Good stuff Jens. What I will say is, nothing beats doing your AST1 course. Getting hands on and used to your equipment before heading out is very important. Having the equipment is useless without knowing how to use it. Understanding your transceiver is especially important.Just to add, skiing down after your tour should be planned and methodical. Rarely do you ski down together. I hope people read this comment.
Thanks and your right. I pinned the comment to the top so people will see your point. ⛷️
@@StompItTutorials Anything that gets people educated in the dangers of backcountry skiing is great in my eyes though! Let me know if you want to shred whistler one day!
also, you might be able to rescue your friends, but how good is your first aid ? If you really want to play outside the boundaries, avvie and first aid education are essential.
Absolutely! Nothing substitutes proper training on avalanche avoidance and rescue and first aid. Definitely do a course! These topics were beyond the scope of this video unfortunately...
Affirmative AST I was good good basic skills!
Dave is a solid compliment to the channel; would love to learn more from him
More Dave videos please! Any touring and off piste stuff would be cool. Some ideas:
1. Any video that involves Jens and Dave doing something rad in Chamonix involving axes and rope
2. More avy info
3. Tips for first tour involving a mountain hut
4. Practical advice on throwing freestyle tricks into an off piste line (eg how much do you need to scope the landing before hitting a drop?)
5. Skiing couloirs
Sick tips. I think we can make a few of those :P
ooo skiing couloirs would be perfect. And also there is never enough avalance info & tips & things to look for
Dave had some really nice tips! I just started ski touring so this was really helpful
Awesome tutorial! Apart from teaching everything very easily, Dave even showed me something new: the skin trick! Bring him back, make a series a Touring! At least I wouldwatch them all around a 1.000 times so I'd drive the views up 😂
Thanks so much! I started ski touring this season and wanted to get to know the basics, but there wasnt one video as well done and informative as this one! Really good stuff one this channel, keep it up like that!
Very good video! Really nice tips were given. Hope to see Dave back on this channel! Any subject would be interesting to watch! Looking forward to it! ❄
Dude. Thanks for doing a touring vid. I learned more from watching this than in an hour of searching for decent touring beginner instructional vids.
Great topic, really enjoyed the introduction to Ski Touring. Huge thanks for better sound, visuals, b-roll, time taken to film it! Makes huge difference and much more joy watching, listening to you! :)
THANK YOU!
Few related ideas for videos:
1. Touring skiing technique for beginners.
2. Touring skiing technique for advanced/pros.
3. Touring boot types, ski types.
Well done, you perfectly captured all the basics. This will stand out on RUclips! 👏🏻
Excellent how to video. I started BC touring two years ago and am fortunate to have an experienced ski touring friends to go with. They are locals who are familiar with the terrain and very patient coaches. I have learned about safety and touring technique from them. One other thing that I have learned is the value of light weight gear if you are going to skin any longer distance on a regular basis. If you can afford dedicated Backcountry gear go with pin tech bindings under 600 grams per binding, lighter BC skis and boots with rubber touring soles. Stay away from frame binding and skis built for lift serviced skiing if can afford lighter gear. My first set up K2 Pinnacle with Marker F Tour 12 and Nordica Strider boots were heavy and not efficient on the accent. My second set up which is Solomon S Lab boots, Volkl VTA’s with Dynafit Rotation 10 has helped my accents with the dedicated BC gear. So do it right and go light the first time you buy your BC set up.
I use dedicated pin bindings for most of my skiing. I love them but they don't take that much abuse when you are freeriding!
Awesome video!!! Have always wanted to go backcountry skiing. Would love to learn more from Dave how to be safe in the backcountry!!
Excellent video as always. Really solid and unpretentious. Thank you. If you and Dave make more touring videos I will watch them.
Thanks Jens. I have been touring for a few years and there is great advice to be found in this vid. Cheers.
Awesome video, great information and flawless shots!
Hey stomp it
I love your videos
Wish I could ski more
😊
One of my favorite vids so far! I would like to learn more about avalanches and rescues
yes dave back on the show!
Great video, love the videos when you are learning new stuff.
I've been waiting for video like that :D Great production ;)
Seriously such great videos, thank you!
Great video! Enjoyed it pretty much! Informative one
More Dave Please! I enjoy any kind of backcountry content.
Best video to date, really informative.
man, what a killer video! and I want to learn everything from dave, but more about avalanches would be nice.
Just the right content to show my sister what backcountry skiing is all about! Thanks
This was great! Really something I wanted to know more about as there are no ski hills near by
Great video thanks Jens. I’d like to see more videos on skiing off piste, re technical skills and strategy. Cheers🍻
Great video. I love the trick for testing for 30° slope.
Sound tips, great tutorial and very well presented. Would love to see more on equipment, more precise clothing, materials, layering, being prepared for temperature extremes and what to wear/what to pack …cool stuff 🤘
Perfect timing. I just bought my first freetouring ski :)
Great primer for BC skiing. Been back country skiing for a while and I leaned a few things and a few tricks. Love the skin folding.
Great tutorial, it's easy and fun to watch. You're my Sking guru Dave. Thankyou!
Cool skin tip....awesome! You could do something about ski to crampon transition...and the use of ice axe!
favorite episode yet!
Just got into touring and you post this!
Thanks for making this!
Nice, practical and easy to grasp vid guys. Thank you.
Very nice video....I have really appreciated.
Great video, more from Dave pleae
Great video!
This was great. Thank you. Very helpful indeed
Great content! Thanks!
Awesome video
The tutorial I needed! I actually completely forgot about this video. Definitely good timing for it with regards to all the resorts closing due to covid-19.
