Lol, know it's an old vid but was gonna comment before you found out the hard way, you should loosen top clamp before removing fork top cap then tighten fork cap before tightening top clamp as fork leg will flex a little due to being thinner at the top, glad you got it fixed in the end and may do this mod to my grom.
Dipstick should be3.5 - 4 inches long so you can read at the 3 inch mark. Making it 3 inches and emptying until it is dry doesn't tell you anything except it is less than 3 inches. Maybe it's at 2 1/2 inches and not near 3 inches.
Your fork caps should always be on the whole way before torquing the pinch bolts on the triple tree. U can bend your forks that way. For future jobs...
@@GromGarage I'm about to do my Yamaha fz6r fork oil replacement with 20 wt. From stock 0-5wt. I got 30,000 miles on my stock oil. I recently gained a good bit of weight and my old stock oil just dont cut it anymore.
+instagrom 187 you can do the mod without changing the fork oil, but the oil is still very thin from the factory so to get the full benefits you need to change the fork oil.
hey guys I need help.. followed the video exactly . same oil . but used zz design spacers... problem is when I stoppie I feel it instantly hit the top. idk if I did something wrong or if they are to big.
Grom Garage I thought I did.. I didn't hear any air. I could do that with the forks still on right ? Maybe it's not meant for stoppies. I'm hitting it easy
Grom Garage pretty sure I can with them on... I did the 3 inch mark. but I'll start with seeing if any air. I do like rolling stoppies so idk if it's the extra force or if I did something wrong
Yes you can. But you will need a friend to help pull up on the front of the bike to get the top cap retreaded into the fork. I have seen people support it by putting a tie-down strap over a beam in their ceiling and hooking it to the handle bars.
is this possible on the gen 2's? some people have said its not possible on the gen 2 because of the different fork caps. don't know if that's true or not.
Grom fork = perfect basis for a brutal death metal bands lyrics xD - I guesss I will do this together with progressive springs in one. So not trying to slam it too hard until then ^^- keep up your great videos for our all #gromspiracy
+SandCat We have been seeing on the forums, that this can not be done to the 2017 groms. So I'm honestly not sure how you would go about modding them without upgrading to the Ohlins forks
You can not, since the bolt heads are taller. I did find cap head bolts on fastenal that are half the height, but not sure if they have the correct size. I might look into that.
So I was able to find stainless bolts that have the short cap head, but only in 35mm and 80mm. You could use those, but would need to cut it down to length.
It's moved up for more travel, but it also has thicker oil so it's harder to compress. I'm going to be doing this and some springs soon. Maybe a rear shock I'll have to see.

Yeah definitely a silly mistake that could have ended up ALOT worse!
Also you could just measure how many ML you get out then put the same amount back in then it's exactly where it was
Update, I own this grom for the past year or 2 lol and these forks still mint af.
Hell yeah 🤙
3:20 I swear I forgot I was watching a video about Grom forks.... My God 😂
Oh yea baby!
Does this for length extension do any harm to handling at higher speeds in turns since the back spring high stayed the same ?
that fork sounded just like my girlfriend
+Bleef R 😂😂😂😂
i was thinking the same thing
Digital?
And her mom
Bawwwhahahaha!
I’m glad someone said it!
Video damn near made me horny! lmao!
Just curious why use impact driver? Sprocket bolts are the only place I would use an impact driver on a motorcycle.
+Jordan Seigel makes life easy, and quicker for video
Jordan Seigel
And lower the force settings

For real. This dude's a clown.
Nice work and thanks for the shout out 😁
+levelup levelup well if it wasn't for ya, it wouldn't have been fixed yet! So thank you!
Your fork caps should always be on the whole way before torquing the pinch bolts on the triple tree. U can bend your forks that way. For future jobs...
Yep. I learned the hard way
@@GromGarage did you bend them?
Good video though. With your weight I think you said 210 or something, you could have went with 20wt fork oil easily.
I was having issues rethreading the cap in since I had the top clamped. Once I removed the clamp I was able to thread it back on

