this song brings me back memories when i was in catholic elementary school i was in the choir and i played the guitar and remember playing this song and i loved it brings me back
Hi Chris, I'm an organist in Sydney Australia and do buy from OCP. So glad you recorded City of God, it's one of my favourites. Please don't stop recording hymns, great to listen to and meditate.
Penny Folds thanks! I plan to start recording again this week.....but I've already done a lot of the OCP stuff. I need to search through the books and find what I haven't done yet. If you have any suggestions I'm all ears. By the way I love your city.....I was able to go there for some time when I was in college (early 90's)
Carol Herm Thanks so much! I love music ministry, and have been doing it for a while. if there's ever a song I can sing for you, or something I can help you with, let me know. csbrunelle@msn.com
Wonderful performance! Thank you. I am interested in recording a cover of this song as well. Are there any guidelines that need to be followed to record and post on RUclips?
Thank you! My suggestion would simply be to clearly indicate the composer and copyright holder. What I do is type in the copyright info exactly as it appears on the sheet music. OCP understands that MANY people want to cover these wonderful songs...they aren't going to give anyone any grief about it. :-)
Thanks! I've had people ask me before about my picking/strumming patterns, but truth be told what I do is just instinctual and I'd be hard pressed to tell you exactly what I'm doing. I just sort of.....do it. :-)
This is great but aren't you in the wrong key? Its written in E Major. Your playing it in a different key, even the capo 1 doesn't make it E major as your basically hovering around Chords in the key of D. Its like your playing it a half step down like the Key of Eb.
Yep, doing it a half step lower. Capo 1 makes it in e-flat not E. This is one of my Oldest videos and I didn’t always worry about doing things in the key of the written music
Hoo my Goodness , I remember this song , was my first goal , not is easy for me.
Thank you so much .
Blessings
Hearing you sing this familiar song made me choose it for tomorrow. Thanks again.
Great tempo!!!! Just like we do it at our church. Energized, uplifting!!! Great guitar and singing! ♥
Thank you 🙏
Well done in a relaxed way that sounds wonderful! Thanks for your help!

Right on, Chris!
Great strumming, clear vocals. Truly Awesome!
Thank you so much for posting Chris! We used to always sing this song at St. Therese's Parish in Phoenix.. a favorite!
I sang this to myself from memory, two hours after my Mother Coded at the hospital. She lived two more days, but passed away anyway.
So lovely and inspiring! Thank you so much!!
Great job Chris!

Great job, Chris.
Much better on guitar than on organ (yes, it works, but just bearly).

We'll sing this at Mass on Sun for the Recessional hymn. (Last song at Mass, for ppl who may not be familiar.) ;-)

What’s the strumming pattern for each chord?
Timing is 6/4
Chris can you record this same version in the same key as this recording in the church when you get a chance? Thanks! God Bless!
Absolutely. I guess I didn’t realize this was one of my older recordings where I used to go “off script “a little more.
I’m not sure how quickly I will get that done though. I have some other things going on in the next few days. But thank you for reminding me
Very beautiful and thank you for posting. What strum pattern are you using?
God bless

Thank you. I've had other experienced guitarists tell me the same thing. What an awesome gift you have. Many blessings.
Great job! Do you have a CD with this?
No, sorry. I just make RUclips videos :)
Where can we get the music score/chords for these wonderful songs ??
Most of the stuff I record is from OCP (Oregon Catholic Press). They have a website where for a couple of bucks you could order the music. :-)
