The reason I like this channel and you as a content provider and/or teacher, is the to the point ACCURATE detail. I've been recording audio for more than 35 years. And I hear terms being used interchangeably and a lot of times incorrectly. It works if everyone on the project understands the RE-interpretation and use of those terms. Where it becomes an issue is when you come across an old head like me, who knows the original use of each term and coupled with the fact that I'm a scientist (which means I'm a pain in the ass when it comes to details and accuracy), makes for a cringe session every time I hear it. Like when people say deers, irregardless or my fav, "I could care less". Oh really? then why don't you care less if you could? Am I being a stickler.....yes. But dammit I'm right.
This video is an UNBELIEVABLE wealth of info. I've watched a few of your videos. You are so knowledgeable at a young age vs many composers, I'd believe that you started MIDI Orchestration 12 years before you were born. I don't understand how you don't have more subscribers. You WILL. Your explanations are so clear and helpful. Amazing.
Haha, thank you! It's the trial by fire Hollywood puts you through that forces you to acquire a lot of knowledge very quickly. :-) I only started my channel a little over a year ago and it's been growing steadily so I'm not worried. Being a full-time composer does make my upload schedule a bit spotty sometimes which the algorithms don't necessarily reward.
@@AnneKathrinDernComposer I was thinking about that (how does she have time to..."), and given your schedule and the business your are in, we REALLY appreciate EVERY post, whenever you are able.
@@AnneKathrinDernComposer I found it really helpful, and I'm making time to check out the rest of your channel as I'm writing this. Thank you once again!
Hi Anne- Kathrin, viele Gruesse von deinem ehemaligen Grundschulklassenkameraden und Nachbarn Jan Fehrmann. Wow klasse Channel und weiterhin viel Erfolg!
I follow you since the beginning Anne because what you do is what I Love ! Thank you ! If some French people read my comment, can you please help me to translate those words in French : cue, stem, dub stage ? Thanks !
Another great video, Anne-KAthrin, thank you for making it! A question about loop stems for games: in the video, one can see a session with some tracks having what I believe is the reverb tail, for not making the loop sound broken at the edges, is that correct?
Thanks for watching! Yes, the way video game loops are created is to take the tail of the last beat, cut it, and then put it under the beginning of the first beat. I actually intend to make a separate video about that as well. Thanks for asking! :-)
@@AnneKathrinDernComposer fantastic, thanks in advance for that, I am looking forward to that video 🙂 A while ago, I watched another video where they explained 3 different methods to keep the music looping consistently, one of them was the "tail method"
sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I somehow forgot the login password. I love any tricks you can give me
@Lee Nico Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Hi Anne, you mention having formerly worked in Logic. Is there anywhere you discuss the transition from Logic to Cubase and how Cubase was better for your workflow?
Say you're on a project with a lower budget that doesn't allow for hiring a score mixer, do you just bypass the mixing stems process and bounce the stems with the reverb out of the original session? Thanks for all the information!
Thank you for this video! I have a question... I always put some plugins in my master track, often a Limiter (Pro L), Pro Q and a little reverb, a very subtle one. My problem is that I often add Gain in the Pro L (often between 4 and 8 dB) to louder the track. If I bounce all the stems with the Limiter enabled on the master track, and then I re-import those stems, it will peak as hell... But if I disable the Limiter (with the added gain) the result will be too quiet. I am searching for a way to export the stems and have the same result than my mix. Do you know how I can do it? Thank you :)
If you are only using some slight corrections on your master fader like me, the difference between stems and stereo reference should not be audible. But if you're using heavy limiting / compression where the threshold is an important parameter, then it's best to put those plugins onto the group stems instead of the master fader. Remember to leave some head room as well on your master fader. Mixing isn't mastering.
I'm trying to learn this, is there a basic version of this..I'm thinking stems are all the audio clips plus the formating and control for another pc to load. This is before it's mixed and mastered. So stems can be selected to use in monitor for musicians like a click track?
Anne, I see ZIPs in your folder: NEVER use ZIP for compressing. It actually changes some bits after decompressing. Use FLAC or APE. They are specialized for audio ;-) There are various discussions on the web about that problem.
I go with the industry standard of file delivery formats and this is what's being used at every studio. I have never seen anyone use FLAC or APE for professional file deliveries. Whatever bits may or may not be changed after decompressing, it has not ever been an issue on any of the 55 productions I've worked on so I assume the difference can be neglected.
Software dev here: zip compression is lossless so by definition no data can get lost in the compression/decrompression process. ScoringStageDe - I think you're getting generic file compression such as zip etc. mixed up with lossy audio compression, like mp3.
