Hey Kevin. We should start a facebook group as well. 😁We could all post our hats and anything hat related . I was in a hat group but surprisingly too much negativity. There's good people on here. Looking forward to the event.✌️
It was your idea, huh? Done! Thanks big J! I Love the way we are all staying connected with my Channel and the Facebook community. My Channel has over 14,400 viewers, but this small FB group is a realistic way to stay close to my customers & always be available at the tap of a button. My goal is to work for one GREAT hat shop and review and promote hats, one at a time. From my home studio. I can also steam hats for folks at home by mail order, and work through a shop. A reputable, shop that has the good lines, but needs a good online salesman and hat steamer.
I ditched my Stetsons for Akubra and love the quality and fit of their hats. And my Cattleman in Fawn with no liner seems to be much cooler then my straws this summer, which I think the Aussies have something there since most wear fur felt all year long.
A few months ago I bought an Akubra Federation IV Deluxe (I gave it an Indy bash, of course) and it quickly became my favorite hat! It's my first fur felt hat and I've blown away by the quality! Great video! Love hearing new insight on hats!
Akubra's rock I reckon. I tried a Style Master as my outdoors/bush hat. The thinner felt did surprisingly well out in the bush, but the constant humidity and light rain meant I had to regularly reshape and dry it out or it got too floppy. It is made for urban fashion but the size and colour (Blue Grass Green) suited me for the bush. I like to try out different ideas and it held up very well. I now use a customised Akubra Riverina. The thicker felt and stiffness makes for an exceptional all season wilderness and work hat. The brim has been trimmed down to Style Master width, making it a good size for close bush and for wearing in a vehicle.
i am liking the look of this STETSON MCCREA, wool and no leather that i can see inside or out. Nice color as well. But i bet its not at all for summer heat
That is a cool one, they took an inexpensive crushable felt and made a super cool Gus style old west hat, yeah, that is not for summer at all. But it’s really cool
Cheers from Australia! It’s great to hear such good comments from Akubra, an Australian icon. I have a few of them, simply excellent. For those looking for a softer felt but still waterproof, have a look to the Traveller and Avalon.
Felt is not good for a hot humid day, wool felt and fur felt are about the same. A good, thick wold western like a Buffalo collection will do great in the rain and it’ll reshape okay too. Any wool felt that’s very stiff will respond to steaming, but not as well as fur felt. The only ones you can’t shape are those softer, crushable wool felts
Another great video. Couple ideas for future videos: hat maintenence like cleaning brushing, etc. What should you do and how often, supplies or gear needed, etc. Also the different crown shapes you can make and how to do it at home.
Are you familiar with Miller hats ? They do custom hats online. Fur felt fedoras are $200. And you can specify all the dimensions. Brim width, crown height, etc.
Me, I like the square look, so no surprise, Stratoliner and Whippets. Love my well made Akubra Stylemaster, but not square enough. Keep going back to the Strat. Anyway. K, sorry to hear about getting laid off. And I’m very disappointed in JJs. Glad your channel will continue. Hands down the most helpful and informative of any hat source online.
You missed one. In the summer I wear my Stetson Stratoliner Milan fedora. It is synthetic straw, and it does not care how much rain gets on it. I just shake it off and it's good to go.
Hey Kevin, fun to watch as always, hopefully you’re doing okay! Just an idea for a hat lecture topic; maybe talk about what hat and cap proportions and styles you’ve seen work for different face and body types? My wife loves me in newsboys while a two inch brim, 4 1/2 in crown fedora I have seems really nice on me, however it’d look comically small on the bigger gents out there. I know you’ve touched on this here and there but a full video could be cool, especially for hat newbies.
Yea, great idea yes!!! Ill get to it. ruclips.net/video/QfegatKLZQw/видео.htmlsi=1Ht5RdGD2kMoxjHy ruclips.net/video/fxvy4nKg4hs/видео.htmlsi=Je5-bUIRQZmvtz4b 2 older videos
I jumped in a swimming pool to save my daughter from drowning while wearing my Selentino Galaxy. Bro. It’s less stiff now but otherwise it survived like nothing ever happened. Brim still flawless. I got caught in the rain for 15 minutes with my Stetson Temple and it’s wave city.
That’s a defective hat. Saw that once or twice back in the 90’s and early 2000’s. That is the biggest No No in hat making. Spraying multiple layers of extra hold hair spray will help a little, get the lint off before u spray let them dry between coats and avoid the sweatband and outer band
I have my Dad’s old Acubra hat. Unfortunately it’s one size too small for me and full of pin holes because he had them all over it. It’ll live in my closet until one of my kids is the right size for it and I’ll let them figure out what to do about the pin holes.
Regarding Akubra sizes. In your experience do they tend to be a bit over sized or a bit under sized? Sizing is always risky when ordering on line. I just found a very good deal on the Stylemaster in a colour I like. I have a small head which can sometimes limit selection. For less than $200 it will be perfect for days when you don't want to risk a Selentino or the Whippet. For the kind of light unending rain where I live, I find the newsboy caps are perfect. The Harris Tweed is almost indestructible.
Akubra hats can be rounded or more elliptical depending of the type of crown. Rounded or teardrop like Cattleman, Territory, Stylemaster are true to size while centre crease like Coober Pedy, Riverina, Bronco and most western styles needs to be one centimetre more to fit rounded heads. Bear up in mind that the leather sweatband shrinks a bit so a loosen brand new hat is recommended.

