Berman honored Gene and stayed true to his vision. Kurtzman did Trek the way he wanted to. We need people who love and understand Trek to work on Trek.
@trekgate3005 20 years ago, you'd have thought Berman was the literal devil by the way fans spoke of him. Now he's elevated to sainthood? Hilarious. Kurtzman will be no different. 20 years from now, he'll be beloved, and whoever is running the show will be hated.
@@HotRod84 Not me. Always had a fondness for TNG-ENT and thought most of it was great before the Paramount+ era. I get your point though. Still believe that classic era and TOS are way better than what we got now.
@@HotRod84- unlikely. There's very very little that has been well received by the majority of the fans since Kurtzman took over. Personally... Nu movies - first one was watchable (thanks mostly to Chris Pine) but the damage done to the original timeline with the destruction of Romulus was nonsense. The rest of the movie is just a generic sci fi actioner. The sequels just terrible. Discovery - Awful. Burnham is the most important character in the history of Trek and the universe ever - riiiiight!!. Stopped watching when they suggested that she was the reason Spock reached out to Kirk and McCoy at the end of season 2 when they turned her into Space Jesus. Strange New Worlds - meh. Not a fan of the "reimagining" of the crew, the general tone of the way they interact, and nonsense like musical episodes. It's not bloody Buffy! Lower Decks - I actually like this one for what it is to be fair. Fun and the Easter eggs/nods are generally well done. Prodigy - the best Trek since Enterprise. Despite being supposedly a kids show it's actually more a direct sequel to Voyager and all the better for it. Doesn't need a season 3 as they wrapped it up well (except the tie in into the start of Picard S1), but I'd welcome it. Picard - awful rubbish for the first two seasons. Redeemed in part for a great third season that served far more like a TNG send off than the mediocre Nemesis. The only negative for me was the Enterprise-G. Not a fan of the design or the events leading to the commissioning. Better to leave the ship as it was or maybe renamed as a tribute to her Captain. I would have rather seen a refitted Galaxy-X design that tied into the potential future events of All Good Things under the command of a newly promoted Admiral Riker, but hey! Section 31 movie - hard pass! Academy - likewise! If you want 21st century Californians in Starfleet uniforms, there's Strange New Worlds for that. Sitcom idea - no, just no! For the most part, The Orville does Trek better than Star Trek these days (especially its third season).
It still boggles my mind that Kurtzman got such an incredible contract. Essentially making him king of Star Trek until HE wants to stop. He must have paid off the Paramount lawyers to approve such a contract. Imagine you own something valuable, you handed it to some guy for an indefinite period of time, he can do whatever he wants with it, even take partial ownership, and agree to pay him no matter how bad his product is!
There is the idea that when Les Moonves was forced out as CEO he left Kurtzman as a dirty bomb. I'd say it worked. Brought down CBS All Access and left Paramount in ruins.
He’s extremely well connected, wife and father-in-law. Look at all the other people who were writing partners or producing partners, they have always been the scape-goat but Alex gets to stay. There is more to this. I see him as a parasite, and I say this as a gay man from a minority background, I love diversity and representation… but SecretHideOut have not understood or cared to understand why we loved Star Trek. I hope Starfleet Academy tanks and their contract won’t be renewed again a third time.
My wish is to have a new movie and have it start with Spock getting ready to go through the wormhole with the red matter and the Enterprise snaps a tractor beam on his ship and they say "No Ambassador Spock, that timeline cannot happen". We then begin with REAL Star Trek with no different timelines or universes (except the occasional foray into the mirror universe) and all of the JJ Abrams and Kurtzman Trek was all just a bad dream.
That would work for me I am 67 . Have LOST interest in New star track .And what the Hell star wars to . I hope the POWERS to be can see A future that is knot so DAM POLITICAL an THEY might be able to make money at it again. 😊
If Skydance makes another contract with Kurtzman... They deserve what they get. How can you see what the last 10 years have been and want to get in bed with that man?
Kurtzman and Abrams are a plague on Star Trek. Things after Enterprise are anywhere from bad to an abomination. I don't want to see anything that Secret Hideout is doing. I want a show post Voyager, in the real timeline, looking at the galaxy in the aftermath of Voyagers return and the Dominion war.
I still think they should do a series with the "Mirror Universe" starting off from "First Contact" (or actually "First Capture"). They should start it from the events as told in ST: Enterprise "In a Mirror, Darkly". I would love to see how the Terran Empire developed. Just as long as it isn't Kurtzman.
If they do Legacy without Terry Matalas or Ronald Moore it is doomed. Kurtzman will simply defile it as he has done with everything associated with Trek.
Hopefully we get something decent now. Disregard anything post Enterprise, including the JJ Abrams movies. Go into the 25th century, do what TNG did, make something new, in the style of the old
I don't always agree with everything you say, but I feel that it's important for me to tell you that I agree with 99.9999999999999999% of what you said in this video. Good job... and thanks for not over lighting yourself. Looks much better.
