Another gorgeous framed finish! And if I have floss strewn everywhere by next Tuesday in a fit of reorganizing, I'll be blaming you and Susan! Have a fantastic weekend.
Shelley, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. Most of my comments this time are about the floss. I will happily shoulder the blame for any fit of reorganizing that you go through. Happy stitching this weekend! Best, K
What a great frame for your HANDS stitch which is Beautiful. Such lovely colors for Thomas. Karen your bags are Gorgeous and what fun you’ll have using them. The quilting is stunning and I love your corners. Fun FT.
I love Thomas, he is coming out great. Margaret Doyle is absolutely beautiful and the frame is perfect. Quilt is beautiful. I am always trying different ways to store my DMC, thanks for sharing how you are doing yours.
Hi Karen! Your videos are always awesome! Today you made me "schoom" to order the blue cheater fabric and the two bag patterns you made! Beautiful! Anytime I see blue, you don't need to tell me twice to run and buy it! Thanks for the enabling! Beautiful FFO from HATS! 😊
Karen...thanks for the delightful visit...your bags are outstanding...I had to order a complete set of DMC several years ago...I no longer drive and my husband doesn't like to go to Joann's...your quilt is beautiful...best wishes ❤
I am so glad that you enjoyed the video. I am sure you love having the whole DMC set. No more quick trips out for one or two colors. Happy stitching. Best, K
Great DMC storage idea!!! I have mine in floss bags with the number of the skein on the front of the bag and there is a hole punched in the right hand corner of the bag and I put them on rings in numerical order and store them in a cabinet. Another beautiful quilt with stunning quilting patterns!!!! .
Lynn, It sounds like you have a system that works for you. I just don't have a place to hang flosses, which is why I have kind of avoided using floss drops. I will be able to accommodate them in my baggies. I am so glad that you enjoyed the quilt and the quilting! It was great talking to you on Zoom the other day. Stay well. My best to Chuck. Karen
I am so impressed by that Quilt. The talent on quilting you display is amazing. Thomas is looking quite dapper coming along and Reverend Gordon squashBottom will be cute as well. It’s a never ending dilemma on what to do with floss. I have a full set in the boxes that are clear and then the sandwich bag in clear plastic shoebox for the overflow numbers. But now I enjoy working with floss drops and those are kept on a ring. So I guess there’s three systems going at once, but it all work. To me it’s about the Stitching anyways. Keep up the great work on the videos. Thanks for sharing. Your Indiana friend.
Thank you so much for your kind words on my quilting and stitching. I am glad to hear that you have a floss storage system that works for you. That is my goal too. I will keep everyone posted on how it works out. Happy stitching. Best, K
So good to see you again Karen! So excited to see what you’ve been up to. I always enjoy our visits. Clowns? Anyway I love Thomas, I have him and I need to start stitching him. 🦃 I just purchased the newest Plumstreet pattern, the one with the huge house…. Ummm mansion! haha. Thomas will be put on by hold for now. Your frame piece is gorgeous!! Well until next time take care.😘
I too used to have the bobbins and baggies for extras. Stitching time was more important so I ditched the bobbins. I found a library card cabinet on Amazon and then ordered zip top bags from Uline to fit the drawers in the cabinet. I do put an index card in each bag to label them and give it some backbone. It takes up more space than bobbin boxes but I don’t want to take the time to wind bobbins anymore.
Margaret Doyle is gorgeous! The frame is perfect for it. Congrats! I also use the 3x5 cards on the back of my pieces, but I didn’t think about signing them. I’m going to go back and do that. Thanks for the idea! Happy stitching! ☺️🪡
Carla, Thank you for your kind words on Margaret Doyle. I really think the frame is perfect for it! I am glad that you found a new idea in my video. Happy stitching. Best, K
The DMC system will be great. I actually enjoyed getting it all organized. I’ve been enjoying seasonal stitching also. Will look forward to your finishes. Talk to you soon.
