- The Matador was India’s first diesel light-motor vehicle. It came loaded with a D 301 E2 1.8-litre engine. Let’s take a look at the specifications.
High fuel efficiency is the main USP of this vehicle. It had good driving dynamics with front wheels being driven by the engine. The engine was paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The panoramic sunroof provided very good visibility. It was available in left-hand drive as well as right-hand drive.

I am fortunate to have experience of Metador many times.
I was in class 4th, my brother was 4 yrs old, when we visited to my Tauji's home at Gujarat in 1994. He was a Forest Conservator there back then.
We travelled extensively with some police personnel and some of his staff members, through Saurashtra region, Jamagar, Surendranagar, Junagadh to Dwarika, and came back to Ahmedabad in a khaki colour Metador.

When I was 8 years old my uncle had 2 of this as a school van. The first thing that the driver would do when he came in the morning was to patiently pour one bucket full of water in the radiator and then warm up the engine ❤
My uncle used to the same in his matador tempo in 1990. The engine was inside the cabin.
Very well maintained Matador. Oh this van is such a nostalgic thing. Use to go to school during 1988 to 1990 in a blue Matador. The driver used to play beautiful Kannada songs from the van's cassette player. The only competitor to this van was "Standard Van" but it was not as fast as Matador.

How you restored this old vehicle? It is getting back my old memories when Iam child at that my father is driving school van.
luckily i got one in low kilometers, previous owner was using for personal reasons. engine is easy to maintane . the problem you have to deal is rust.

To Press heater for certain minutes,then to have to start!👍
Once the engine is hot she is quicker .
There is heat plug to warm up engine so take a few minutes
Remember the heater switch, should press for about a minute to warm up the cylinders.
Mottador.. Runs hot hot smooth smooth and power ..... Ie matador....
The matador in which taking friends for a party is considered a curse,

The company was Force not Bajaj I guess who manufactured Matador Van and Tempo. My uncle had a tempo in 1990 with engine heater button function.
