I love how enthusiastic he is, might be one of the first times I’ve had fun while learning a new concept
I remember learning this skill (decimal to binary and vice versa) on day one of my computer science class in college. Professor explained it a lot like you did, without the fun factor. I had struggled to learn this on my own,. reading about it in programming books. This was long before RUclips. Sometimes it just takes watching someone do it for the lightbulb to click.
What’s funny is I had someone who’s CCNP certified try to explain which came first, the IP address, or the subnet mask, and he couldn’t explain it as well as you just did and left me totally confused. You can’t build a picture in your head if you don’t understand how things work. Thanks for the explanation.

Well, since Im a trainee as an It-specialist, i've already learned how to convert binary to decimal and decimal to binary.... but somehow, i still watched the full video, just because you totally hooked me with your enthuisiastic presence.... keep dooing this shit... im loving it!

we used the CCNA training from Cisco Network Academy when i did my Net+ and A+ class in tech, and you just managed to completely simplify the process of subnetting to a point it doesnt give me a raging migrane, i think i'm going to forward this to some former classmates of mine as well, thanks for simplifying it to a point it makes sense instead of just a general worksheet of "here is a number, make number do thing"
I’m doing a Cisco networking course and it’s very good at explaining info, and also repeating it enough to sink in throughout the course. Weird that you had a bad experience but there’s a reason why everyone copies Cisco
i wouldn't necessarily call it a "bad experience" more of a frustrating one, we weren't given the full course info, just a worksheet that was from the networking academy and a copy of the netware/training software and basicly given a Crash Course in subnetting, with heavy emphasis on "Crash Course" lol @@cassanateli

When I was taught subnetting was in an old NT4 admin MCP networking class. Instructure told us "You'll get this on Wednesday" and proceeded to explain subnet masking. Explained it again on Tuesday, and lo and behold, on wednesday, a LOT of lights went on. :)

To understand binary more you can think of it like this. In decimal, you take all the numbers you have and you go: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and then there's no sign for ten so you just add 1 and go from the start 10 11 12 13 14 ... 19 and there, no more numbers so you make the number on the left bigger by 1 and start from zero. 20. In binary, it's the same, you go 0, 1 and there's no sign for two so you add 1 to the left and go from the start 10 you go 11 and there are no more numbers left so you add 1 to the left, there are also no other numbers so you add 1 and you have 100 and then you go 101 110 111, 1001 and so on

Man, this has been a weird day, lol. I'm currently studying for my Network+ Certification, My tutor is brilliant, but somehow the way he explains Subnetting, whilst it does make sense to me, I still found that I had some trouble with it. Then, having studied for about an hour and a half, I decided to take a break, flipped onto RUclips and this video showed up. Something about the way you explain the process of translating between Decimal to Binary and back again, somehow, made it all click into place. Thank you Chuck for all of your videos, You're awesome and I really hope to meet you one day during the course of my career and have a coffee :D

However, if books were all that was needed to learn, then we could close down all of the elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, colleges/universities, vocational schools, technical schools, etc. all around the world and just provide the learners with books. We would save a considerable amount of money by not having to pay for expensive buildings, utilities for these buildings, and teachers/professors.
However, many people benefit from having an expert explain a topic.

There is a concept in education today known as the flipped classroom. This is where the teacher or professor records their lectures, the students watch these lectures at home, and then work on practice problems or labs while in class. That is, the students learn the information from watching a video.
I am not arguing that learning from books is bad. However, learning from books has its advantages and disadvantages, and learning from videos also has its advantages and disadvantages.

I have not done subnetting in years... I came 1st in my state for computer internetworking back in 2018 and subnetting was involved and I was actually very good at it and could do it in my head quite easily. Now I am looking at that, trying to remember things about it. I am gonna watch your video, the title seduced my way in here. You should cover cable creation, that is also something I haven't done in years tbh. I miss creating straight-through, cross-over, and console cables for the labs we had to do... Those were the good ole days... now I am trying to afford food for the week while not running out of gas for work.

You can also covert decimal to binary by dividing by 2. Write down your number, such as 23 and divide by 2. That gives you 11 remainder 1. The remainders are important. Write the remainder down, then repeat. 11 divided by 2 is 5 remainder 1. 5 divided by 2 is 2 remainder 1. 2 divided by 2 is 1 remainder 0. And finally 1 divided by 2 is 0 remainder 1. Now you’ve reached 0, write down all the remainders in reverse order and you get 10111, which is binary for 23.
