Fiesta Texas is my favorite six flags for so many reasons. It has top notch coaster in such a compact area with BEAUTIFUL scenery you can’t get from any other park in the chain.
Fiesta Texas has been my home park my whole life, The Rattler was my first ever major coaster, and Iron Rattler was the first coaster I saw constructed before my very eyes and got to ride its opening season. This ride has absolutely changed my life, and it's so deserving of all the praise it gets. Thank you guys for making this
It has changed my life as well. I never thought that roller coasters could be this good before my first ride on it. It was also a night ride, and I had no clue that it had been renovated until the middle of the ride. The smoothness had me wondering, then the inversion was a dead giveaway. When I boarded, I thought it was still the same rough coaster I had ridden 8 years earlier.
I remember when this was your favorite RMC! It just shows how much better their later creations have gotten. Iron Rattler's first drop is still my favorite RMC drop. I'd love to see re-reviews of Lightning Rod, Twisted Colossus, Goliath, and maybe Storm Chaser.
Lightning Rod definitely needs one, that ride has changed so much since that first video. I agree with the others you mentioned too- my first rides on Storm Chaser back when that video was made was back when it wasn't running that well. I've done it many times since then were it felt completely unhinged.
I got to SFFT for a few days between Christmas and New Year Eve 2023. Late at night the park emptied out and we were cycling this ride 10 or so times until the park closed, just a fantastic experience.
I love this coaster. I have only been to Fiesta Texas a couple of times, but my sister and I have ridden it multiple times on both visits (including as our target last ride of the day). I'm a little sad the footage didn't show it, but in the summer when the river rapids ride is open, that last drop off the cliff wall takes you down towards the water before you go into the tunnel, which is an extra little something I personally loved. Thank you for including so much about the history of this great coaster in the video!
Great re-review! I grew up with Astroworld as my home park. After it's closure in 2005, I rode the original Rattler as a young adult and absolutely hated it (especially compared to Texas Cyclone!). It was beyond rough, and you could absolutely feel the structure sway side to side on your way up to the stupid helix on top of the quarry wall. I swore I'd never ride it again, and I didn't. Fast forward to December 2020 after many years of raising kids and a teaching career, I took my first ride on Iron Rattler. I was floored! I simply could not wrap my brain around just how far coaster design had progressed. It rekindled my love for coasters, and since then I have over 100 new credits and can't get enough! So it's a life changing coaster for me, and in many ways my zero coaster. I currently have it ranked #6 of all the coasters I've ridden, and my #4 RMC.
Your story is so similar to mine, including having ridden Texas Cyclone. Rattler was so horrible, but I was willing to ride it again when I returned in 2016, not knowing that it had been converted. I figured that out during the ride, but I had waited until the end of the day, not wanting to get beat up until the end. It took my love of coasters to a whole new level and never looked back. I have since ridden other coasters that might be objectively better, but none that I love more than Iron Rattler. I met a fellow enthusiast who helped me see that this is pretty much the definition of a # 1 coaster. Not necessarily the best, but the one I like the most and has had the biggest impact on me.
This was my first RMC. At first I was skeptical because I thought this idea was going to kill the wooden coaster as we know it. But this won me over very quickly. I still want woodies to stay but man is this a phenomenal coaster. The terrain use is top tier, the heaven roll is appropriately named, the first drop is on the short list for world's best drop and that quarry dive is one of the best airtime moments of all time.
I had the exact same concerns. I do wish a few lower tier conversions would've been waited on or simply been willing to invest more on the parks and budget side of things. I think we definitely could've gotten better than Twisted Cyclone, Joker RMC (other Roar needs to be better), Goliath RMC (made to be cloned originally though), or non-dueling Twisted Colossus. However, both GCI and Gravity Group have stepped up their game, kept heavily, both having solutions to improving older coasters and building great new ones innovatively. They have accepted the challenge from the competition essentially (including each other) and stayed in the spotlight.
