep it from turning when I applied max force. Could have tried a stronger grip perhaps but it wasn't feeling safe anymore :) I don't doubt it's a technique that works for some though.
Thank you very much for genuine information. RUclips sometimes work like Superman he knows very well what to serve. Actually I really wanted to know for last few days.
I managed to hold the nut in place by squeezing it between a heavy metal door and its frame, after trying and failing with various other things for 2 hours. 😅
Cool that you pulled it off, that's a technique I've never come across before! I would love to see a video of that ... on second thoughts, no, I can't even imagine it without something catastrophically bad happening!
Interesting idea - using a tool with a shaft that already has holes in it that you can attach the chain (as opposed to drilling holes or welding, etc.)
Or get some channel lock pliers and an old leather glove to hold it in place. Works like a charm.

I used an old chain and held it together with a pair of vise grips. I used a pair of needle nose pliers. It worked well
This guy works for a shop or company like park tools
Just get the right tools and save money in the long run
Agree 100%
You just need a semi-non-movable post to wrap the chain around. I used my car jack handle on the upright position. Worked great.
Still a bit unstable imho, but a decent idea!

Yes, RUclips really is fantastic like that. Glad the video helped!

You can easily make a set with half of a pair of pliers. Disassemble an old pair of pliers and attach a chain to the hole where the Bolt went.

Good information! Thanks.
Good to see you guys here again, and glad you found it useful!
I used an impact gun cuz it was no spinning eithrr way
Fair comment mate.
😂 could you have told me this wisdom a few hours ago. Thank you nonetheless!
home made chain whips work fine
I'm sure it does. Depends on how good the one you made is, and how tight your lock ring is.
I just use oil filter wrench/pliers
Cassette lock ring? Try a 40 year old 2 notch Suntour freewheel.
:D a bit before my time, that!
every heard of vice grips
Ever missed the point?
I just use a numatic impact gun and no whip needed
Have heard of that technique working well, if you have an impact gun handy!
❤❤
Waiting for new video
Bro why don't you buy A proper Chain Whip
The whole point of the video is to say you should do exactly that :)
30-40 is a lot?
Try a hub nut done to over 400
No doubt! Just trying to say that 40 is enough to make it hard without the right tools.
LOL - "professional grade" chain wip. If you're that far down the DIY path, why not get the cahin hip when you're down at the store?
My man, that was the point of the video! 'Buy the right tool', is what I recommend you do (or take it in to the store).