Wipe the slate clean of everything that happened since 2005. Bring the cast of Enterprise back for a capstone/reunion movie. Use that as a vehicle to introduce a new crew and ship (It doesn't need to be in that early era.. just some sort of crossover event with a new future crew. let's not act like time travel hasn't already been done 8 billion times already.) Yeah.. I know they won't do it. I'm just saying that is the level of reform that it would take to make me happy again. Silver lining on the dark poisonous Kurtzman cloud of death is we have Orville S4 confirmed. Literally the only space exploration show I'm looking forward to.
The rights are somewhat easier to explain if you think of it like this: Strange New Worlds is a child, Secret Hideout and Paramount are the parents. Both parents have rights to the child and have a say on what happens with that child.
An apt analogy would be the situation with the 70's animated Star Trek, and why it was "declared non-canon" for a time. Paramount didn't produce it, Filmation did, and anything unique to TAS would've necessitated Paramount paying Filmation for its use. Until that rights issue was resolved, shortly after Roddenberry's death, TAS could not be referred to, but once Paramount owned TAS, the references starting cropping up, and the DVD set was released on CBS Home Video, not under the Filmation banner, as other Filmation shows have done. Ultimately, this is likely how the current situation will be resolved. What Paramount will want to continue, say, Lower Decks or Prodigy, they'll buy from Secret Hideout, whereas what the stuff they'd just as soon see dead and gone, they'll just let go.
Example: JAG was a TV series. NCIS, written by Bellasario, was an Episode and became a series. Both Producers jointly own NCIS. Neither can produce the series without permission from the other.
The first thing Skydance should do once they're in power is to just cancel all the Kurtzman Trek shows and end Paramount's association with Secret Hideout and Akex Kurtzman.
Lower Decks isn't all that bad. It respects Star Trek and treats it with humor and originality. Different people are at work here than in the other series.🖖😀
Creative ownership really isn't that complicated to understand it's just how you deal with royalties when something you created goes beyond your original creation. It's why old school creators get practically nothing when their creations get adapted to movies now because back then they underestimated the long term aspects of what they created.
It creates grey areas that are a little complicated when you have something like Star Trek from a sheer size of the franchise point of view. Also complex if you want to remove secret hideout but still do a show they produced
Kurtzman will spend this time kicking off as many projects as he can, while he can, to lock in that money. I hope Legacy is kept for Treks post Kurtzman era.
I’d would love too see 7 of 9 get here own tv show. Commanding the new Enterprise. Maybe with Picard making guess appearances now and then along with other crew from both TNG/Voyager and DS9. Harry Kim making appearance along with Janeway at some point. Yeah I also wish we get Enterprise movie. But we wouldn’t getting Trip since he died at end of season of Enterprise. Unless they could some how bring him back. Insert Q here would be due-able lol. Just hope they turn Star Trek back around. Or hope Seth would buy Star Trek IP, but that would never happen and what would happen to the Orville?
Business Insider reports it took one day (a single day) for Larry Ellison the owner of Oracle and the new Paramount owner to make more than enough money from Oracle stock due to AI boom to cover the cost of buying Paramount and still have many millions left from the single days increase in wealth.
I think the insider mixed up oracle revenue and Larry actual wealth. Also how much Larry is worth and how much money he actually has in the bank are different.
A lot of the drama that occurred on RUclips with the fan made Star Trek shows came out of Alex. Alex actually told the guys who were doing the Axinar show that they wish they had done their show. Which begs the question why did they sue them and why not just contract them and make it official? Same with a lot of the RUclips channels that did Star Trek fan movies they could just slap a subtitle saying fan films and made it available on Paramount It would’ve saved a lot of money on production and people would understand. These are fan films and not officially canon and therefore not to mess around with people. then the money starts rolling in and building momentum. They could then start stepping out crazy actual productions. But it would give them enough time to think about what they’re doing first something I think they’re missing.
Skydance gave us NuTrek, so I’m not sure how excited I am about them taking the reins again. I enjoyed Star Trek 2009 for what it was - a big budget fun alternate what-if type thing. I don’t think it disrespects the lore or history in any terribly unforgivable way. And I thought the casting was brilliant (opinions vary on JJ as a storyteller, but he has always had a remarkable knack for casting all of his projects). But Into Darkness was an unforgivable abomination. Yet, it made tons of money and that’s what Hollywood rewards so here we are. While on one hand I’m grateful that Disco opened the door for more Trek on TV again, on the other hand I just could never get into it. It gets the tone all wrong and committed countless sins against the past. Don’t even get me started on everything wrong about Section 31. One thing I think we as fans/consumers have to realize is that as our real world filmmaking technology improves, sci-fi and future-set shows/films are going to look more and more visually disconnected from shows made 50 years ago. I can get past that. It’s a business. Both creatives and consumers want/expect a top quality looking project (I do think SNW does a fairly good job of finding some visual connections to TOS). But the creatives/producers MUST get the tone and spirit right. When they get that right, there is room for shifts in genre - Lower Decks being the prime example, Prodigy as well, and even the SNW musical IMO. But none of those are Kurtzman led. Because he doesn’t understand the spirit. He still thinks Into Darkness is the high mark. So it’s all narcissistic mutineers, and mirror universe, and apocalyptic darkness and despair and on and on. I’m not convinced that Skydance, who was a part of that, will right the ship.