Those slow-mo pov shots like the ones at 4:47 and 6:12 are gorgeous and relaxing to watch. A compilation of clips like that would be insanely satisfying
Love to see the "Last chance to ride before it slithers away!" sign at 3:01. Down to the exact day even. Makes me want to take that still image from here, print and frame it, then mail it to "Merger HQ" with a note that reads "Remember when you did the good people a solid before ya went all willy nilly knocking down iconic coasters no notice!?"
Fiesta Texas was not originally a Six Flags amusement park. I rode the Rattler as a kid in the OG format. When Six Flags acquired the amusement park, they reprofiled the coaster. Both the Rattler and the Texas Giant in Arlington were crazy roller coasters back in the day, that you would routinely have to wait 3 hours for in peak Texas summers. Once my kids are old enough, I look forward to revisiting these rides as an adult. Probably been 20-25 years since I was at either one.
This was the absolute highlight of my trip to Fiesta Texas back in 2023. I only got one ride on it, but it is my number 2 RMC out of the ones I’ve ridden, behind Iron Gwazi. That dive off the quarry wall is indeed the best element on the ride, and the trains look great with that snake design. I hope to get back there one day for more rides, and to get on Wonder Woman. That was sadly closed when I was there, so I didn’t get to experience my first Raptor.
It's really great they were able to resurrect this ride into something special. I like it when coasters utilise the natural landscape like that. Can't wait to ride it sometime.
I rode the original Rattler. I remember while standing in line, people were getting scared by a section of the track they were watching where it would expand and contract when the coaster went around the bend. they thought it was going to break. I had to explain to them it was built that way in order to prevent the coaster from breaking through. that bend would send the coaster out like a slingshot. I remember my right arm slamming against the inner wall of ride. I was in pain for the next week. My back also started to hurt later on that night.
This coaster was what introduced me to RMC. I was obsessed with those old Theme Park shows on the Travel Channel, and one I loved the most was called Insane Coaster Wars. They had some of my favorite internet personalities from the now defunct company RoosterTeeth (RIP) riding this.
My fav ride in the park. Im from Los Angeles and my home park is SFMM. Been living in Houston now since 2008 and let me say as a rollercoaster junkie SFFT to me is the best SIX FLAGS park right behind Magic Mountain as far as coasters go. Iron Rattler is AMAZING. That first drop kills it everytime. Its just a fun coaster from start to finish. And i havent been to SFOT and really dont plan on going as from what i see im just not enthused by anything there. Ive been to SFFT now 7 times and everytime Iron Rattler is my first ride. Ty Taylor for this updated review! ❤
Still easily my favorite RMC. It truly showcases how you can take something that looks cool and has so much potentional but simply for whatever reasoning, didn't work out. I'd say both Twisted Timbers and Wildcat's Revenge (making the OG drop the 2nd drop on the latter was brilliant) are also very fine examples of what RMC can really do for i-box conversions. When given the budget and less constraint as we've seen others shortened a bit too much or not take dueling opportunities, they come out truly brilliant. The same can also be said for the custom models.
This is so weird! I was just suggested and watched El Toro Ryan’s video on the problematic history of The Rattler yesterday. I don’t usually enjoy his videos but that one was really great. Now you have uploaded one too 😂
I rode the original rattler as a kid, and I remember getting off of it feeling like all my insides were sore from the shaking. It was my first exposure to wooden coasters, and I followed up by sticking exclusively to steel coasters for more than a decade. Ironically, Outlaw Run, another RMC, was my adult reintroduction to wooden coasters. Really excited to try the upgraded Iron Rattler eventually!
I rode Iron Rattler this past July, and was very impressed with this roller coaster. While it’s one of the older RMC’s, this coaster delivered in all categories.
The original first drop on The Rattler in 1992 is still the best and scariest first drop I’ve ever experienced, even after all these years. The rest of the ride wasn’t great, even in the first year. RMC did an awesome job bringing back a little of that original first drop.
