    Hi Michael and friends, it's always good to have these tests made by you ,fellows! Like my CBF600SA these bikes all have wonderful riding positions and, more important, 99% of its use is on the road. I will try these M9 RRs one day. I now have Bridgestone BT 023s which are almost standard. Before those I had Dunlop Qualifiers which were really good. Very good grip and sport behavior! I hope that those M9 RRs aren't too expensive. Thank you MCN.

    Put a set of the M9 tires on my VFR, formerly had Angel GTs, felt like a suspension upgrade. Very happy with the M9 tires.

    I used to have the M7rr on a Speed Triple, they were fantastic, such grip all the time.
    Now i have the Gs, been wondering what tyres to get next. Now we know. Cheers for the review.

    I’ve always been a big fan of M7/M9 using them for the last 4/5 years. Big improvement for adv bikes.

    Currently on Trailmax missions on my gs, they really are a fantastic long last tire, even for a mostly road rider. Do think I’ll try a set of sportier buns for next season tho, just to see how different they feel. Nice to have more options regardless

    I know putting Pirelli Angel GT's on my Super Tenere made a Huge difference to the handling, was like a whole new bike. 🙂👍

    I've tried a lot of sport tires over the years. Bridgestone, Michelin, Metzeler, Dunlop, etc. After trying a lot of what's available out there,I only trust Metzeler M9RR or M7RR for everyday use sport tires. I trust no other tire to do what I demand of them. The fact that you now can ride with M9RR tires on your sport Touring machine is a huge advantage.

      I put metzler m9rr's on a honda crossrunner, beautiful V4 engine the sound of it flat out 1/4tn wet . Kick that thing down hard never missed a beat tyres lasted 800 mes

      Me too, and I now prefer Michelin! Road 5 is an amazing fast road st tyre that actually out performs the Power RS imo. The feedback is great and I really don’t need any more grip as I’m starting to wear out my pegs as it is - and that’s on the road!

    I have a set on my Ducati 1299S. Amazing tyre, heat up fast and great lean angles. even with a pillion you get scrape your toe sliders.

    I'm totally biased but I would still argue in favour of the 17" S1000XR and Versys 1000 if you want adventure comfort while still carving the twisties.

    Thank you for highlighting this product! I have experience with M7 RR OEM on a Super Duke R and if these are there (or there abouts) on an ADV bike, I'm (probably) in. Does anyone have wet weather experience with these? I'll be riding on them year-round and though it's not too wet where I live, the big ADV is my go-anywhere, do-anything option. I was considering Road 6s as an alternative before I learned of the M9 RR, but will probably lean toward the Metzelers. And I hope a few more companies follow suit!

    This is really interesting to me. I recently repurposed my KTM 250EXC to track Supermoto (on Metz-M5's) and I am finding that I am using the F700GS less on the trails as I have a lighter, cheap Dual Sport for solo riding. Maybe I put M9's on the 700, pull the rack and take it to the track. Got me thinking Neevsey - thanks.

    Thanks michael i didnt realise the pikes peak had a17 inch front wheel ! Ive asked myself the question why other manufacturers have never offered the same option as i’m sure most of the older guys buy adventure bikes for the riding position and not to take off road

      Kawasaki Versys 1000 and BMW S1000XR. I have a mk1 Versys myself and I love it. Although it doesn't have the shear power the Ducati has obliviously.

      The problem with the Pikes Peak offering a 17” front over a Multistrada is that it costs £5k more. Why the option of a 17” is not available on the standard bike is beyond me. Why have a standard 19” for off road when the vast majority stay on road?

    I was genuinely considering the M9 RR se the front runner for my next set of tyres but won't go with Metzelers again any time soon. Having had two sets, the rears anyway, of Metzeler M5s burn through to the belts after only 4650 km and 4725 km respectively on my KTM 390 Duke - I am neurotic about tire pressures, haven't tracked the bike and ride a pretty even combination of commuting and free-time twisties - i will very likely never run Metzeler tyres again. They gripped fine in the dry but were sketchy in the wet/damp and any time I came across a small amount/patch of dirt, sand or the like on the road. I just can't trust a brand whose tyres don't instill confidence or last even a season worth of riding. The M9 RRs may be better but I'm not spending the money to fine out.