JJ Trek was already in place before Skydance became co-finacers on a number of Paramount's movies and shows. Skydance is not to blame for the current state of *_Trek._*
People will argue despite Lower Decks, Prodigy & Strange New Worlds NOT being led by Kurtzman, they're still productions produced by him & his company.
@@vegeta50024 True, but how many *_Trek_* films have there been since then? Besides, the JJ Trek films, while flawed, aren't quite the abominations that Kurtzman Trek is.
@@vegeta50024 I like Strange New Worlds and Prodigy for what they are, while not perfect, I find them to be the closest to what Trek used to be. To me, they're like the JJ films, not canon and set in an alternate reality. Skydance just needs to throw the baby out with the bath water.
The cost for Larry Ellison buying Paramount is about 3.33% of his wealth so Paramount is a minor purchase. In percentage terms for an average person it could be equivalent of someone using 3 days of salary for a new computer, new furniture or short holiday for some people.
Yes more confident but I still have to have that wait and see attitude. Kurtzman is like that festering boil that won't go away regardless to any sale. Sorry I just feel that way! 😢
Discovery’s first season, and the decision to skip to the 32nd century showed Kurtzman didn’t listen to any of the fanbase’s wishes or hopes for the last 20 years. Picard’s plot and story was a flub until diehard fan Terry Matalas stepped in, for season 3. I do hope one day the 32nd century will be retconned into a separate timeline, so Trek can continue forwards in the 25th century with Legacy.
When you said the timelines/stories are very confusing, I thought, “no it ain’t.” You followed with “except hardcore fans.” I thought, “oh, yeah. Makes sense.” 😅😅😅
If you ask me, it seems like a VERY complicated mess of things at the moment, based on what you say. I think the biggest issue I'm having at the moment is how things are going to proceed with a game like Star Trek Online that is licensed by Paramount. Star Trek Online has gotten A LOT of Kurtzman produced ships and other ideas that have come out from the shows ever since Discovery FIRST came out. It honestly sounds to me like going forward, Paramount will NOT be able to let STO use those elements that supposedly Secret Hideout owns the rights to, assuming I have things right. Of course, this means that such projects such as the Roddenberry Archive putting everything from the original series to the the most recent live action series (the bridges in particular) might also be a bit problematic, since a lot of these are ALSO owned in part by Secret Hideout.
@@trparky It's still a matter of what exactly the criteria is for that. I've seen people say a real fan is someone who likes TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT & the 10 movies. If they like anything after that, then they don't count as a REAL Star Trek fan, where REAL Star Trek are those shows above. Like for example, I grew up watching & enjoying TNG & Voyager, but I also enjoy a lot of Kurtzman Trek, so under the definition I put forth, I wouldn't count as a REAL fan, even though I practically grew up with Star Trek when there was nothing else on the horizon.
A little perspective: Rick Berman stayed with Star Trek after Viacom acquired Paramount in 1994. He wasn't listed until after "Star Trek: Nemesis" bombed in 2002. Any news of Alex Kurtzman being shown the door is premature (and sorely exaggerated). As long as he keeps making money for the company, Skydance will in all likelihood have him stay put.
Dead is dead. Gimme more Orville and let me forget Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who ... etc. I will never understand how this all happened. It's like me taking over the TWILIGHT franchise and make it a ... lawyer show or something. I hate TWILIGHT and I know nothing about legal drama. Which makes me the PERFECT showrunner apparently. Haven't even really seen the damn movies or read the books. Damn, I will rule this expanded TWILIGHT universe so hard. I have two spin offs already in mind. One is about ... uhm ... cops. In Miami. And the other is a prequel series of all those characters whose names I can't be arsed to even look up now. Give me money! NOW!
I’m over the moon to hear that Secret Hideout will be out. I feel that they tried to rebrand Star Trek but it just never quite felt like Star Trek to me….until Season 3 of Picard. There’s a reason why that single season did better than all of the new Trek series. Alex K.’s versions always felt like a bad sequel, trying to take the old and make it new and then turn the narrative. Terry Mátalas took the old, and gave a much needed HD upgrade and brought it into the future. Thereby revitalizing what we only thought would live on in a grainy old standard definition world. I hope they bring Terry Mátalas back.
That's exactly what it is to Kurtzman, nothing more than a paycheck. He has no love for anything Star Trek, that's why all of his stuff is absolute shit.