I agree, the first drop on the ‘92 Rattler was insane. It could never get built today because the pullout at the bottom was too tight, but the way you just kept falling and falling steeper towards the ground only to pull out at the very last instant and be slammed with the high g’s at the bottom was incredible, especially in the back. Sure it caused a lot of pulled necks but man was it fun. The first time I rode IR was (of course) in the back and my first impression was wow, that was intense but over in a blink, I couldn’t believe how fast we got to the bottom. After that IR is a vast improvement over the original in every possible way.
That first zero-g roll (the heaven roll, as I've hear it called) is genuinely my favorite inversion of all-time. It's so floaty and graceful, with just a little whip. Best ride in Texas, and it's not particularly close, IMO.
I was fortunate to ride this coaster as both The Rattler (1999 and 2000) and finally The Iron Rattler (2023).... Original Rattler was....well... ROUGH with a very odd "wavy" double helix before the final drop. Also if you were waiting in the queue, you could see coaster track flex as the train goes down the second drop. When I rode Iron Rattler, it became my favorite coaster of all time. It's like night and day with this classic. I sat in the very front, but next time I will try the very back. World Class indeed ^^
To this day it’s still my favorite coaster in the park, it’s trains, layout and everything about it makes it fun any time of the day, I seriously love this ride even if isnt big stats wise compared to other RMC's
This ride was my favorite coaster for four years, but after I recently wrote lightning rod, lightning rod, even with the chain lift, it is my new favorite, but iron rattler will always hold a special place in my family.W coaster
I got to ride the Rattler before they closed it down and I personally enjoyed it. One of my friends who was further back did get whiplash. This was also my first time riding real coasters, Before Fiesta Texas I thought I would hate coasters.
This shows how special a top tier ride is on a rollercoaster. I unfortunately never got one on IR and then rode TC and thought I would be disappointed. It was 90 degrees in LA the day I rode TC though and it was running great (wish I got a dueling ride)!
My family and I visited Fiesta Texas in 1992 when it first opened (pre-SF acquisition). My dad and most of my cousins all have OG Rattler credits (I was too young at the time). I still have a very vivid memory of them coming off the ride and calling it very rough. (Rattler was the only coaster in the park at that point) Pre-RMC Rattler was still a good coaster, after all the modifications. I do miss the two-story extended double helix the top of the quarry wall. I always thought that was a very unique element that no other ride has. I understand that RMC likes their rides to be zippy, that element wouldn't quite fit in. I haven't had a chance to ride Iron Rattler yet, I always thought the walk up to the station as you go through the ride's structure was impressive and set the tone for the coaster that you're about to experience. So I hope they kept that in.
I appreciate for your review and thoughts on my hometown favorite rollercoaster. I never rode the old rattler but heard a lot of complaints about it. The Iron Rattler is a beast of a coaster in the Lone Star State.
I've been to Fiesta Texas before and after Rattler's RMC conversion, and let me tell you, it's night and day. The old Rattler was the roughest coaster I've ever ridden, to the point where you'd pop a Tylenol ahead of visiting the park if you planned on riding it. Those helices felt endless, made worse by the fact that they shook you around like you were in a dryer. RMC transformed a dud that took up a lot of space into unquestionably the best coaster in the state. That first drop and the final dive off the quarry wall are two of RMC's best drops, even if the manufacturer has built coasters I've enjoyed more since (Iron Gwazi is my #1). And the Gerstlauer trains are insanely comfortable. Endlessly re-rideable, though it's consistent popularity means that never gets to happen, and worth visiting the park for on its own-- though with the quality of Superman Krypton Coaster and Wonder Woman Golden Lasso Coaster, there are plenty more reasons to visit.
I’ve ridden this pre and post renovation and it’s like night and day better. I think this coaster is a 9 now but I believe it was a 10 when it came out because it was so revolutionary.