Awesome vid!!
This vieo is so helpful and super relaxing to watch!! :)
Yes to Dave please 👍
Avalanche knowledge and skills!
That feeling when one of your favorite youtubers has made a video 3minutes ago😀
I went to Laax this weeks i hope i see you ! Good vids 🔥🔥
nice video!
amazing video again, I would love to see some tipps on how to get into steeper terrain (climbing, skis on the back, abseiling,...)
i would like Dave to show building a staircase through a cornice. But some snowpack assessment stuff would also be cool.
Nice job guys! I'd ski with ya any day!
It's also important to note where you are skiing and what avalanche conditions are more likely to happen there. If you're skiing in the cascades for example you'll know to keep an eye out for big loose wet avalanches, where as if you're skiing in the Rockies you know to look out for wind affected slopes more than anything. Different regions have very different avalanche problems so knowing what to look out for in the area that you're in can be very helpful. Also! if you're starting touring and you can't seem to get your kick turns down, don't stress! It takes most people a solid season to really get it down, kick turns are hard!
Steeper than 30 less likely to avalanch skin the flats 10 deg riser hike the steeps
I just got my first pair of at skis so I’m super excited to go ski Quandry!
12:25 I've never seen that before. Love it!
Really good content!
Would be nice with some information around skiing on glaciers, also how to read the terrain on glaciers to avoid hazards.
This was a good one! Thanks guys!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! :)
I'd honestly always pack crampons. You never know when you find yourself on a hill which is shadow exposed and icy - even during a hot day
Thanks guys!
Very cool. All of it
Most important thing when setting a skin track: make shallow, wide, switchbacks, especially if it's a large group. It should be like an easy hiking trail, not steep ramps. If it's a big group, the track will get packed down a lot and become very difficult for the last people to ascend because it's so smooth.
Class channel! Thank you.
Glad you enjoy it!
Love the tips!
Would love to learn more about avalanches, and backcountry navigation. I ski on the US east coast. Many of our lines are in the forest. It’s easy to get lost without good map and compass skills.
hey guys really nice intro video, you touched just this most important points. You fit together perfectly :) Well there s plenty to do around backcountry, means technical stuff, avalanche prevention, you should add some bit climbing on top of that. But well - what about to make a series of videos oriented to the backcountry itself as you did on freestyle topics Jens?
An ice climbing video with Dave would be so cool
We'll see what we can do.
Очень полезно, спасибо 🙏
I like his choice of snacks
Great info and beautiful scenery. Entertaining getting into alpine touring as jus came from local ski show this weekend. You both did very well. Ski recommendations? as see shift bindings being used would be appreciated. Thanks.
A few more things you need in your pack ....1. compass. 2. multi tool. 3. Topo map ......well theres 3 important ones , I carry more . I do mountain rescues and it amazes me how unprepared folks are out there .....
Don't worry I always carry those things!, Not sure why we didn't included them in the video. I guess there is no point in having those things if you don't know how to use them also!
Nice, I vote for using a rope to access a coloir or avoiding a small cliff, there are not many tutorials about that. Crevasse rescue is my second option. Thanks!
Think backcountry is becoming more interesting to a lot of people that are getting sick of Disney style resorts and crowded slopes. It's pure!
Slope angles can vary as much as +/- 4° in complex terrain. Slope angle is measured as the average angle of a certain area.
Everything I know about skiing, I've learned from Jens' videos 😌
Sounds cool I wish I could do this😂😇🤪
Hi Both, thanks for the video. Would be nice to see a film on preparing for and then making one of those steep decents Dave has listed on his website please?
Great wid
A video about how you film your videos would be cool
Wow thanks
Definitely would like to see move of Dave on the channel
Those 8 dislikers are jealous because stomp it is a god at skiing
Ps you are my favourite skiier and youtuber :)
fyi guys, you should ski down on top riser, makes a tame 30 degree slope more steep and gnarly!
Nice to see Dave is also a fan of duct tape like Jens is
I’ve always wanted to learn about how downhill ski touring works, especially maintaining the binding where it doesn’t hook into the heel. I’ve seen people doing it by bending their knees and bringing them towards their skiis on the turns (like a lunge). Super interested to see a video about that.
Also, great channel and awesome tips!!
I think waht you are describing is telemark skiing. It's not exactly the same as ski touring, and there is specialized equipment available. I am pretty sure I saw some great RUclips videos on that subject...
Thorsten Reitz I will definitely look into that. Thanks for the help!!
Great video, I started skiing on pistes in the early morning this season to get the hang of it before being more adventurous in the back country, i love the peace it brings, I also did avalanche and transceiver training. Two specific topics I struggled with; firstly the correct clothing choices as they differ from downhill skiing in my experience; and secondly there seems to be differing opinions on whether you are actually allowed skin up the side of pistes?
Can you do a video on tree skiing? Thank you
Hey! Please make a tutorial with rail techniques! How to swap, get balanced, tips and tricks etc!
Id love to see dave back again to teach about how to limit your avalanche risk as much as possible and test for avalanches on the mountain
Me too. Maybe in spring.
Hi! Can you please do a video where you give some tips about renting skiis and skiboots.
the new salomon binding loks sooo amazing ! how was it to ski with them ?
what vest do you have on in this vid? its pretty dank
Als ob du auch Skitouren machst wie geil!!!

Weißt du, dass er deutsch spricht

c’est genial
Hey jens what vest is that it looks so comfortable
The legend says, he keeps saying "yeah" before every single sentence
What skins did you use in this video? I woule really appreciate an answer, thanks 😊
Do you need special boots for shift bindings or is alpine without walk mode fine?