There are some that say Kurtzman's contract runs until 2026, as it was extended back in 2021. It should technically run to mid to end of 2026. Based on what we know, this is what I can foresee happening: August 2024: Starfleet Academy enters production, 10 episodes would be done around mid January 2025. 2025 would be the production year for Strange New Worlds Season 4 & that Star Trek live action comedy show, with Strange New Worls likely in the latter half of 2025. New seasons could be announced sometime before this, IF Skydance greenlights tthem. For premieres, we don't have anything solid, but it's possible they'll hold some announcements for Star Trek day which is a little more than a week. Section 31 might be held until early 2025 and Season 3 of Strange New Worlds enters after.
My question why did Paramount make deal where they do not fully own the Star Trek Secret Hideout produces? It makes no sense. Star Trek is one of the most recognizable IPs in the world for that reason alone cutting a shared ownership deal is just plain stupid. How did this happen?
Likely, the deal happened back when Les Moonves was STILL in charge of CBS. Keep in mind, the guy NEVER liked Star Trek & only saw it as a potential money ticket to propping up Paramount+ back when it was just CBS all access.
It happens all the time. Paramount still own star trek 109% and secret hideout cannot do anything without paramount with trek. But.. anything original secret hideout then create they also have rights over.
@@scitrek still doesn’t make sense for Paramount to make this deal. They do not have full control over their IP. It works out for SH obviously. Now Paramount is in a situation where SH has produced 80% crap Star Trek yet to use the good 20% Paramount has to work with the same production company that made them the 80% crap in the first place.
I think Star Trek is dead. I'm middle-aged, and I want a continuation of what went before...However, the kids don't care or know about Star Trek in my opinion.
Lower Deck and Strange New World keeping that dream alive. But they need longer seasons for Strange New World. Without long episodic series runs we can't have the secondary crews flourish. Examples like Barkley from ST:TNG.
@@turnsupgaming5949 how can you possibly love what they've done to Spock? How? He's a moron. He's stupid as rocks. He's emotionally unstable and the only thing that matters to him are women. It's ridiculous that they've made his entire story in SNW be a love triangle. It's like watching a Harlequin romance novel. Read one and you will see what I mean. The idea that this is THE younger version of Spock shows not only do the mostly women writers not understand the character but neither do the new fans. Neither does Kurtzman nor Goldsman.
I'd be up for cancelling all current trek, ignoring it completely and continuing on from the TNG DS9 VOY era, maybe set 50 years beyond them which could allow a couple of guest stars or even a seperate anthology series highlighting older characters
Great presentation thank you for all the important info. I do feel a little better but we need to get JJ Abrams and secret hideout away from Star Trek once and for all torn because I do like strange new worlds I like lower decks and I season three of Picard, although I saw a RUclips video yesterday where she explains the end of Picard is all ruined because, all the people who turn into Borg still have memories they were all the ships killing their relatives. How are they gonna trust Jack crusher enterprise G ships counselor because he has residual Borg powers What a good friend Q , memories of their action when they were Borg like a big MIB memory wipe that would fix it and prodigy is doing so much better the second season if you haven’t seen it it’s excellent. It’s like the original animated series part two. just set in the time of TNG, which is good lower decks is good but it’s a little bit too funny for me I like Star Trek just animated. Thanks for the fun until next time. Oh by the way, I love the info about Stargate as well and everything else you bring just shows like Orville science fiction fiction is just that good if I had the money, I’d be a patron. That’s all for now.
For Star Trek to reset, all current productions need to stop. With Kurtzman & Secret Hideout kicked out the door, and never allowed to return. Take a year or two out, and give us a series in the original canon timeline post Nemesis, no more "Kelvin" or "Prime" ever again.
so gabriel bell arrives today in san francisco, sanctuary district A. and that's the day the original gabriel bell dies, but the replacement will live until september 3rd. your opinion on that? ;-)
It begs the question of which of Gene's visions do you want to see return? TOS vision or the movies through the TNG he was involved in? Gene reportedly hated much of what the movies did and would have likely hated how DS9 progressed.
@@manic5378 I grew up with TNG and didn't have cable TV so was only able to watch episodes sporadically when visiting people that was fortunately enough to have cable TV. Anyway wasn't before around 2013 that I and my mom decided to watch everything of Star Trek from a chronological order it was made up to Enterprise and all the movies in between them as we did go. It is something I highly recommend for anyone new to Star Trek. For me TOS did take some episodes to grow on me, if it wasn't for Spock and McCoy I don't think we would have continued watching. Anyway the movie where it transitioned from TOS to TNG was so impact full on me as viewer, like it was really as a next generation of ship design and crew etc. It is then you start to realize *how* impressive _USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D)_ was. For me the TNG was the peak of the whole Star Trek franchise as things slowly got watered down from Gene Roddenberry's vision. And to answer you question I can't say as I did not know him personally but if I had to take a wild guess I think he would have liked Enterprise as the point of the Star Trek was and is all about trekking into the unknown in space. On a side note, I believe DS9 was a rip off of Babylon 5 series so there is where I think were Gene might have objected against DS9, also Klingons in DS9 was made to look weak for which they really was not. A human would not have stand a chance in a hand-to-hand combat against a Klingon for instance.