Fill the oil to 1.5 inches from top of fork, not 3 ,,,unless you want soft or way nothing,,,
I like how you played it cool and took the wheel off after fork removal.
lol yeah... probably should have done that before I took the forks off
Can u post the links for the stuff u used to do this please
I know this is old but did this actully lengthen the fork and if so do you have the new measurement?
Great video. Im kinda a Fat Ass. About 210lbs. Stock springs ok or would stiffer ones be better? Thanks for this video.
I'm loving the videos from you guys, love it even more when you make honest mistakes. Keep the mods coming!
+Andrew Collister there will probably be many more to "opps" to come!!
could you leave the forks in the triple tree and do this mod if you weren't changing the fork oil?
+2000jeepxj Yes, you can leave the forks in if you're just doing the mod and not changing out the fork oil.
GunGrommer yeah all you have to do is just pick up the whole bike and turn it upside down instead
Can the front end be lowered by sliding the forks up through the clamps or do the forks become too skinny for the clamps to catch it and tighten?
Yes
could i just do the spacer mod and not chamge the oil or is that necessary to do?
+instagrom 187 you can do the mod without changing the fork oil, but the oil is still very thin from the factory so to get the full benefits you need to change the fork oil.
Grom Garage Dumb question perhaps ; however this mod adds travel but does it also increase ride height?
+tsunamizc yes it does, it raises the front up about an inch. It's a little bit noticable when you have a stock Grom next to it
hey guys I need help.. followed the video exactly . same oil . but used zz design spacers... problem is when I stoppie I feel it instantly hit the top. idk if I did something wrong or if they are to big.
I would say there might be air in the piston still. so remove the top cap and and compress the inner shaft until its super stiff.
Grom Garage I thought I did.. I didn't hear any air. I could do that with the forks still on right ? Maybe it's not meant for stoppies. I'm hitting it easy
+sheddinglies you might be able to with the forms still on the bike. Also make sure you have enough oil in the fork as well
Grom Garage pretty sure I can with them on... I did the 3 inch mark. but I'll start with seeing if any air. I do like rolling stoppies so idk if it's the extra force or if I did something wrong
Instant fan 🎉
can you do this without changing the fork oil and not pulling the forks off the triple tree? I don't have a way to lift it off the forks.
Yes you can. But you will need a friend to help pull up on the front of the bike to get the top cap retreaded into the fork. I have seen people support it by putting a tie-down strap over a beam in their ceiling and hooking it to the handle bars.
What size hex did you use for the fork clamps? I can’t find it anywhere online. I took a spill and need to realign the forks.
Think it's a 8mm?
3:08. can I call you sometime. 😍😍 😂
+SandCat 😂😂😂 should have added some music to that section 😉
What did you strip and how much did it cost to fix ?
+Blackops123453215 I didn't end up stripping it. Just had to loosen the top clamp bolt and it threaded
is this possible on the gen 2's? some people have said its not possible on the gen 2 because of the different fork caps. don't know if that's true or not.
+Dakota Schmidt only thing you can really do on the SF(gen 2) is change the fork oil to thicker oil
Sick video man
+Dusk Rider Thanks!
You learn this from Dodge Rider?
Id use 30 weight if over 200 pounds.
How many oz of fluid are needed?
Honestly can't remember. But I'm pretty sure it says it in the video
Hey would doing this help wheelies when you drop the wheelie back down you know?
+Antoine Bardet it is a little stiffer when setting it back down. We aren't really into stunting and only pull short and small wheelies. 😂😂

Just to clarify, this only works on og grom forks
@@GromGarage that's fine as mine is an OG :D
Oh really? I’m looking for stiffer fork mods for a Monkey
Suggestions???
Thanks
soooo should I go 20 w since im damn near 300 lbs?
Yeah I would say so
Black keys intro!
no matter what I do I can not get all the air out and this is the second time
Have you tried draining all the fluid, compressing the inner shaft, and redoing everything? I just dont know why it would be doing that to you.
Its an older video, but any link to where to buy the kit? You have it as parts needed, do they all come in the kit?
You just gotta be resourceful and get the parts at the hardware store
any suggestions on doing this to the 2017 Grom?
+SandCat We have been seeing on the forums, that this can not be done to the 2017 groms. So I'm honestly not sure how you would go about modding them without upgrading to the Ohlins forks

thanks! will buy the 80 and machine some off the head +1 for video thanks!
epic bro
Thanks +antione motley!!
any update on anyone modifying the 2017 sf forks?
+RayXLaced only thing you can do is change out the oil
Grom Garage I will have to try that out thanks
Do i need to remove these forks in order to change my ignition key?
Probably?
No wtf
Cool
01:03 nuts
it's still soft you just moved it up .
The thicker oil helps a bit too

I like the moaning
Opps. lol
Gayer than it had to be
😂 thanks for watching