Your Margaret Doyle is gorgeous . It is very tempting. One of the best tools I splurged on was the DMC five drawer wooden box. It comes with one of all the 500 standard flosses. I ordered it on the dmc website and it came in three days, well packed. I refer to it almost daily. If I pull a skein, I write an iou note I keep in the box to replenish it. I also bought the silver tin that has all 35 etoile colors. I bought it on Amazon and I keep it current. It fits in the bottom drawer of the box. I prefer dmc floss and use the etoile wherever possible.
I have lusted over that beautiful DMC box, but just can't swing it. Good for you that you have it. I really is the ideal solution. You have a great system going. Happy stitching. Best, K
Your quilt is so much fun with all the variety of quilting stitches. I can tell by the enthusiasm in your voice how much your enjoyed working on it! It’s so pretty! Great start on Thomas! I’m sure he’ll be ready for display by Thanksgiving! Whew, what a project you’ve undertaken, buying and sorting floss. The result will be well worth it!
I am so glad that you enjoyed the video. I am going to love having each color in one place rather that having to look in several places. Happy stitching. Best, K
Great to see you this evening Karen. Love your framed piece. You've really got me thinking about my floss storage. Mine is bobbinated in a stack of various sized plastic boxes, most of them with homemade dividers so not very stable. Recently I've started to use floss drops for my bigger projects. Love the quilt this week. So many patterns depending on what way you look at it. Take care, best wishes from 🇮🇪
Floss storage can be very challenging. I am hoping that my new system will put all of my DMC in one place so I really know what I have. I will be able to have skeins, bobbins and floss drops in my bags. This will keep me from having to look in several places to see if I have a color. It is certainly a conundrum for stitchers. Happy stitching. Best, K
Hello Karen, So good to see you again...I LOVED Thomas and the Rev! They are both in my stash but stitching time for this Autumn season is getting tight so they may be a 2025 start! Never dreamed I'd be talking about 2-0-2-5...where did all those years go??? Your quilt is absolutely stunning...the soft, quiet colors are beautiful and the quilting patterns are so perfect! Have a lovely week and until next time...xoxoxo
Thank you so much for your kind comment. It is always so nice to see you in my comments section. I really appreciate your support. Don't even talk about the years. Oy. Happy stitching. Best, K
My mother set up my DMC floss storage at least 30 yrs ago. (I am now 74 ).She numbered every envelope with DMC floss number. I now have 10 photo boxes packed with all my floss in order on a shelf. Envelopes do not shift like plastic bags. I love my system and will NEVER change. I will get more photo boxes and new same size envelopes. You can always just put your baggies in the envelopes that are proper size of photo boxes. Best wishes on your organizing. My fancy floss is another story! So many floss clubs and so much floss. You are a joy to watch.
Thank you for sharing your floss storage system! It sounds great, and I am so glad you love it. You are so fortunate that your mother started you out right. I will be putting an index card in each bag to make it stand up straight. For fancy floss, I am using Vonna Pfeiffer's system. She has a separate box for each brand. I don't have that many, so I just have them all in one banker's box in alphabetical order.
Thank you for sharing my cruise sampler. The challenges of organizing our floss gets worse as we change what we do with it. Back in the 80’s I learned to loop the floss on small white plastic rings about 3/4” in diameter. We braided the floss and then cut the number band down the back, place it around the floss and repaired the cut with tape. We could pull one thread like floss drops but yes very time consuming. Then I had 3 storage boxes with drawers, similar to what woodworkers use to organize their nuts and bolts, to organize in small groups by numbers, putting the numbers on stickers on the outside of the drawers. Then I went to bobbins, mostly stored in baggies in baskets. Now I use floss drops so they share the baggies but I have too many. I like the idea of storing in the picture boxes. I guess I have another job as I plan my winter hibernation projects. Margaret Doyle is beautiful.
