Now they're up to their necks in debt and the upkeep is going to start hitting hard.

Michael Jordan's house should be turned into a home for veterans who are homeless or something similar for families in need that served our nation. There should be a staff that can help the veterans get online education, a fresh haircut and grooming and then assistance for job placement if able, Just my two cents.
1:40 Mark in the video.... Honest to God, I almost bought a new-build exactly this design in California back in 2003-2004. It even had a huge Mother-in-Law unit built in the back that was a separate structure. The builder wanted $1.3M for it back then.
32K sf mansions that can't sell should be bought by someone who wants to own a building for offices, or a mall. Now that is just ridiculous, and I bet more than half doesn't even get used.
People tend to notice cheap construction more when it’s in larger more expensive houses because they understandably expect better in a house that expensive.

This was one of my favorite (non-car) discussions yet! My wife and I share a common hatred for McMansions, and houses dominated by their garage (your old house excepted), and house "Mullets". My only gripe was throwing in the legacy cobras. I would agree that a lot of replicars are bad (e.g., fiero-based kit cars), but a lot of kit cobras are better than the originals in function, and real cobras are un-attainable or too valuable to drive. My first car was a Datsun 280z back in the early 80s, and I'd love one of those 280z-based Ferrari 250 GTO conversions, especially given the suspension and powertrain upgrades that could be done to probably make it outperform the original. Lastly, I'll bet that in 50 years there will be more 200-plus year old Victorians that survive than McMansions (as a matter of percentage currently existing). McMansions are so much garbage materials and construction methods.
Thank god i live in the most mediocre house in my neighborhood, perhaps someone will buy me out just to get my property which has a million dollar view, just to tear it down and build one of those!🤔😁 Fake hood scoops is the PERFECT analogy👍👍

I live in a McTinsion, A trailer. Help me change that by becoming a subscriber and staying tuned in for the unveiling of the Ravolet. A LS powered Rav4. Thank you and Goodmorning!
That's interesting the term seems regional - on the west coast, we call them McMansions when they're on a tiny lot and the house covers every possible square foot of it. There's a 25 foot street set back, 5 feet on one side, 10 feet on the other and 2 or 3 story cheap mansion on top - it doesn't need gaudy glue ons - just the 'no yard'. In fact some of those will have windows on the narrow lot side where you can look through several houses.... They've started putting terrible color finishes and stone on the fronts - but the entire house is cheap. Like trailer house cheap.
These McMansions represent the American dream for us peasants from the rest of the world. I grew up watching them on TV as a teenager during the 2000s, thinking they were so cool and what would I give to live that life! 😄Ok to be honest a McMansion is not that bad after all, as long as you can afford maintaining it.
Is the Stradman's new house a McMansion since its massive, has an oversized garage, and opulent front facade? Or is it a proper mansion? Trying to understand where people are drawing the lines here.
They are still building McMansions here in FL, but they aren't cheap anymore. They are still just as gross and usually just look like the one five feet away on the next lot.
There was a house in Edgewood Kentucky that was on a market bridge for $8 million. They knocked it down to $6 million and end up selling for just about 3 1/2 million dollars.

Guys, I'm an architect and I couldn't agree with you more. That "Styrofoam siding" is called "exterior insulation and finish system" or EIFS for short. It is a fine material for something like a strip mall that is going to upgrade the exterior every twenty years by stripping it off and putting new EIFS in its place, but it has no business on buildings that are intended to be in use for many decades. Also, I agree that those complex roof configurations are ridiculous. It adds significant cost when reroofing, and when you consider the the main purpose of a roof is to shed water, those complex roofs generally don't do that well, and have many conditions that can result in water infiltration. The other situation that occurs with some national home builders is that they put some high end finishes in the interior, which catches the buyers eye, but cut corners in the structure and building envelope. Believe me, I spent much time investigating building problems in these homes, some of which resulted in a lawsuit by the homeowner against the builders. And finally, as pointed out, utilities and maintaining these homes gets incredibly expensive.
Here in Oklahoma where I live they've abandoned the Mcmansions now they're buying up all the farm land and building McPalace with private concrete air strips. 😮