Feeling more confident, but expecting to be disappointed because I have a horrible feeling that Kurtzman will fill next year with more shite under the Star Trek banner and burn down what remains of the franchise!
I am almost certain they will try to stuff every idea under the sun into whatever airtime they have left, so that they can try to sue Sundance or collect royalties if Skydance were to approach the IP again after Secret Hideout is let go
one owns all the star trek rights to the franchise . the other own the ideas for strange new worlds and all ideas that are not covered under the star trek franchise
Star Trek is lucky in that everything since 2009 can simply be called Kelvin Timeline and wished into the corn field. Then move on like it never happened.
@@MagnanimousEntropy Deleting it from canon is more possible than deleting it from existence. There's no way to delete anything from existence permanently, especially as people WILL remember. You could kill off everyone that would have memories but that means committing mass genocide...
Thanks for the update. So we are going in period of incertitude for trek. I consider current series dead. No reasonable actor will want to invest time shows with that much risk of cancellation. Hopefully the new trek spin off will happen sooner than later. But for now this is a 😢sad time for trek!
You forget that it's possible that Starfleet Academy could be gone after one season & all the people signed on knowning that COULD be the case, so they already know what they're in for.
@@vegeta50024 you are probably right. But one season or mini series is not the 7 years of TNG, DS9 or even crappy voyager. Honestly if that's the case the fanbase is going to move on to other franchises. As for actors they going to want some garrantee of employment but trek only has trek it's not like they could get gig at loard of the ring for exemple if the trek is not pick up. Unless the new hires desperate bum actors. Anyway you're on the ball my friend!
@@mcboot For the record, I'm one of the people that enjoyed the 7 years of Star Trek: Voyager. I don't know if there's going to be any scifi series produced these days that will ever be the same season length that most series usted to be comprised of.
@@vegeta50024 good happy you enjoyed the show. I'm all about diversity. The point is all the complaining the us the fanbase have done got to this point. Can you imagine 7 years x 20 episodes and how improved discovery could have been. We don't give time for shows to mature. I did enjoy some voyager for example the omega molecule saga was. Do I think it should have been cancelled NO way. What I read on social media I don't consider it as critic it's more like hate. When I hear guys that can't relate with Burnham they must have forgotten all the negative comments about Janeway back in the day. All that to say yes voyager has my respect even if DS9 was my favorite.
Star Trek is one of several great sci-fi franchises, like Star Wars, Dr. Who, Marvel and LOTR, that have been taken over and corrupted by woke forces of societal decomposition. Don't let Star Gate be next. NO REMAKE!
Kurtzman and JJ are curses I want to see out of Star Trek. We need to starve those gus, give about 5 years of rest to the franchase and start again... but now ignoring everything done since Enterprise.
I’m 47 years old I’ve been watching Star Trek since I was five and I started with the original series and reruns in the early 80s as a visually imp parakeet live in Cleveland, Ohio. The next generation, the space nine in Voyager were my Star Trek. I love the Birman error of things. However, Kurtzman just doesn’t get Star Trek and the writing is shitty. They don’t follow canon at all. They just don’t care now as far as lower decks, strange, new worlds, prodigy in season three of Picard I love all of it disco not so much it was all over the place. The two seasons were poorly written and I just didn’t like them very well. I think they should give all the Star Trek over to Terry Metis because he knows what he’s doing and everyone loved what he did in season three of Picard Goldman and Alex Kurtzman were not involved at all and that might’ve been a good thing. I do have to give it up to Kea Guzman and Henry Alonso Myers for creating strange new worlds, I can’t wait to see what season three has for us. However, Kurtzman needs to go. He wants to make movies anyway I want to see the 25th century not the 32nd century so I don’t know if I’m gonna watch Starfleet Academy or not.
Kurtzman has managed to create successful t.v, something that Paramount has craved. and he managed a fair amount of fan-service as part of that. but any mis-steps or tonal variants are nowhere as egregious as the Star Wars prequels or sequels (though Andor, Rogue One, and Mandalorian have been good. Liked the Obi-Wan show, too). If anything, taking Discovery into the far future and the development of Strange New Worlds have been a huge validation of Kurtzman's vision. I do not get the level of hate some people are directing towards him. okay- Picard was actually "meh" but it's because they tried so hard to justify Brent Spiner's characters. actually weakened the story. Romulan stuff great. needing android and Borg closure...? meh. at least 7of9 was there... But the Lower Decks/Strange New Worlds crossover was both so meta, yet respectful, and only possible under Kurtzman. I say examine just why you're so hate filled- this guy is pulling off stuff few could. He's not Zac Snyder, he's not Kathleen Kennedy... he actually gets what makes Star Trek tick.
St4 St legacy- f it bring back kirk Print money. Seriously. Get real talent to wite kirk a dope project. Picards kid and raffi sitting on each side of 7. So can kirk however that would hapoen. Have him meme for sure. Full shatner. But hella chill. And science officer. Hell give me 1 star wars project and i can print money.
