I am not ashamed to admit that this was my first introduction to Godzilla. And then my older brother showed me Godzilla 2000. And the emotions both films evoked from the story and how each respective monster played their parts in their movies were quite vastly different. I didn't really know of the other Godzilla films at the time. And so the ending for 2000 really felt somber and at times rageful. And somewhat sorrowful considering how it ends. Whereas with Godzilla 1998, I felt a little sad given how it died at the end there. But then the reveal came and left me feeling hopeful but also a little uncertain at the same time. So really at the end of the day. I honestly enjoyed both films. For different reasons. Godzilla 2000 because of that iconic theme done by Akira Ifukube. And Godzilla 1998 for being an intense thrill ride through out the whole film.
I think half of the Godzilla fandom was exposed to it through this movie so don’t feel bad. I remember it being one of my earliest memories of being a Godzilla fan as well next to the Sea Monster and Megalon.
When you actually think about it, it makes sense that the giant Godzilla couldn't catch the small taxi. Have you ever tried to catch something smaller than you that's actively trying to evade you? Not easy.
Never got the Japanese "hate" for Zilla. Different design, but good design. Not fat, not slow, not sluggish - but instead agile, muscled and predatory. This is a true alpha.
If only monster movies were a bit more believable. They aren't. They seem to focus more on the damages caused by the monsters. They are also not as scary as they used to be.
Ignore the critics
This movie is our childhood nostalgia
I don't care who you are. I liked this movie
Loved this. Loved the grittiness, 'realism' and the monster design is superb. You really feel for the poor beast.