Yeah loved this coaster and is the only RMC I’ve been on. I did notice it slow in the mid section but loved the first drop and quarry drop. Here’s wishing we get one in the UK
This video is making me feel old but I experienced the original rattler and I remember it being totally insane. I was very young at the time and didn't ride any coasters with inversions yet but I was totally fine with wooden coasters. Boy was I scared of this thing I remember my grandfather goading me to get on this monstrosity and I think we both regretted it. I remember hanging on for dear life and having a pounding headache after. Not sure how it was after they reprofiled it. Gotta get back to try iron rattler someday.
Top 10 for me, albeit my credit count is pretty thin by serious thoosie standards. First intro to RMC and I will never forget the feeling of shock I got going over that second drop
It's a toss up between this, Wonder Woman Golden Lasso, Texas Stingray, and Boardwalk Bullet. I've changed my opinion on this many times depending on how each ride is running!
I loved this ride when I rode it about 2 years ago, its a little short but its interaction with the rock wall is just crazy. The inversion going up and the 2 giant drops down the wall are so cool. I wonder how they got the track inside the tunnel when building this.
My hot take is that Iron Rattler is better than Steel Vengeance. The way it interacts with the quarry wall is just perfect, the first drop is gnarly, and there are moments where you can actually breathe and enjoy what you’re experiencing. Didn’t eat any bugs on this ride either, which I couldn’t say when I rode Steel Vengeance at night lol
I rode the Rattler one time and it was the most painful experience I’ve ever had on a rollercoaster. I was excited to ride it because of how large and intimidating it looked. It rode awful and the layout was pretty lame, such a waste. It amazes me to this day what RMC was able to do with this ride. It felt like a miracle for my thoosie self at the time. I can never get enough of that first drop or the drop off the wall into the tunnel.
I’ve only ridden 2 RMCs and I find them both incomplete experiences, New Texas Giant (terrible name) and Iron Rattler. Iron Rattler has 3 great moments: the first drop which is one of the best, the zero g roll, and the somewhat overhyped cliff drop off the quarry. On top of the quarry wall was super slow and force less. And ends before it fully gets going. This coaster really needed a big forceful finale. 7.5/10
I rode the original, and it was terrible, maybe my least favorite coaster of all time. Now, it's probably my favorite coaster of all time. I see it as the perfect coaster. Not the longest, but long enough. Not the most airtime, but it has enough and is very strong. Not the most intense, but intense enough. It does everything well enough, that it's the most rerideable coaster I've ridden. It's my most ridden coaster of all, and by a huge margin, and I'm still waiting for the ride when I start getting tired of it. I love it more with each ride.
Hopefully RMC will still do Hybrid conversions or ground-ups - while i'm still holding out for two Canadian options, eradicating the RCCA scourge is also a necessity at this point (ground-up son of beast tribute with vertical loop?)
Love how it went from one of the worst first drops to one of the best. Also it's funny how they showed a picture of the park advertising it's last rides....☠️
the last one was in 2016 when I had only ridden the attraction a couple times, during only one visit to the park. The footage shown was also extremely poor. Since then, I've ridden the ride exponentially more times, have been up on the quarry wall multiple times to film much better, up close shots, and was also able to film on ride. It makes for a much better video!
I'll probably never experience this ride, its quite expensive to travel to the US from The Netherlands (somehow going back to The Netherlands costs way more than going to the US), I did experience Untamed, our own woody converted to an RMC, and that ride is much smaller but keeps going from start to finish.
The takeaway I got from this video: "This would actually be a great ride to introduce a younger rider into that sensation of going upside down". Well, that is a coaster enthusiast's point of having kids in the first place, right? That, and arguing with your girlfriend/wife over who's riding shotgun the kid.
Iron Rattler has the massively superior train design. Can we go back to that instead of the leg-breakers? I really don't get how they've gotten a pass, enthusiasts one thing but I am suprised some haven't lost much more popularity. I mean when you got people asking for a trim break before the ending part of Arie Force One, something is a bit off. Then again nobody complained much about the intamin pre-fab type trains either, and they were never very good, but at least they don't feel like they don't belong on large coasters. The new trains for the wild moose look like what could've been done in like 2015 let alone going into 2025. The Iron Rattler style ones are so much nicer and more comfortable, ejector airtime is great definitely shouldn't have altered the design the way they did.
