I think this is a good eye opener on how difficult it is to be an F1 driver. Imagine being mocked for only being able to drive a F1 car to 99% of its potential. To put that into perspective most people can't drive an F1 car in video games to 99%, let alone do it without crashing once per lap and Latifi is able to do that in real life. Then consider he is doing that whilst contending with g forces up to 5 or 6 and doing it for 60 laps straight. Yeah F1 is not easy
He’s not driving that car to 99% potential. Maybe in terms of literally lap time but, he’s not better than 99% of professional drivers. There are almost certainly dozens of Indycar, prototype and GTE drivers that would be better than Latifi and Mazepin. He’s more than one notch below what he should be.
If people like Yuji Ade could make it to F1 and start a race then solely racing in F1 and dead last is not an achievement. There are better talents out there but they don’t get a chance due to lack of fundings. Motogp champion, Valentino Rossi, was such. I bet he would been a better racer than Mazepin or Latifi
Maybe not a stellar driver... but definitely not as bad as people make him seem if you consider that he is 10kg heavier than De Vries. That is not trivial and when you add that, makes his car a lot slower
@@AeroKittens it definitely is trivial though. FIA rules state a minimum weight for an Formula 1 driver of 80kg. If the driver weighs less than 80kg (which is the vast majority of drivers) then this difference is corrected with ballast. This ballast is added to the cockpit so it cannot be placed anywhere on the car to improve balance. This figure also includes the driver’s helmet, race suit and shoes so drivers do not aim to weigh exactly 80kg. Latifi weighs 73kg, so even with helmet and suit he is still well below the 80kg.
Let us not forget that he's a great and cheerful personality. I will never forget his legendary onboard speech to thank Claire & Frank Williams after the team got taken over. @zak I get your point, but just because you get good results in junior series doesn't necessarily mean you are a promising driver. For example, Drugovich won this year but drivers like Sargeant, Doohan, Lawson are more likely to get a seat. It's more about how much progress you have made, rather than the points you've collected.
@zak I agree about pay drivers. If a driver can't make it to F1 on merit alone and has to buy their way into a seat, then they are screwing a deserving driver out of career length, and as I said in another comment, screwing the fans out of seeing a skill set and excitement that only the best of the best can deliver.

Not much points at all really, at best they would keep finishing P12-14 (= out of the points) or something like that. Together with HAAS they're the worst of the bunch still and on own merit alone wouldn't really be finishing races in the Top 10. RedBull and Ferrari have by far the best pace, Mercedes has made a good comback and seem steady. Alpine seems solid. McLaren's lacking a little compared to the expectation this season, but still solid enough. That's your 5 teams for the Top 10. Alfa Romeo looks quite good, but has had pretty terrible reliability. Alpha Tauri seems underwhelming. The Aston Martin is very hit and miss. HAAS looked not to bad at the start of the season, now seems like a bit of a joke and well Williams... they're just holding ground. Not quite what Russell was capable extracting out of a Williams, but overall still decent compared to the last couple of years in hands of the family. But it needs weekends like the last, where there's tons of grid penalties and unfortunities of others to really capitalize on their opperunities to score points.

Nyck is a Formula E world champion, which is fantastic simply because, unlike in F1, he had to beat everyone else in equal machinery. He deserve a seat
Have a look at the “Florida Winter Series” that Stroll, Verstappen and Latifi were in before they got to F1. Potentially he would be doing the same as Ricciardo in the McLaren, and lots of people are calling for Daniel to stay in F1.
He really didn't. Latifi had seven podiums to Verstappen's five. Verstappen had three pole positions, Latifi had none. Verstappen had three fastest laps, Latifi had two. Verstappen had two DNF's, Latifi had one. Also the fact Latifi had experience in Formula 3 gave him and advantage, Verstappen didn't as he'd just come from Kz1 Karting. Overall, Verstappen was the better driver in that championship. Even with Latifi's experience he only just edged out a kid fresh from Karting. Latifi was only a question of money, but 0% talent / skills kicks him out. with only 7 points after 3 years of drivin.. its better to retire. that williams has to go this way is terrible. i have always hated paid drivers because 90% of the time there was no talent or breakthrough. F1 has become too expensive too, despite the massive TV revenue generated by pay-TV. Something is seriously wrong there. No more new teams for almost a decade. back then it was much better.
So what, he will be able to look back at his life and say he was a part of F1. With better equipment, who knows? I will say thank you NL for partly funding team Williams and allowing your teammates a chance to race in F1.

He is not one of the best drivers. So he shouldn't be in F1. He only made it in F1 because of the money his Dad brought in. That left De Vries out of F1. Latifi has no titles, De Vries has 2, F2 and FE. And this last race clearly proofed who has more talent.
@@Wolfe1966 Exactly... We can all agree that in F1 the top 20 are actually not the real best 20 drivers of the world. We are realizing that they consider more than de driving skill. For the record Latifi is a good driver just not F1 worthy when there are so few seats. He has had his chance. Williams if moving forward as a team need 2 drivers maximising the car. Albon in seat 1 and either De Vries or Schumacher with a little sponsorship.
I think Latifi is really grappling with the new car regulated designs, he was doing very well last year. It just didnt gel well with him this season. You see the same thing happening to Ricciardo, who seems to really adapt poorly to the new cars.
The biggest achievement of Latifi is being solely responsible for giving Max Verstappen his first world drivers championship. His drive at the final race of 2021 in Abu Dhabi was masterful. For that I am eternally grateful.
Albon's anesthesia issues are something of a nightmare and occur quite often. I wish for the best for his recovery. My mother has a very hard time coming off anesthesia and this is always a scare. Anesthesia needs to have a major focus on the neurological effects moving forward in the future for it to improve and become safer per individual.
No respiratory failure after anaesthesia is not “quite” common. What data are you quoting. All surgeries have risks, but anaesthetists should be well seasoned to deal with all potential anaesthetic complications
He may not be up to par in F 1 but who's to say he might prove O.k. in sports cars or some other form of racing. There has been a number of drivers who couldn't make F 1 who proved themselves capable drivers in other racing series. It'll be interesting to see what his future holds for him. Its too early to count him out.
I think Latifi should be a test drive NOT a full dancing driver, Williams have a good car but not the best. ( look at Alborn just outside the points nearly every race )
I been watching F1 for years and Latifi has performed horribly. You could put him in the top car today Red Bull and he still wouldn’t finish in the points.

De Vries getting more points in his debut race as Latifi in the entire season shows who deserves a seat.
This season yes. Last season Latifi scored a binch of points remember