4:48// 'that star trek show' like that 70s show. could be an interesting show if it was about 1. living in 1966-69 while the OSeries was on the colour tv. 2. the story revolves around Kids watching the show and falling in love with science, with tech gadgets and the names of some of the kids would be names of real people that became important business/science guys (that were inspired by the OSeries). for example. yrs ago william S did a video of interviews, 'the captains'. that video was partly sponsored by the owner of a company. i do not remember the guy's name, but william said 'when i met the man he told me i inspired him to achieve (where he landed today)'. maybe one of the Bombardier owners. but my Point is like a few usa shows that use Voice over and film 'back in tha day' scenes, there has been an audience for this type of programming. fred savage used to star in a vehicle like this. i forget that shows' name, but Chris rock did a show too. he did the voice over and the show was about when he was a kid. // there could be a Star trek show like that// no space, just a TV set with a few scenes from the OS being seen by the real audience. // the show would be about how a kid, a trekkie, got thru life, school, the anti nam news updates interrupting the latest episode. and as the show goes into cancellation, then a cartoon, then movies, this S T show would continue on. for example. season 1 (10 to more eps, depending on the streamer/tv network, per season), would reflect with the first season and how the Kids (stars of this show) react to the eps. and how they act out during recess, during after homework is done. remember, these kids become CEOs of some of the most important businesses (decades later). season 2, same with the Kids involved in the mail in campaign to save the show. how kids will stand up to the establishment. season 3, same with the dealing with a change of night when the show is shown, do the kids have to fight over being able to watch their show in the new timeslot? and the pending loss of the show. season 4 is about 'life without star trek - but runs into the time of when the cartoons r aired. conventions started. DUNE part 1 by D V is quite different than the book and the first 1984 version. with the fetus sister remaining inside the mother's womb, whereas 1984's had the little girl walking around, as does the text. so changes can be done to make the script time line work as seasons come, if the show stays on air, there be the talks of new series, and the eventual 1st movie. // thanks for the updates. have fun and be well
Strange New Worlds is passable as Star Trek, Some of the episodes were trash but then again every Star Trek series has had trash episodes. Prodigy has been the most Star Trekish show out of all the the stuff secret hideout has produced. It holds true to the Gene Roddenberry ideas of Star Trek not the grim dark crap of the other Kurtzman trek shows. I wont even mention my disdain for STD and Lower Decks. Honestly all the crap with the Secret Hideout contract is the fault of that turd Les Moonves when he was running CBS. He gave Kurtzman that nice first contract. Then he renewed the Secret Hideout contract and gave Kurtzman even more power as a big middle finger to Sheri Redstone and her Board members before they could oust him from CBS for fighting the re merger of the two companies.
Hopefully the Fake Trek era is coming to an end So ALL modern Trek will be classed as a different universe Discovery, Picard, Lower Desk, SNW and Prodigy and even to Kelvin universe will be classed as a different universe About time if it goes ahead
Technically that means if it's classed as a separate universe, IF they bring in a team to make Star Trek Legacy like many people want, they WOULDN'T be able to use the characters & stuff that originated from Secret Hideout in that regard.
“Is that encouraging?” No. I am still filled with loathing and dread when I consider the future of Star Trek. I won’t be able to relax until every trace of Alex Kurtzman and Secret Hideout is purged from Star Trek.
As it is, I have no plans to watch any upcoming Star Trek aside from a third season of Prodigy. I LOVE SNW season 1. I can still rewatch many of those episodes. Momento Mori is superb. Season 2 was not for me to the point that I will not be watching season 3. This is a shame as a lot of Season 2 concepts were fantastic but it was too serialized romance heavy. Also, I don’t want a backdoor TOS reboot, so better just to stop watching now.
All this takes way too long. Scott Bakula the last Captain of a real Star Trek Show turns 70 this year. We lost so much time first with JJ and later with his 2nd in Command Kurtzman on these bad Woke Movies and TV series.
Strange New world needs to continue that shows excellent, Don't invest another dime in academy cuz no one asked for that hot garbage. Get Star Trek legacy up and running! I'd still like another Kelvin verse movie...
But... this "confusing" time for Star Trek has also helped it. Throwing spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks. A bunch of crap was produced, yes... but if Strange New Worlds continues to improve, I think in the long run, they will find out what works long-term... and that will be good for the fans. They had a lot of weird ideas and a lot of people and money to make them happen. A lot of them failed or are failing, but BECAUSE of that, there are some gems and some better ideas coming along. Sometimes, you have to use the shotgun strategy and see how many pellets find their mark. Then improve your aim. ....that is IF Skydance is savvy enough to realize what happened and how to do better now.
So what other words they get to make as much crap Star Trek as they want to for the next year. And then any of it that’s still in production I get to keep making. That doesn’t sound good.
Star Trek will never be dead as long as I have reruns to watch!
It's hardly dead, there's regular new content.
@sofajockeyUK Yep. I think SNW, LDS and Prodigy especially as great Star Trek.
And as long as fans keep making fan films.
