I have not heard a more creative and original sound in Kpop than Shalala, it's such an intricate, layered, weird and addictive sound (as well as the lyrics and concept). I love this song and the whole album, and the only one who could pull this off and make it so amazing is Lee Taeyong!!!! (no hate to other kpop songs or groups guys, it's just my honest opinion from hearing it, and I think that's why it's getting some hate from certain people...like most NCT songs, it's very different from other groups' concepts, and so is their sound)
You might not be American (?) but these are hip hop samples “Fire it Up” by Busta Rhymes, “Drop It Like its Hot” “Snoop Dogg, “Teach Me How to Dougie”(on the bridge)….etc. Definitely new as a sound coming from KPop but totally on brand for a rapper like Taeyong. He’s paying homage in this song and personally I love it.
