Tennant Creek and the Barkly region is already subject to some of the strictest alcohol laws in the country, with emergency restrictions implemented in 2018.

The town was thrust into the spotlight following the shocking sexual assault of a toddler and alcohol abuse clearly becoming a problem. The NT Liquor Commission has since reviewed the restrictions and proposed a suite of changes and additional conditions for the region.