Alex Kurtzman and Secret Hideout can take a long walk out a short airlock.
Berman honored Gene and stayed true to his vision. Kurtzman did Trek the way he wanted to. We need people who love and understand Trek to work on Trek.
Amen!
@@HotRod84Yeah basically like George Lucas today now that everyone hates Disney Star wars.
Klutzman should live short and wither and so should Franchise killer Jar Jar Abrams. LLAP Real Star Trek Fans.
I hope the
POWERS to be can see A future that is knot so DAM POLITICAL an THEY might be able to make money at it again. 😊
I Agree with you as well!
@@robertdolan5154 Have you been watching any of the Star Trek fan films and fan series? There’s some good stuff there, and it’s made by actual fans.
Secret Hideout even messed that up. Making the "dark" Mirror Universe actually LITERALLY DARKER than the main one. Gah.
Use that as a vehicle to introduce a new crew and ship (It doesn't need to be in that early era.. just some sort of crossover event with a new future crew. let's not act like time travel hasn't already been done 8 billion times already.)
Yeah.. I know they won't do it. I'm just saying that is the level of reform that it would take to make me happy again.
Silver lining on the dark poisonous Kurtzman cloud of death is we have Orville S4 confirmed. Literally the only space exploration show I'm looking forward to.
FamilyGuyTrek is vanilla flavored vomit- just as bad as any newtrek so far.
The Orville technically hasn't been OFFICALLY announced yet. Some people want Disney/Hulu to announce it.

The rights are somewhat easier to explain if you think of it like this:
Strange New Worlds is a child, Secret Hideout and Paramount are the parents.
If it was up to me I would decanonize everything after Enterprise. And throw out that last episode of Enterprise just because it really sucked! 😆
At this point, that is the only way to save the franchise.
Throw out ENTERPRISE too
daniellysohirka4258 Season 3 is great too. It definitely works better in streaming than on TV.
Good job, Jay. I'm down for future "Star Trek" contents under the stewardship of anyone who understands the IP from the get-go.
@harvey2906 I couldn't get past the trailer. Just a *_Rick and Morty_* style parody with equally shit animation. *_Trek's_* not meant to be a Comedy.
That’s absolutely the stupidest suggestion. Find another fandom please
@@scitrek It still all just comes down to money. When you want to remove a company they just have to be paid off.
LEGACY has entered the room!
Possible 6th season of lower decks?
Give Kurtzman the BOOT.
Kurtzman will spend this time kicking off as many projects as he can, while he can, to lock in that money.
I hope Legacy is kept for Treks post Kurtzman era.
Post Klutzman is A.I
Not even Legacy COULD be done they way people would want since Secret Hideout would technically own the elements that they put into it.
It is a good plan as this winds up the Secrets Hideout deal without a pause.
Same with a lot of the RUclips channels that did Star Trek fan movies they could just slap a subtitle saying fan films and made it available on Paramount
It would’ve saved a lot of money on production and people would understand. These are fan films and not officially canon and therefore not to mess around with people.
then the money starts rolling in and building momentum. They could then start stepping out crazy actual productions. But it would give them enough time to think about what they’re doing first something I think they’re missing.

Sky dance please save star trek lower decks we need more star trek lower decks.
Or you can watch the actual Rick & Morty. Just sayin.
@@Wolverine626 I think the key thing is that they FIANCED Into Darkness & Beyond, so they are responsible for putting those movies up.
Soooooo, SNAFU as usual, it is, then.
The cost for Larry Ellison buying Paramount is about 3.33% of his wealth so Paramount is a minor purchase.
In percentage terms for an average person it could be equivalent of someone using 3 days of salary for a new computer, new furniture or short holiday for some people.
if they don't cancel & retcon kurtzman trek & take steps to restore star trek back to what it was before 2005 then there is no hope or love for it
Yes more confident but I still have to have that wait and see attitude.
It is so unworthy of what it used to be. It's really really sad.
that's fine, cancel the entire f*cking thing and reboot it and start it fresh from after DS9/Voy. Real Trek fans won't complain about that decision.
The question is, who is it that defines what makes a "real Star Trek fan" in the first place?
@@vegeta50024 Easy. Anyone who's been a Star Trek fan going back as far as TNG.
Zilli, as of now in 2024 you trust a reboot of Trek being done so fans like it?
@@brazil-y2y trust no, but id rather give Skydance's attempt at Trek a try than whatever Kurtzman puts out.
A little perspective:
Rick Berman stayed with Star Trek after Viacom acquired Paramount in 1994. He wasn't listed until after "Star Trek: Nemesis" bombed in 2002.
Any news of Alex Kurtzman being shown the door is premature (and sorely exaggerated). As long as he keeps making money for the company, Skydance will in all likelihood have him stay put.

Time to return Star Trek to what it was to 2005, and MAYBE include Picard because season 3 was so good...everything else can go into the trash!
We need more Lower Decks
Let it die!!! Then maybe one day in my lifetime I could actually get some decent Star Trek again instead of NuTrek crap.
