Love your expertise Josh. I wish Wabi-Sabi could be incorporated in life in general… Being a lover/admirer of old things, fall/autumn, etc. I certainly hope I can incorporate the Wabi-Sabi philosophy (if I may call it that) in my photography. Thank you!
I'm glad you like the video Paul. It's the perfect season to really appreciate nature's cycle and try to bring the philosophy into your everyday life. Enjoy the season!
Hi Josh, I stumbled upon your video by chance and felt compelled to reach out. I’m a commercial photographer, but the past few years have been challenging-I’ve lost several close people and, recently, our 2.5-year-old dog. These experiences have shifted my perspective, and I find myself less interested in chasing jobs or competing with younger, low-cost photographers. Consequently, this has led me to reconsider my direction. I’ve always been drawn to simple, evocative black-and-white imagery, reminiscent of classic analog photography. Recently, I enrolled in the BPSOP course Finding Beauty, which has been refreshingly different and inspiring. During a critique, my instructor used three words to describe my work: asymmetry, zen, and poetry. Curious to explore this further, I started researching my new personal style and stumbled upon the concept of “wabi-sabi” photography. While I’m still learning what it truly means, I’m excited to dive deeper and see where it takes me. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of this concept.
Thank you for sharing your journey Katarina! I'm glad you've found an outlet for your creativity and expressing yourself. I am working on a book and course around wabi-sabi and photography so sign up for my newsletters where I can let you know about early-bird access and other news: www.shizenstyle.com/newsletter
Excellent Josh, thanks, and great photos in there. I’m seeing that my natural instincts or aesthetic sense seems to be vey much in line with this idiom or ethos.