    I’ve got M9 RR’s on my 1290SAS and I love them. The grip is superb. The bike handles fantastic, much more flickable than bridgestone a41 I had before.

      How many miles do you think they will last? What type of riding? I just put pilot road 6 on my 1190 adv s and scraping my off-road pegs now.

      I live in the italian dolomites so I ride a lot of curvey roads..and occassionaly I do a 2000km trip on highways..I have no idea how long they will last, it’s my first pair. But so far so good, 4000km and they look brand new. I like to ride the corners hard and i’m not gentle on the throttle on the straights. The front became very light and playful, in the beginning I almost felt uncomfortable…but now I got used to it I love them. Never want other tyres.

    I had a Yamaha Ténéré 700, it was a great bike, with a peach of an engine. I liked some aspects of the bike, and some aspects I didn't like, the main one being it was just too top-heavy. It spoiled my enjoyment of the bike, you felt like you could drop the thing at any time, and I'm 6' 2"! I went back to a sports bike, and I'm much happier. I'm looking at getting a second bike next year, and the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT sports tourer is looking favourite. As for adventure bikes, why spend all that money on something you're not going to use to its fullest, it doesn't really make any financial sense.

    How long has this taken??! Thank god Metzeler stepped up to the plate on it :-) Staggered its taken so long.. Adventure bike manufacturers should offer 17" front wheel versions of all their bikes as well so we can fit whatever the hell we like, and improve road (only) handling while we are at it too :-)

    Continental were offering road sports tyres for 19" front wheel adventure bikes years ago, with their Road Attack 3 tyre. Probably offering the same option with their Road Attack 4 too!
    I used the RA3 on my 1200GS, and they improved the bike immensely, but were for on road use only.
    There's nothing new in this article, other than Metzeler playing catch-up.

    Bought a Duke 690 with Scorpion trail ll tires fitted. Then swaped them out for the M9rr. The M9rr never budged unlike the Scorpion trail ll. Got through 4 sets. Now have them on my Smt 990. Want to upgrade the bike to somthing with traction control and all the modern electronics. But tire choice and 19" rims has held me back. Had got to the conclusion that the M9rr might be the solution.
    But why dont the manufacturors just admit it. Most of these bikes will never go off road enough to warant the big front wheels.
    Just fit 17" rims please.
    You will sell more bikes!

    I’d love a 180 or 190 section tyre for the rest of the 1250GS just to try and see if it gave a nice lazy turn in and slightly bigger lean angle, I’m no racer but I want to try them to see if they’re better suited to my style 🤷‍♂️

    I would like to see a direct comparison of the Metzeler Sportec to their Tourance Next 2 and the Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2. No one has done a sport tire vs 90/10 tire comparison which would be interesting. I mounted Scorpion Trail 2 (90/10) on the Tuareg recently and have found them to be far better on the road than the OEM Scorpion Rally STR (60/40). I have a Ducati Diavel and an Aprilia Tuareg 660. I noticed on certain road surfaces the Scorpion Trail 2 actually gets better traction than the Diavel gets on the performance tires. So instead of having an intellectual conversation of how sport tires are stickier than ADV tires, how about a real test of a sport type tire vs a 90/10 in real world conditions? Country roads, wet surfaces, roads with a little loose surface material, etc Very few roads are perfectly clean and flat like a track. We all deal with small amounts of sand or debris on roads as well as rain and a little mud or slick oil in the rain. G force readings would be real interesting to see in those conditions as well as when braking.

    Ive been using Battleaxe T31 tyres on my versys for years and i know people who use soft compound tyres on various adventure bikes. Believe it or not sticking none adventure tyres on a bike with good torque makes them handle better than sports bikes.

      Not surprising, even back to back, the S1000XR tips in far faster than the S1000R and handles better side to side, only place where the S1000R wins out is on the side of the tyre at higher lean angles, and even there just by a fraction, nowhere near enough to make up the handling deficit to the XR

      @@AntaresSQ01 i got friends who ride GS the big ones and catch up to people on S1000 bikes, reason is because the S1000, power starts mid range, but adventure bikes are designed to have power from low revs up to near top because of off road and motorway cruising.