Kurtzman is just such a weasel that he will rush as many shows into 'production' if for no other reason to just get another paycheck(s).
That's exactly what it is to Kurtzman, nothing more than a paycheck. He has no love for anything Star Trek, that's why all of his stuff is absolute shit.
Hopefully we only have one more year of kurtzman and we get good Star Trek for the 60th anniversary
There are some that say Kurtzman's contract runs until 2026, as it was extended back in 2021. It should technically run to mid to end of 2026.
Based on what we know, this is what I can foresee happening:
August 2024: Starfleet Academy enters production, 10 episodes would be done around mid January 2025.
I hope that Star Trek will be returning to the roots of Gene Roddenberry's vision of Star Trek.

NO REMAKE!
I think Picard S3 gets way too much credit. Yes, it was better than S1 and 2....but that is a very low bar to cross
The thing to keep in mind that if Kurtzman goes, Strange New Worlds will go WITH him, since it's under HIS production company.
Alex is trying to find out which is the most popular demographic . that will be why he scatter shotting .
Things r looking up then. Kurtzman has not been good for Trek, in my opinion, so taking the reigns back from him is good news.
Just make Star Trek in the 25th Century.
Fire Kurtzman and Abrams garbage and get quality storytelling back.
St4
St legacy- f it bring back kirk
Print money.
Seriously. Get real talent to wite kirk a dope project. Picards kid and raffi sitting on each side of 7.
So can kirk however that would hapoen.
Have him meme for sure.
Full shatner.
But hella chill.
And science officer.
Hell give me 1 star wars project and i can print money.
Cut the Kurtzman cancer and all the woke activism out immediately.
4:48// 'that star trek show' like that 70s show. could be an interesting show if it was about
1. living in 1966-69 while the OSeries was on the colour tv. 2. the story revolves around Kids watching the show and falling in love with science, with tech gadgets and the names of some of the kids would be names of real people that became important business/science guys (that were inspired by the OSeries).
for example. yrs ago william S did a video of interviews, 'the captains'. that video was partly sponsored by the owner of a company. i do not remember the guy's name, but william said 'when i met the man he told me i inspired him to achieve (where he landed today)'. maybe one of the Bombardier owners.
but my Point is like a few usa shows that use Voice over and film 'back in tha day' scenes, there has been an audience for this type of programming.
fred savage used to star in a vehicle like this. i forget that shows' name, but Chris rock did a show too.
he did the voice over and the show was about when he was a kid. //
there could be a Star trek show like that// no space, just a TV set with a few scenes from the OS being seen by the real audience.
DUNE part 1 by D V is quite different than the book and the first 1984 version. with the fetus sister remaining inside the mother's womb, whereas 1984's had the little girl walking around, as does the text. so changes can be done to make the script time line work
as seasons come, if the show stays on air, there be the talks of new series, and the eventual 1st movie. //
thanks for the updates. have fun and be well
SNW MAYBE BUT NO ACADEMY PLEASE AND AX LOWER DECKS RENEW PRODIGY
I will continue to watch the Gold before 2005 and continue to ignore the crap made by secret-hideout or JJ.
Hopefully the Fake Trek era is coming to an end
So ALL modern Trek will be classed as a different universe
Discovery, Picard, Lower Desk, SNW and Prodigy and even to Kelvin universe will be classed as a different universe
About time if it goes ahead
Technically that means if it's classed as a separate universe, IF they bring in a team to make Star Trek Legacy like many people want, they WOULDN'T be able to use the characters & stuff that originated from Secret Hideout in that regard.
@@vegeta50024 Picard is part of the Discovery Universe, not part of Prime Star Trek
It would of been better if SNW was the Legacy series
Hi Jay💯👍
Kurtzman and Kennedy are like cockroaches. You just can't get rid of either one of them, to the detriment of their respective franchises.
Still better than Star Wars though😂
“Is that encouraging?” No. I am still filled with loathing and dread when I consider the future of Star Trek. I won’t be able to relax until every trace of Alex Kurtzman and Secret Hideout is purged from Star Trek.
secret hideout needs to die!
"Prodigy" is my #1 current "Star Trek" show so far. I'm so ready for its third season.
@@DonDonP1 That's IF Season 3 WILL get made. Remember for cartoons it takes longer for them to animate than doing live action stuff.
All this takes way too long. Scott Bakula the last Captain of a real Star Trek Show turns 70 this year. We lost so much time first with JJ and later with his 2nd in Command Kurtzman on these bad Woke Movies and TV series.
Too early to speculate.
We still live in the woke DEI world. No Scifi/Fantasy show is safe...
To be honest, it's hard to care anymore.
I just wish they wouldn't let them make that stupid sit com.
Would love to see Lower Decks to be renewed.
So what other words they get to make as much crap Star Trek as they want to for the next year. And then any of it that’s still in production I get to keep making. That doesn’t sound good.
No Secret Hideout and Alex Kurtzman period.
They've ruined Star Trek and all their work needs to go.