I must admit, i was underwhelmed by the ride, i had heard lots of good things about it but thought it was ok. Maybe i rode it on a bad day? Cool park to visit though.
I rode this for the first time during Roller Coaster Rodeo last year and was severely disappointed. The pacing on the quarry wall was weak and both the first drop and quarry drop were overhyped. NTG and Wonder Woman are way better
the coaster reviews from that trip will more or less come out in the order of the parks we went to, so the first one will likely be Surf Coaster Leviathan
I don't know what RCCA had in mind with the helix part. Here at Terra Mitica (Spain) we have Magnus Colossus and the final part was just that, an helix with a lot of vibrations. Also, the layout was crap, I don't know why the parks trusted this company. I think all the original RCCA's will be transformed into hybrid coasters. Unfortunately, it looks like Magnus Colossus won't be RMC ed but GCI instead with their Titan Track.
I've been on some RMC's here in Europe, but don't you people have problems with the restrains? They don't fit nice. It gives me pain. You can't hold them in your hands somehow.
Hey man, I'm a huge fan. Been here for years now. Love your content. Sorry for this, but I'm kind of desperate here. I'm a youtuber as well, or at least I'm trying to be. Because of my health, I can't work a regular job so I'm trying to provide for my family. But I don't know anyone else who does youtube. I know we make much different content, but do you think I could ask you a few questions about youtube sometime? I'm sorry, but I have no one else to ask and I really respect your opinion.

Could you redo some of your reviews at Canada's Wonderland when you get there for Alpenfury?
I got to SFFT for a few days between Christmas and New Year Eve 2023. Late at night the park emptied out and we were cycling this ride 10 or so times until the park closed, just a fantastic experience.

Yeah defenetly😅
glad you enjoyed it!
Of the 7 RMCs I’ve ridden, Iron Rattler is my #2 only behind Steel Vengeance. I wish all RMCs had IRat’s trains! They are insanely comfortable
Went there once in '99 on a high school trip; all I remember from that is Rattler being rough and Joker's Revenge running backwards.

It's one of my very favorite roller coasters, so stinkin' smooth

Such a great inversion. My family and I love to ragdoll our bodies and just let it toss us around. I need to get back out to Texas to ride it again.

(Rattler was the only coaster in the park at that point)
Pre-RMC Rattler was still a good coaster, after all the modifications.
Iron rattler looks awesome! Rcca is basically rmcs playground.
Got two rides on this thing back in 2021 and it was the stand out of the park. Even got a night ride 🎉
I just watched the old review lol, love this ride
I used to live in one of those orange roofed apartment beside SFFT. Always get to see Iron Rattler’s 1st drop.
thats so cool!
My first media day! Got to give some love to the original rattler though as it was more fun than you would think.
I wish all RMCs had the same type of trains like Iron Rattler.
If you ride IR when the park open late, you could see sparks igniting in the tunnel section
Just did this! Insane airtime!
9:36 So what coaster would you consider to be your favorite in Texas then?
It's a toss up between this, Wonder Woman Golden Lasso, Texas Stingray, and Boardwalk Bullet. I've changed my opinion on this many times depending on how each ride is running!
@@CoasterStudios Makes sense
Love IRat. My favorite RMC drops are on here
I loved this ride when I rode it about 2 years ago, its a little short but its interaction with the rock wall is just crazy.
The park president has teased adding more track after the tunnel 🤞
My favorite coaster in Texas! 😃
Is iron rattler beter than untamed i have only ridden untamed but i want to do more hybrides
Love how the roughest wooden coaster was named the "rattler"
do you prefer the RMC raptor or the Ibox?
I rode the Rattler one time and it was the most painful experience I’ve ever had on a rollercoaster. I was excited to ride it because of how large and intimidating it looked. It rode awful and the layout was pretty lame, such a waste.
It amazes me to this day what RMC was able to do with this ride. It felt like a miracle for my thoosie self at the time. I can never get enough of that first drop or the drop off the wall into the tunnel.