Always enjoy watching your video. The blue Fig Tree quilt bag is beautiful. Also, love your quilts. I am currently going through my DMC and organizing and wanting to complete my set. I need about 150 more skeins to complete it. Whenever I go to Hobby Lobby I usually get about 20 skeins. So maybe in the next couple of months it will be complete.
Thank you for your kind words. I hope you enjoy finishing your DMC set. You have a good plan to only get 20 at a time. It can be a real ouch to the budget. That is why I have had so little haul in the last 2 months. Happy stitching. Best, K
Oh my I just did my dmc as well! What a chore. I have very few specialty threads, a few like maybe 8? Lol love the stitching, and oh the bags are beautiful! I have 95 missing from my dmc master set just to end of 3000s but can’t just buy 95 at .80cents each all at once! Lots of duplicates as I unkitted all my stuff to do the master set. Now to rekit a few. It definitely is. Huge job. I have 4 of the regular size and my extras and unkitted are in a double sided box. And haha I as well have all my extra skeins in the picture boxes in baggies. So I will only use my master set if not in my boxes or the picture boxes. Oh wow that quilt with all the different quilting is amazing.❤❤ see you next time!
I'm so glad I'm not alone in the DMC organization journey. It is a chore for sure. I know, getting the flosses all at once is an ouch. That is why I had so little haul this month. I am not going to un-kit anything. I am OK with having duplicates of DMC, but not over-dyes or silks. That would be a real ouch! Happy stitching. Best, K
Your threads could be in my house! Your solution makes so much sense - easier to keep find and perhaps keep track of stash. The larger boxes are also more attractive when visible. Your quilted blue bags look great. I take it they were lined with a complimentary fabric? Thanks for sharing.
I am so glad that you enjoyed the video. I had a neutral fabric in my stash that I am using for the lining. The lining was not included in the kit. Happy stitching. Best,K
Gorgeous bags Karen!!!!❤ Oddly….I’m in the middle of the same floss project. (Clearly great minds think alike! 😊) Luckily mine are already organized but I am filling in my missing colors. I know I have them all in projects somewhere but you just get to the point where missing colors from the “master set” make you nuts…😂 Thanks for another video. Good luck with your floss! Lori
Thank you so much for your comment on my video. Yes, great minds think alike! It is such a satisfaction when you finally get that missing color! I will be sharing my progress on my DMC reorganization in my new video today. Happy stitching. Best, K
Karen are you going to the Jingle Ball. Last year I did the same class you did, Blue Flower biscornu. This year I am doing Satsuma street Christmas Cameos and Tiny Modernist Gingerbread house. Hope to see you at the ball.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I am really loving the results. As soon as I clear some of my work space, I can start on bag #3. Happy stitching. Best, K
Hi Karen! Thanks for sharing all your stitching with us. My friend Kelly and I will be at Sampler Symposium and I’m looking forward to meeting you. I’d say you’re welcome to sit with us if you’d like but it’s not like you know what we look like! 😅
Thank you so much for letting me know that you and your friend will be there. Please introduce yourself to me. I understand from the latest FT from The Attic, that we will be seated at tables facing the front of the room with two to a table. It is disappointing because it will be harder to meet people, but I suppose it is good because everyone will be able to see the presentations. I am looking forward to it. Happy stitching. Best, K

@@recoveringmonogamousstitch1947 Just a Good Morning, from Dee in AZ 😀
Do you have a plan once you kit something up? Then there will be missing numbers. I enjoyed your video. I watched it twice.
My plan is to always keep at least one form of the floss (skein, bobbin, or floss drop) in the box. I will replenish as needed. I also have many patterns kitted up, so I am sure that I have more duplicates in those bags. Not concerned about having duplicates of DMC. I would not do that with over-dyes or silk. Too costly. Happy stitching. Best, K
I bought the same boxes you use for your Vicky Clayton silks but how do you organize the floss? Beautiful quilt.
Sharon, I don't have that many VC silks to organize. The ones I have now are in current projects. I will face that question when the time comes. Happy stitching. Best, K
