      Carmelita Cruz Except no. Isildur was no pushover. He had literally just defeated Sauron. What makes you think Elrond is just going to be able to throw him over the edge? Not to mention Isildur had the Ring with him, which would’ve made him even stronger. And remember, the Ring had a will of its own, and would’ve helped Isildur kill Elrond, since, you know, it obviously doesn’t want to be destroyed. The reason we don’t see the Ring make anyone super powerful in the trilogy is because hobbits themselves aren’t powerful creatures, which is why it is a hobbit that is chosen to take the Ring to Mordor.

      1. The Fellowship's only, only, advantage over Sauron is stealth and riding an Eagle into Mordor would waste it.
      2. Sauron has like four hundred ways of dealing with airborne enemies. He doesn't even need to use Nazguls or magic, just Orc archers would do.
      3. Eagles are Maiar and thus the odds of them just splatting Frodo somewhere on the way and taking the Ring is 99%.
      4. The War of the Ring is Eru's test for humanity to unite and stand on their own against Sauron. If the wizards are forbidden to use their full power, then so are the Eagles, who are also Maiar.

He has lived for HUNDREDS, if not thousands of years by that point. Now we have Isildur. Guy wielding a broken sword and yes, one of the Numenorans. He has none of the skill and talent accrued over time as Elrond. Now Elrond has an elven bow. And elven arrows. Guess what elves masters at. Making weapons and such. Now picture Elrond firing his bow into Isildur's chest and Isildur crumpling into a heap and the Ring falling into Mt. Doom.

      Murder only applies if his intent is to kill Isildur. Not, you know, destroy the ring that ends up almost destroying the world because Isildur lost his damn mind. Although the ring can corrupt someone without them ever even touching it (Boromir case in point) but that was over months of traveling with Frodo. Isildur had only had the ring for a few minutes. I very much doubt Elrond would've been so corrupted in a few minutes he would've killed Isildur only to steal the ring for himself.

      Actually, take it from a person who has actually read Silmarillion and the LotR books, the eagles and their lord Gwaihir are actually not on the Free People of Middle Earth's side, just like the maiar ( beings of light or Wizards basically - Gandalf/Saruman). They are not neutral, but they are not siding with middle earth's inhabitants unless they feel honor-bound (as seen in War in the North with Beleram) or if they are connected/allies (Gwaihir and Gandalf especially). Thus, The eagles were only in middle earth to spy on Elrond's elves who were deemed the most knowledgeable of elves and on their enemy Morgoth, A.K.A Sauron's master before he was cast down. They didn't have any responsibility in ensuring the ring's destruction and so, Gandalf and Elrond knew that they could not ask Gwaihir and his Great eagles for help in their quest. So, they sent the Fellowship to do so, with Gandalf guiding them. The only reason Gandalf is helping the free people of middle earth is because he has grown attached to them (Especially the Hobbits) while Radagast has grown fond of the nature, the Red and blue wizard are off to god knows where (The valar sent five Maiar to Middle earth) and Saruman usually kept to himself and spoke sometimes with leaders of other races such as the ents and the elves.

    • @ragestark2203
      @ragestark2203 10 лет назад +1

      *****
      Check your facts better mate; It's a blue and a red wizard, not two blue wizards. They were always of different colours, remember? Gandalf the Grey, Saruman the white (Later "Of many colours" when serving Sauron), radagast the brown and the two mentioned as Blue and Red. Points on remembering their names though. Like I said, they were sent to spy on Morgoth and the exiled Noldors (The clan of elves Elrond belongs to), but of course they helped in the war against Morgoth. However, they are not on anyone's side but the Valars and some of the Maiar (Gandalf and Radagast), but they are not so willing to help the free people of middle earth since that is/was not their main "objective/quest", if you will, in middle earth. Correct, the fumes posed a problem, but even so, Gwaihir and his great eagles would still not have helped them since it wasn't their quest to complete for them. No idea why they joined in the last battle at the Gates of Mordor, but I would assume that they saw that there was a great opportunity for Sauron to be vanquished and thus, they helped for once.

    Why Eagles weren't used: Sauron is a Great, lidless eye, weathered in flame that could see the eagles coming for miles. He would have planned a trap for them long before they got there.
    Now what could have been done to prevent any of this, Elrond slaps Isildur, take the ring, and throw it in himself.

    LOTR does not have plot holes. Eagles were race not just like birds, they could only be summoned by Gendalf because he did a favor for them in the past and they would help just for the save, but not like a transport. besides the ring would effect eagle (because its not animal, like a pony who does not understand good and evil). Eagles had intelligence and they could even talk. Riding eagle with the ring would turn into disaster, because he could get corrupted by Sauron

    read the books, Mordor was constantly overhung with a pyroclastic cloud of volcanic ash ,gas and smoke, and storms. Sauron controlled the weather and Volcanoes in Mordor. He kept in that way so it would always be dark (in the shadow) there , so his orcs could travel during the day. The eagles could not fly though the volcanic cloud and storms.
    Only after he died were the eagles able to fly to Mt Doom and save the hobbits.

      it might have served everyone better if the eagles where never shown in the movies. In Hobbit they rescued the team once, in LOTR they didn't do very much. They were a race of Maiah and were not placed in Middle Earth to take sides. Manweh (the main Valar) put them in Middle Earth as overseers, mostly because the Valar (aside from Ulmo and Melkor aka Morgoth or Sauron's original master - the Valar didn't really care about Middle Earth).

