The best tomato I ever had in my life was White Tomesol. HUGE flavor, beautiful balance. I'll always grow it. IDK why more don't. Maybe cuz peeps think whites/yellows are going to taste pissy.
Taste is subjective. That is why we try different varieties, then you find what you like. Different for everyone, so there is no right or wrong. Fun to grow and see what comes of it.
Live for your tomato reviews, I think we share the same palate for tomato flavor. Brandywine Sudduth, Goose Creek, and add to that, Black from Tula and Marianna's Peace which are my top favorites. I'd like to encourage you to try Joe's Plum, Rinaldo's, Ernesto, Sister Miriam, Fidelio, Dagestanskiy which are paste or oxheart tomatoes. I've added one tomatoes to my 2023 garden from one of your review and it is, Blondkopfchen tomato. You made it sound a little better than SunGold as far as not splitting as much and it hangs on the vine better. Those two things were important to me because SunGold splits so easily and falls from the vine in great numbers. When it ripens I'll see about the flavor.
I grow in hot, humid NC, zone 7b and Cherokee Purple is absolutely amazing down here. I think a lot really has to do with where you are, what the growing conditions are, etc. It can make all the difference.
To reinforce the point that you made: last year I grew Black Sea and was shocked by how good they were. This year I grew them again and they weren’t even close to ones I grew last year. We had an unusually wet July which could have contributed but I feel that I was getting some inconsistent seeds from MIGardener. I wish I saved some from the tomatoes last year 🤷🏼♂️
I had such poor production from my Brandywine Sudduth Strain here in Union County NJ. Had great production from my Cherokee Purple. Brad's Atomic Grape continues to pump out plum sized watermelon colored delights. I have ordered seeds for next year. Ananas Noire is going to get a shot!
Have you tried the Rose tomato? It's my favorite pink so far. I wondered how you compare it to others, I've only recently started growing the past few years but I'm also trying to find my favorites by growing a ton of different types. You've also recommended pork chop and napa chardonnay which I started on my second round of planting this year. Your palate seems similar to mine so I thought you might like rose
I hate to tell you,but I'm very certain that the 'Ananas Noir' you are showing isn't an Ananas Noir. I've never seen any that have looked even similar to that on the outside or on the inside. They are various combinations of dark and light green mixed on the exterior with pinks through the center and occasionally slight orangy or yellowing glow. The inside should be a very distinct pattern in the colouring. The flavour should knock your socks off. That tomato just doesn't resemble an Ananas Noir in any way. Could the seed have gotten mixed up?
Could you possibly record when you go to your friends house and show the whole process of the pizza making and the recipe now that would be great thanks for a great video
I agree that so many of these new tomato varieties are stunning and unusual in their looks, but if it doesn't taste good, then I'd rather have a regular Brandywine, Cherokee Purple or German Johnson. I am trying Ananis Noire this time for the first time and I'm excited to try it! I've heard positive things about it.
This is the first time I have watched your channel so I am not sure if you have or have not tried Paul Robeson tomato yet. Last season that and sun gold cherry tomatoes were my favorite. I am planting 14 more varieties this year and those two have earned a spot in the lineup. I am going to have to try white tomatoes now after hearing your review. TY
I enjoy the honesty and value the time you have put into your tomato trials!I tried to collect and grow the rainbow of tomatoes: White - Tomesol Peach Green - Aunt Ruby’s German Anana’s Noire (green/red) Yellow - Taxi and yellow pear Pineapple (yellow/red) orange - Persimmon (kellogg’s Breakfast) red - cosmonaut Volkov Brandy wine san marzano red/black - cherokee purple black krim chocolate cherry&plum
Cool, thanks. The guy milennial gardener also says that but likened the yellow brandywine as very nice and he showed another brandywine hybrid like brandyboy or something. Its here on youtube
What's more important than seeing your head? Seeing the tomatoes in the tomato taste test.... duh. Sorry, but it just struck me as so egotistical when you said that.
Haha I cant stand these eating sounds, I have misophonia. Really want to watch it but I cant stand to hear the slurping :( Just bite it, dont suck it! LOL

Mmmmm, Pink Brandywine, my favorite too!

I grew Thornbergs last year and had the same response as you. I did not regrow this year.

I don't think so. Pretty much the only pink tomato I grow nowadays is brandywine.

That was my thought, too.
Yep I totally agree. Looks nothing like that

Captain Lucky is a green when ripe tomato.

Can you Link the paste video?
Ross, how was the taste of the hybrid brandywine compared?
The one from Johnny's? Sudduth Brandywine is way better.

Maybe it's all the rain you get? That can make the flavor quality go down. James Prigioni grows up north. He'd be a good source!!!
Maybe one type is better on sald and some are better on hamburgers .
