That is a really interesting tool. If that was a draw knife for me, I would have the blade exposed on only one side. Also, I would cut different profiles so that I could make different types of molding
It was a first revision. Yeah, On the next one i'll make the holes closer to the edge to not expose the blade on one edge..and expose more of the blade on the other side..The differnt profiles is interesting. Makes me think of molding planes...thanks for the idea..and thanks for watching.
Draw Knife A draw blade has grip handles attached to the blade forward of the cutting edge and at a height above the cutting edge so that when you pull the blade toward you with even pressure the blade will approach the material wood at a very shallow angle so the cutting edge will Commence shallow cut. Aa draw knife can not be pushed. A draw knife is a larger spoke shave. I myself have several blades and this idea caught my attention.
Awesome idea and I think when I replace my planer blades here shortly I am gonna recycle them like this, had no idea what to do with them other than chuck them in the forge at some point down the road, but a draw knife is something I could use for sure. Think the only thing I would change from your design is to make the center portion thinner so you can get a lower angle on the blade when you draw... your thoughts on that ??? Great video and thanks so much for sharing your skills !!!
Thank you. My thought would be to offset the holes so that are not centered..that way more of the blad is exposed. My planer blades already had holes in then..so i used them. You could also drill holes in the bladed and reference off of that to make it adjustable. Glady you enjoyed the video. This project has been on my mind for quite a while. Appreciate you watching.
Really nice video! Where do you get planer blades? I have an old one that I need new blades for. I am going to make a DRAW KNIFE like this, with the improvements you mentioned! Can you sharpen the blade after assembly?
thanks much. Here is an Amazon link. I just measured mine..then searched for a match based on my model number of planer. To sharpen, you have to disasseble. thanks for watching. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07DH5FVNF?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR0p5F3zANyuO1vp0PcAg9FmVQBjkt8vLxaKsjzkSVRvj8WZsYz4H6GacBw_aem_2qBTvKZtiZANXzXU3auyFg

Cool project Steve, your lathe work is really good, it's fun to watch it.
Keep on rockin!
@RayandSandysWoodworking thanks so much Ray. I've thought about making a tool out of these planer blades for years. Glad I finally did a prototype.

Those blue shop towels are my favorite to use. I know that's random but I felt like I needed to announce it. 😂
@@AmyJo143 they are so useful
Those planing cuts are tough and so far I suck at those. I actually need to change my planer blades so I’m gonna give this a go in the future
@WedoweeHandyman awesome. It was a fun project for sure. Doing a live at 2pm cat today.

@cbsos4u52 thanks for the info and for watching. Someone mentioned it might be good for finishing a bow.