    Can anyone not realise that Mordor at the time of the fellowship was swarming with orcs had a gigantic eye atop of a tower constantly searching for the ring or even waiting to feel its presence, and people think a giant eagle wouldn't go unnoticed if it were to just fly on in. The orcs would know of the eagles approach several miles before even reaching the black gates and would be trying to take it down. The only reason the eagles rescued Frodo in Mordor at the end of the third movie was because there was no longer an Immanent treat of being there once Sauron was destroyed. I mean yes there was a possibility of success getting a lift from the eagles but they would not risk it as it was basically a suicide mission. This is the reason Frodo needed to approach by foot as they suspected Sauron would never expect an attack from there, and they were right.

    Gandalf said he had a plan right from the start, and kept it from everyone else to stop the plan being known by Sauron if one of the fellowship was captured and interrogated. If you look on the map of Middle Earth, Gandalf was actually taking the fellowship to the mountains where the eagles lived - he planned on doing exactly what this video shows.
    Here's where it gets crazy: Gandalf had to take refuge in the underground caves in order to escape the snow storm the evil fella (whose name I don't remember), whilst down there he had to fight the big fiery thing, and when he was losing, he realised he was the only one to know the plan involving the eagles. When he fell and grasped onto the last piece of bridge, before falling he looks intensely at the fellowship and says "FLY YOU FOOLS", in an effort to let the fellowship know the plan of taking the eagles to Mordor... only the fellowship never caught on, and so they continued with the only plan they'd ever known; to take the ring to Mordor.

      I taught his plan was to send a ring bearer, (which just so happened to be a hobbit....again) secretly into Mordor along with the fellowship as protection, but this plan got ruined with the devision of the fellowship and his death. You have to remember Sauron did know of a fellowship on a quest but as to what the quest was he was unaware. Fly is just another acronym for flee, run, get away.

    The behaviour of the eagles reminded me of a harry potter quote: "Help will always be given at hogwarts to those who deserve it." That's how the eagles always behaved. I never saw them take commands. They provided help to those that deserved it the most. That's why they saved Frodo at the end and why they saved Gandalf and Thorin. They kind of appear just in time to tip the balance. They're not there to fight someone else's battles. They only get involved in the desperation of the deserving...not as a means of transportation.

He helps them only when they are in grave danger and there is no other way. Inform yourselves on the lore. I understand this video was purely made as a joke, but people truly dislike the movie because they always say "why didnt they just ride the eagle the entire way, stupid movie!"

      dawgyv72 That was uncalled for. Really. I'm not lazy to Google it, I'm just not that interested in learning more of LoTR but since this eagle loophole thing and Gandalf always missing when the party needs him bugs me, I thought someone that understands LoTR like you could summarize it for me. But no. Looks like you don't understand it yourself.

    Average Movie-Watcher: Oh yeah, they could have just used the eagles! Wow Gandalf, good job.
    Average Ringer: NONONONONONO!!! WHAT THE LEMBAS NO JUST NO! Like, Gwaihir was *not* Gandalf's pet! That's just like a Dwarf asking a Man if they could ride on their back or something!!! The eagles only let them ride on them since they owed Gandalf a debt! They wouldn't just... And have you ever even heard of the Nazgúl?! Duh?! And the orcs have longbows and cannons and... ARRGHHH.OH MY ELBERETH. _Pe channas..._

    There is a good explanation as to why they DIDN'T use the eagles. I am pretty sure it was something like if they got the ring they might go bad, kind of like how Gandalf will not touch the ring. The eagles are already super powerful in the books and are on the level as Gandalf in the whole god scale thingy.

    Sauron: Shit

    Well... I know this is all for comedic purposes but for those that didn't know... Sauron was a Maia, he knew about the existence of the Giant Eagles same as Gandalf... You only need to look at the Nazgúl and their Felbeasts to know that flying over a land filled with toxic smoke, orcs shooting from below AND Felbeasts harassing the eagles that it would just be impossible.

    • @MrRyanMcNeal

    • @Blackjax137
      @Blackjax137 10 лет назад +18

      What did the first line of my statement say? "I know this is for comedic purposes." I was simply saying that the Eagles dropping the ring into Mt. Mordor would be impossible, which people without any knowledge of the LOTR universe seem to think otherwise.
      And yes, I am a nerd. I take pride in that I know more about things than others. Don't even get me started on Star Wars.
      So, your comment has just be countered twice... What you going to do now, troll?

      Uuuuuh, really? R u serious??? Would it be fun to read the books then? Would it be a good movie? In middle-earth there wasn't POSSIBLE to just "take an eagle" and go to mount doom! They lived their own lives in the misty mountains, there would've been NO CHANCE for the fellowship to travel by eagles, believe me... But I know, it's confusing...
