Damn! Man I love your channel so much, I feel like there’s a lot of VERY useful stuff that I didn’t know where to get for all these years I’ve struggled to play guitar, you make everything very clear, all these solos doesn’t look like random set of notes anymore after you explained everything, also vids about rhythmic things are also great and very easy to get, sorry if this sounds like random rambling but this channel is so eye opening for me I can’t stop being amazed
That riff you did at the end is exactly my guitar playing goal. To take little techniques from legendary guitarists and play great sounding improv melodies over a jam track or with my buddies.
Love this idea. I learnt this solo years ago just note for note. But it's great to learn the theory behind this. You should do this with other popular solos too!! Start a series..
6 months in and this might be the first proper meaty solo that ive attempted. Fuck doing that 19th fret arpeggio on an acoustic 😭. (I dont have a cutaway acoustic)
Awesome work man. Hoping to see more such solo breakdowns from you. A John Petrucci solo breakdown would be awesome 😁. Keep the good work on bruh. Love from India 🇮🇳🤘.
the question is how did you now the pattern and the notes i mean why its the same how did you know?? is it the pattern or notes is the also way to create a solo please reply i need answers
Can you teach how to count tempo 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 while playing? I use a metronome and try to figure out the exact time by ear but some times it's not the best approach. Thank you very much.
I love your style and your passion, I'm a visual impaired live in Italy.. start to play when I'm 18 but not whit big result.. there is the passion but I lost hahahaha can you help me to find a route for do some theory learn the freatboard and start play at tempo?! if not.. thank you the same.. you are great in any situation good luck and thank you to share your knoulege. bye bye Dimitri
Man, I've probably been practicing that arpeggio lick for about as long as this video has been around and I just can't get it up to speed. I've made very minimal speed gains. I wish someone could watch me to tell me what I'm doing wrong, lol.
@@liliyapraznikova5670 I would say anything is possible, lol. I have finally made some improvements by isolating different sections. I think my bigger problem is that I don't know very many licks and I struggle with the ones I do know. I think finding an actual instructor may be the best thing at this point.
@@GDCDGC Thanks for the reply. So I start out with a sweep, which that part actually is getting better. The end of that section, though, I alternate pick, which I seem to suck at. I'm really thinking about finding a teacher in my area, as I've been playing for over 20 years and I struggle quite a bit with alternate picking or even more staccato picking patterns on the acoustic. I miss strings a lot or get stuck between two quite often.
Best channel for intermediate players! I love your videos! keep up the good work, your teaching style is amazing! When I look for lessons i always check your channel first. greetings from a fellow guitar RUclipsr from Germany! btw, any chance for a "holier than thou" solo lesson? there's nothing good on youtube.
Hmmm, good suggestion! I haven't done any lessons on rhythm metal guitar yet, so if I can find a good concept to teach that is included in Holier Than Thou, I'll start working on something. Thanks!
Its reminiscent of the clave pattern that latin music uses... counting in between 16th notes like that can be weird so Fake TripLet just makes it a quick and easy to convey the same feel.
@@SignalsMusicStudio the proper name is tresillo! it is quite common in latin music. another cool related rhythm is the cinquillo, which has 5 pulses instead of 3 (quarter note, eight note, quarter note, eighth note, quarter note). so cinquillo: (1) + (2) (+) 3 (+) (4) + (sorry if this is awkward to read but I'm sure you get the picture)
Please do more of this thing that you do at the end where you apply what you’ve taught in the video and create a solo from scratch using the techniques covered!
Man, you can find a lot of lesson for solos or songs, but this breakdown to shapes AND creating your own solos based on those are pretty awesome, and can't really find anywhere else. So thanks, pretty cool lesson!
This was the first solo my guitar teacher taught me. He said he has everyone learn this one because it's actually really easy and boosts the confidence of new players.
At first I thought u meant the end solo and I was like wtf kind of teacher u have, and then I remembered this video is only the intro. It is very good one to learn tho, and it’s very easy once u get it. I learned it in about 20 minutes
@@Yeoldepube I spent four hours of my first day just playing random open strings and a horrible sounding C chord. And even when I learned this solo(After one year of playing), it took me a few hours to really nail the quick arpeggio bit. Idk are you the reincarnation of hendrix?
It's like Justin for intermediate players. You are the only two who put any real emphasis on timing. So valuable for those of us born with 2 left feet. You're teaching style is phenomenal. Thanks a mill and keep up the good work!
I started the day wondering if I should learn this solo practice sweeping and arpeggios or run some modal exercises and the stepped into this satisfying mix of a lesson....thanks!
Love the tabs on screen and the step by step directions on how theory is used. And the very clear concise verbalization of fret/string/finger. Will definitely be checking out your channel for more functional theory lessons
I'm pretty sure he employs sweep picking throughout a lot of his early solos, I can think of a few sweeps in the clean leads from "One". I remember being totally unable to play the fade to black lick correctly though until I finally arranged the picking as i notated here... I STRONGLY advise practicing that picking pattern first, then feel free to practice it with strict alternate picking later for good measure.
Man, I've just watched this vid for the thousandth time, I've already got the solo down (as good as I can....for now;-)) But what I want more of is ; your version Jake, it sounds n feels more mature n grand than Kirks imo, I love metallica, but Jakes Take Bakes the Cake!!;-)

I really wish I could learn something from this video but I already learned the solo using the same scale and arpeggios they always use for all their solos. Once you start learning Metallica solos you catch on really quickly.
Thanks for such good video. I'd like to watch a similar one but with the song hit the lights and seek and destroy. I played them but sure not accurate as the original record and I'd love to figure out all the techniques kirk uses in those solos. Thank you.
I realize this is years old, but please if you're still active could you do the second solo for this song? That would be amazing. Ty for this and everything else you put for free on RUclips

Great job and I’m sure I speak for a lot of us when I say we live the handwritten tabs !!! I do have one question !! What amp do you use to get your tone?? Found your lessons are putting it all together for me after three years of playing...I know what and where you're referring to...it's the interfacing you are projecting that has me in a more melodic state of practice...could all that boring theory be making sense now?

This is one of my favorite solos ever. It's SO much fun to pick apart and analyze. Beautiful song. Metallica rules.
Kartik Chandrasekhar well said🤘

When I saw the scale shapes I instantly subbed and liked. Never knew any of the theory before but this makes so much sense!
