I haven’t read The Darkness Within Us yet but I think you should definitely read the Shadows between Us first! We have the pov of Chrystantha’s sister Alessandra who hates her sister and always talks poorly of her (but we actually never see her!), so it’s definitely interesting that we get to read Chrystantha’s side of the story!