I was fully expecting to be slow down after before the first drop so when I went right over I was shocked
7.5/10
My #1
I rode the original, and it was terrible, maybe my least favorite coaster of all time.
Hey Taylor, was this a re-review?
If so, when did the original review come out?
this is, yes! the original one was in 2016 after I had only experienced the ride a couple of times, and didn't have very good footage of it.
Hopefully RMC will still do Hybrid conversions or ground-ups - while i'm still holding out for two Canadian options, eradicating the RCCA scourge is also a necessity at this point (ground-up son of beast tribute with vertical loop?)
I would love to have experiences the original Rattler when it had the crazier drop, it probably hurt though.
i ❤iron rattler
Love how it went from one of the worst first drops to one of the best. Also it's funny how they showed a picture of the park advertising it's last rides....☠️
Haven’t you already done a iron rattler review not complaining though
Maybe he wanted to do an updated version? Add more info? Changed his opinion?
@ 👌
the last one was in 2016 when I had only ridden the attraction a couple times, during only one visit to the park. The footage shown was also extremely poor. Since then, I've ridden the ride exponentially more times, have been up on the quarry wall multiple times to film much better, up close shots, and was also able to film on ride. It makes for a much better video!
@@CoasterStudios 👍
I rode the original, it was ridiculously rough. It was an slc^2
Best ride in the state
That coaster is massive. Yk what else is massive?
Rough? Wait for Montezum at hopi Hari in Brazil 😅🇧🇷 it is a chiropratic ride for backs lol
Joker has a twisted drop too, not just rattler
I'll probably never experience this ride, its quite expensive to travel to the US from The Netherlands (somehow going back to The Netherlands costs way more than going to the US), I did experience Untamed, our own woody converted to an RMC, and that ride is much smaller but keeps going from start to finish.
Best coaster in Texas.
The takeaway I got from this video:
"This would actually be a great ride to introduce a younger rider into that sensation of going upside down".
Taylor, I thought that Mean Streak was the worst wooden roller coaster. Did you ride Mean Streak before RMC got ahold of it?
I did! I was not a fan of it haha. Only rode it maybe twice before it closed.
Did you rereview NTG
Yes, it is already up on the channel!
this drop is right behind millennium force on my list
I must admit, i was underwhelmed by the ride, i had heard lots of good things about it but thought it was ok.
Maybe i rode it on a bad day?
Cool park to visit though.
Iron Gwazi says hold my beer.....
How many RCCAs are left? Yes, you know exactly where I'm going with this. 😜
I rode this for the first time during Roller Coaster Rodeo last year and was severely disappointed. The pacing on the quarry wall was weak and both the first drop and quarry drop were overhyped. NTG and Wonder Woman are way better
From one of the worst coasters ever made to one of the best. RMC nailed it
What will be the first Asian coaster review
the coaster reviews from that trip will more or less come out in the order of the parks we went to, so the first one will likely be Surf Coaster Leviathan
Where’s the top 25😢
I've been on some RMC's here in Europe, but don't you people have problems with the restrains? They don't fit nice. It gives me pain. You can't hold them in your hands somehow.
UNDER 10 MIN GANG, Also, Hello 👋
Hey man, I'm a huge fan. Been here for years now. Love your content. Sorry for this, but I'm kind of desperate here. I'm a youtuber as well, or at least I'm trying to be. Because of my health, I can't work a regular job so I'm trying to provide for my family. But I don't know anyone else who does youtube. I know we make much different content, but do you think I could ask you a few questions about youtube sometime? I'm sorry, but I have no one else to ask and I really respect your opinion.
Alaaaaaaaaan!!!!!
Luigi is innocent
Visited in 1994 and it was closed :(
Hybrids>>>>>
Sadly the rattler still dangerous because there's always a behive in the tunnel
Bite your tongue. The original rattler is legendary.
I hate RMC trains - the shinguards are so uncomfortable - so that's a big plus for Iron Rattler.