Great idea! Maybe I should start a hats and guitars group, and we can show off our H & G’s!😮yes!
Good idea!!!
That’s a great idea!

Done! Thanks big J!

How do I not have an Akubra yet? The Stylemaster, Cattleman, and Balmoral just moved to the top of my wish list- such beautiful, functional hats.
They have a very nice finish to their felt, nice colors..the trim, the sweatband, everything is done well
I love my Akubra hats. Wish more hat store in the States would sell them.
Always enjoy your tutorials. You're a great advocate for the stylish, personalized statement a good hat can make. So good to see the tradition lives.
Thanks so much!
Akubra Campdraft is their version of the Stetson Open Road. Great hat for all conditions including a bit of rain.
Yes, I have one in Bluegrass. Although I think I gave it to Townsend. I have to stop doing that. I give all my hats away
I ditched my Stetsons for Akubra and love the quality and fit of their hats.
And my Cattleman in Fawn with no liner seems to be much cooler then my straws this summer, which I think the Aussies have something there since most wear fur felt all year long.
True..good point😊
I love my Akubra Leisure Time when I am in the woods for bushcraft and survival training! 👌🤠
Good premier Kevin! Glad I was watching.
Always glad when you’re lurking around in the shadows😂.. it’s not a party until Krazmokramer shows up!

Good taste! Wish I had those, great choices
how does a 100% wool stetson hat do in the rain? Cab wool be shaped like the others? I am guessing a wool hat on a hot humid day would be pretty rough

Send one I’ve done a few dozen times, but the first one..yes! Great idea
Valuable info in this vid. Borsalino and Roche run small ! That could save a guy a hassle of ordering the wrong size. Thanks Kevin 👍🏻
Just about an entire size..yes, if you already wear them, you know.. but otherwise, yes.
I have 2 Akubra traveller hats. LOVE THEM! Will be getting a new leisure time hat soon. I also have a medium quality Panama hat.
Akubra Baby!😉
Indeed. The best
Are you familiar with Miller hats ? They do custom hats online. Fur felt fedoras are $200. And you can specify all the dimensions. Brim width, crown height, etc.
That’s pretty reasonable, assuming the finished product is really nice. That’s a good deal. I’ll look them up! Thank you
Great information!... Sometime in the future I may get an Akubra.
You should they’re good all weather felts
just bought Akubra hat-told them you sold me!
Thank you!!
Atwood makes a very good palm leaf western /cowboy hats that do great in the rain

What about the buffalo collection Stetson?
Love this info on this video. Thanks Kevin
I’ll get way deeper into steaming now, there’s so much I haven’t gotten to because I didn’t have time. I’m glad you liked it,thanks!
I have a vintage Dobbs in that slate style master color!
My outback trading co.oilskin hat has been awesome fir rainy days
You missed one. In the summer I wear my Stetson Stratoliner Milan fedora. It is synthetic straw, and it does not care how much rain gets on it. I just shake it off and it's good to go.
Yeah, the hemp is ok in the rain. It’ll survive ok

My akubra style master has been rained on a few times. No problems. 👍😎
Looked spotless the next day, right? They last forever
@@KTGHATS yes absolutely fine. As you always say..... Just make sure the shape and brim is all good and then let it dry upside down or hanging. 👍
Ok...i think the next hat on my list is gonna hafta be an Akubra now. I love my Premier Staratoliner so maybe ill get something kinda like that...🤔
They make the Campdraft which is like an open crown open road style
Love this one Kevin! keep 'em coming!!!!
I think it might be good to do a video on outdoor sport hats like Boonies and maybe some ball caps 🧢.
👍☮️🌞💙
Great idea, yeah.. buckets and Tilleys etc yeah..good one
Oh man - this topic is great.
Thank you Thomas, I always your help and friendship. You’re a great guy, thanks 😊

Wow. Good story, they can always be stiffened up, most of the time, just a steaming alone will reactivate the old stiffener in the hat
I have an Akubra Snowy River, but I hate it that the crown on Akubra hats very low, it's almost comical.
Akubra Campdraft! BOOM!
my 4 X resistol black big wells hat would bleed black dye when i was getting rained on
That’s a defective hat. Saw that once or twice back in the 90’s and early 2000’s. That is the biggest No No in hat making.

Akubra Snowy River for $185! Are you kidding me? I need to get one of these.
They were that price for a long, long time..for 20 years or so..until the pandemic hit
My Stetson Drifter is my umbrella.

Akubra are sized in centimetres. Go up if you are right on the measured size.

Yeah, I'm Canadian and centimetres is normal for me. Thanks for the reply@@michaelcroft813
Thank you for the info, it's appreciated.@@sjazzp
They run fairly true to size, and they are great for rain and snow, Stetson runs very erratically, some run large and other tru to size
Another very informative vid by the hat Don!
Thanks I’m trying to improve it every time
@@KTGHATS Doing a great job.👍🏽
Akubra is bombproof in the PNW rain!
It is really rugged felt, among the best, longest lasting hats you can buy
For me, my hat is a Stetson Carson, silverbelly with a cattleman crease. I don't wear it in the rain however.
Those are the BEST! I’m
Over the old Carson with the braided leather band? You have great taste
@@KTGHATS thanks Kev!

I love all your videos!