      @@flamintasty no the reason adventure bikes arent raced on the TT is due to restrictions involving weight, cc, stopping power and other variables. You remind me of the idiots i pass all the time on my bike "Your bike is rubbish because its not a sports bike", yet weirdly i pass them all the time because my bike is designed for the road not track. TT is kept to track standards the entire area is like a massive race track, however you go into the Yorkshire dales, or mountain passes and weirdly smooth roads turn into lumpy rutted roads that sports bikes dont handle very well on. So just grow up and stop trying to start issues on internet.

      @@flamintasty Yes they handle better than sportbikes but have the aero of a bus, and therefore not a high top speed. GSXR750 has way less power than an S1000XR yet it will do 20mph higher top speed, which is hugely important in the TT, on local twisty roads though? I've yet to see a sportbike catch up...

    interesting vlog, here's a thought, if these Adventure bikes "only" come with a 19in front, and it was previously not possible to get decent grippy tyres in that size, maybe now here's an idea, why don't manufacturers offer a 17in front as an option from new if the bike is never going to used off road... makes sense to me.

      I was thinking that too and I had several possible answers (from manufacturers point of view) to it:
      1) General opinion is that adventure bike is supposed to be able to go offroad - they all claim Dakar heritage and so on. That requires at least 19 inch, but better 21 inch front. So in reviews it would be by general consent said, that "this is not proper adventure bike" thus excluding it from "I want adventure bike able to go offroad" customers mind.
      2) Adventure bikes are build with some geometry in mind. Look at newest V strom - changing the tire size to 21 inch did something to its geometry (as I understand the previews and as is said by people who had some chance to ride it) that made it a different ride. Now look at new Triumph Tiger 1200 - It has 21 Inch in Rally specification, 19 Inch in GT specification and changing it even to 17 Inches (that means 4 Inches between extrems) is changing the whole bike - handlebar position, seating position, suspension, weight distribution, maybe even skelet angles/sizes/lenghts etc. It maybe a diferent bike then, which is no longer made on the same production line thus increasing manufature costs. Multistrada regular and Pike peaks has only 2 Inches between them, not the same thing here. And that leads me to:
      3) Isn´t it easier to make a bike purposefuly build to have 17 Inch tire without "Adventure" in mind? If you want a touring bike without need of going out offroad, you don´t need all the "adventure" stuff, exclude "adventure" specs (height, suspension, skid plate...) and you will have superior onroad bike. Like BMW R line vs BMW GS line? 120 SAR vs Super Duke GT? Same engine, but one is onroad, one is offroad? Why butchering your working Adventure line, to have inferior bike based on foundation of bike meant to go offroad?
      These were the main ideas, I suppose there may be more into it? I would like to hear others opinion.

      In my opinion if you are never going to ride offroad it makes no sense to get an ADV in the first place, get a proper sport touring bike properly designed for the road. It’s like getting an SUV to drive in town, it makes no sense but people still does it. I’ll never get their point.

      @@Lasergun74 Advs are like SUVs - comfortable, no excesive need for piloting skills, high tech, bluetooth, with spare room and maybe it is important it is big and expensive. I understand older and lazier people (as the joke goes, it is based on something though) find this attractive. And like SUVs you dont have to go to terrain, it is not, why you buy them.

    Sports touring tyres are perfectly good enough. 99% of people won't be able to take sports touring to the max as it is so why have a touring bike with half track day tyres. Pointless

      I drove my R1 20 years ago off road it was fine. I bet that that not realy planed traill was more off road than is off road live of most of those "adventure" bikes

    For me , I just don't get why people want to ride 19" wheeled adventure bikes on the road, and never take them off road. It's a bit like all the chelsea tractors in the car world , that well just stay on tarmac.
    Bring back the sports tourers, with 17" wheels !
    Yes there are a few sports tourers still around , but not as many as there used to be.

      The Tracer 9 GT and Ninja 1000SX seem to be the rare exceptions these days. Otherwise it's a bunch load of nakeds, without a fairing !
      The riding position I totally get, I'm too old to want to ride sports bikes, my back and neck can't take the extreme position !
