Yknow like adding some more embellishments but not going so far that it feels like you’re playing a random drum cover that was transcribed off of a flashy drummer’s RUclips video. @@TBoucherCH you can add different notes without being excessive. What is excessive is the hi-hat. The song uses an 1/8 note pattern on the hi-hat, not 1/16’s. 1/8s also makes it easier to line up the kick since you don’t have to worry much about your foot being lined up with the non-dominant hand. The tambourine is just filler for what might be empty space and to add some more energy to the song. If a live band were playing the song, you would either see the drummer with a tambourine attached to the hi-hat or the vocalist or someone off to the side playing tambourine. Also, just playing hi-hat with little else to do makes the drum chart stale after a while. That’s why when you see rappers perform with a live band, the drummer is adding their own flavor to the groove without turning it into something completely different. It’s just called getting creative, instead of trying to copy/paste whatever you’re hearing. It makes it more fun for everyone
