I've seen another method: grab the apple with both of your hands (fingers meeting around the upper hole, backs of the palms meeting at the lower hole) and, using sheer force, try to rip it apart without tearing the peel. With some training, it will break in two almost perfect halves.

Dear CrazyRussianHacker. I'll be soon posting a video of an easier way to split an apple that's a bit less noisy and requires no table or other object to set the apple on. If you could take a moment to check it out it would be great, I'd love for you to post it. It also works a bit quicker, however does take a bit more strength.

personally, I tear apples in half by pressing both thumbs in the gap where the stem is, and pushing them against each other to push the two sides of the apple apart.

Just take off the stem from the top then use the middle of your thumb of both hands putvthe thumbs on the top and split them if your strong enough!!!cx
youre breaking it with your fist not with your finger. youre only putting your finger there to make the split which barely even worked..
I think its easier if you just put your thumb in the hole and just push it down i think it hurts alot less and i know its faster
