So if a meeple lands on his head, does he get workman's comp?
The idea and mechanics of this game really intrigued me which is why I backed it originally. Recently got it and it is a fun play. After multiple playthroughs, you become familiar with each meeple and what they do. Also, played with multiple strategies and have seen success from large buildings and a bunch of smaller ones based around objectives. This game offers a good variety of strategies and a fun playing experience. Just make sure you allow at least 90-120 min to play. Hardcore gamers may want a bit more. Lack of players aid is a negative but there are some created ones already out on the web that are helpful.
Rolling meeples is fun, Loved the overview and father - daughters short review.
Hobby Doctor Games UK
I have played several times. I have fat fingers, my kids are hyper… we rarely knock buildings over. It’s also not hard to remember what the different meeples do. This is being really nit picky.
I liked the fly over views during the final review
The rolling the meeples reminds me of Cubitos. And I wonder if those dice would be better in this game
I want to play this, but I'm also concerned about how stable the towers are. Maybe I'll try first and if I find it a little fiddly, hope that there will be a digital implementation I can buy.
I really really enjoy this one. I didn't find knocking the buildings over an issue. But it definitely isn't the smoothest design, but there's a lot of fun to be had. Set-up and tear-down are a bit of a bear, which is probably my biggest gripe.
Its definitely fun watching the city grow organically during gameplay. Fun, simple game, but definitely a little fiddly.
Sounds like this could be a 9/10 with a 2nd Edition that makes the bits fit tighter, good player aids, and maybe adjusting numbers of harder buildings.
Plus I hear the King Kong mini-expansion is hilarious... but only available to KS backers... so a 2nd edition KS would be an instaback for me.
I've been waiting to hear Tom's thoughts on this. I'm sad that you need the Kickstarter version to get the bonus mini game where you drop an ape on the board.
It’s Meeple Farkle with Legos! 😁
The buildings look a lot like Lego! Maybe replacing them with sturdier Legos helps!?
Then the put the buildings on a place making it a module that can easily be moved.
I’ll stick with cubitos, which is also a bit clunky. John d Clair need to either streamline his games a bit more (or just give us more understandable written ability cards in cubitos so there is no room for interpretation).
Just played this a couple of days ago. Really enjoyed it. We played a 4 player game and it took a few hours to play but that includes the learning process and getting familiar with everything. Lots to do to score but nothing too complex. A lot of pieces and can be a table hog. I'm looking forward to the next play.
The yellow meeples can be op. We had a guy be scoring 5 to 7 points a round in addition to building things. Also because you roll when someone else is taking their turn this game can be bad if you have the guy/girl who cheats. Game can be pretty AP prone. Definitely a 7.
It only happened to us once that we knocked a building over. The game is lots of fun.
I backed, and enjoy the game, but towers getting knocked over has been a constant problem for me.
Bummer to hear about the problems with the game. However it does really help with my decision on which game I should get between this and Quacks.
Get Cubitos
@@Listan1 Cubitos gets old quick
@@kumanight Not for us.
I completely agree with you on this one. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it for it being such a simple game. Excellent entry level game, but still enough for me to enjoy it as well. Plus I love the art!
This one review I wished it would have been Zee, Camilla, Chris or Roy instead of the kids (not that they are bad or anything but this would have been more interesting on an mature view to me)
Did ruby grow 3' in the last year?
She's really shot up!
Wow I have big fingers and mediocre vision and I had none of these problems with the game. After more than one or two games you know what every meeple does.
We can't get this one off the table.
My issue with this game is the luck factor. The difference between getting one on it's feet vs it's side is 2x resources. You also can't ever reroll one that's on its side. So you have no opportunity to try and push your luck there. I wanted to like this game, but the little mitigation for luck and long playtime made this a 6 for me.
Same here, especially the way too long playtime
I have the clumsiest family in the world (including myself)... I suspect this game would be a disaster.
I didn't like this one. Felt fiddly and kinda boring.
those building "lego" type pieces are so frustratingly fiddly and cheap looking that they ruined my excitement for the game.
