I wanted to comment on the "Ella Gets Glasses" video but the comments are turned off. I'm a retired optician and I am guessing that Ella is somewhere between 10 and 12 years old. That's about the age she appears to me and that's also when many girls her age gets their first glasses. I know I fitted several hundred with their first glasses that were about that were in that age group. Here's why that is. girls tend to go through a growth spurt around that age. Growth spurts also effects the eyes because it often lengthen the eyes, nothing that is visible to look at her eyes, but that lengthening results in myopia, otherwise known as nearsightedness. Nearsighted is the most common compared to farsightedness. I would say that the average is about 6 or 7 that are nearsighted compared to jus one being farsighted. I assume Ella only has a weak prescription so she was probably told to wear them as needed. Meaning anything at a distance she should wear her glasses for. I have to assume that you must wear glasses mom because you were well aware of how much difference her glasses were going to make once she was outside in open spaces. You even pointed out how much better she would see the mountains in the distance through her glasses. She was clearly surprised by the difference her glasses made with her ability to see things and that was without her eyes even having a chance to adjust to her glasses. Things have probably gotten even clearer for her she has been wearing her glasses. She should have noticed the biggest difference after wearing her glasses for several hours and then taking them off. That's when things were much more blurry to her without her glasses than ever before. This video I believe was likely just after she got her glasses and she was getting used to wearing glasses and her eyes adjusting to her glasses. Based on this video she didn't seem to be having an problem adjusting to her glasses. I only saw her push push glasses up once and its possible that she might need them adjusted slightly because they did appear to wanting to slide down her nose. The better glasses fit and feel the more she will be wearing them when she needs them. Please tell Ella I think she looks really cute wearing her glasses too.

You are right. I had an experience similar to Ella where I had to get glasses in my teen years. I eventually had LASIK surgery as an adult.
