- Опубликовано: 13 июл 2024
- It's recently been the longest day of the year so we thought we’d set ourselves the challenge of riding our bikes from dawn to dusk! With Stonehenge being a monument built with the Summer Solstice in mind, we decided to recreate the route that the famous stones took from Pembrokeshire! Can we make it to Stonehenge before the sun sets? ☀️

What is the biggest ride you've ever done? 🚴♂
Only 176 km. This ride of yours is brutal and very impressive!
350 km last May
Multi day the TransAmerica trans continental route between 3500 to 4k miles. Single day is Ironman Arizona.
Haha, 13:26 James begins to worry he’s not got the legs for the journey, as a hearse pulls round the corner!
😬
History, epic ride, beautiful scenery, fantastic timing. GTN you have really outdone yourselves with this one. 😎❤
Thanks!
Pedaling through the countryside green,
Mark, Heather, and James on the scene.
Cycling towards Stonehenge with delight,
To witness the solstice shine so bright.
Cycling down the winding road,
Toward Stonehenge they go,
Summer solstice in their sights,
The sun is set to glow.
Mark leads the way with a steady pace,
Heather follows with a smile on her face,
James brings up the rear with a steady grace,
Together they cycle to this sacred place.
With each pedal stroke they draw near,
To witness the magic of the year,
The sun sets and rises anew,
A cycle that never ends, it's true.
Arriving at their destination,
The ancient stones stand in celebration,
The journey complete, their spirits uplifted,
Cycling to Stonehenge, a memory gifted.
Mark, Heather, and James, a trio of friends,
Together on this journey that never ends.
Cycling to Stonehenge, a memory to keep,
Of a summer solstice they'll forever reap.
Wow.👏
Say whaaaaat/comment of the week right there. ❤
Incredible stuff

Loved this video! Gorgeous scenery! I also appreciate their honesty when they were struggling. As athletes/competitors, it is hard to call it quits at any time. Even if it’s the best thing to do for yourself.
I always love seeing epic rides on the Summer Solstice. GCN inspired me a few years back, and I ended up doing my first 322km(200mile) ride, this year I did 406km. Grats to you doing it on so little cycling training, and thanks for a wonderful video!
Awesome work!
Smart bike choice Heather😊
You three are amazing and so fun!! It is so inspirational to see you push your limits, BUT equally inspiring to see you be smart and call it a day- the right choice is almost always the harder choice. Sending well wishes from North Carolina,USA!
Stopping when you need to stop is preventing injury and burnout. We need to normalize that! It is part of the fitness journey. Knowing what the borders are and shifting them just a little bit has training effect, but going beyond has the absolute opposite effect.
Humble brag at 19:02, Bonts, nice....
What a fun trip! I didn't know Stonehenge lined up on the solstice that's wild.
Great job everyone! That's so far
Spinal Tap(ping) out the KMs there, nice one team!
Amazing ride you guys!! Bravo!
Enjoyed that thanks. Well done James for sticking with it so long.
Well done all of you! Amazing effort.
Heather, amazed me once again, but should I be amazed after that incredible un-fueled iron man?
Great job!!! Excellent video!
Great vid ,mark, heather,James a great challenge and some nice countryside to enjoy, the mini Stonehenge great idea 🤩
Super video. Well done team!
Epic! Well done!
Congratulations Team GTN! That is a chunky day out!😊
Great work! What a distance and congrats to all 3 of you, even of James didn’t make it until the end. If you are on a recreational path with family, time is limited and you always have to compromise training, if that even happens. Therefore: super well done! It’s funny that seeing people suffer is fun. Sorry for that…
Hahaha no need to say sorry! We enjoy suffering really... sometimes!
Excellent work excellent video & James gonna be looking for next challenge
Beautiful video: I always wanted to go on an epic ride like this one, but finding intrepid cyclists is very hard... Congratulations guys!
Super hilarious the enthusiasm by Heather and James, before the ride!
Awesome team love these rides a nice early morning ride very nice quiet and cooler
Well done, you two ( great video) ( love to James, no shame in giving up )
Wow what an epic ride.. 😃🚴🏻 well done guys.. Chapeau 😊😊
Thanks! 😃
Your content is fantastic. Keep up the great work. This video was super enjoyable.
Thanks - that means a lot to us 🙌
More videos like this please! Fantastic. And what a cool journey to re-enact
What should we do next? 🤔
What an awesome and cool video it is. Love it
the love between the 3 of you is immense, love it 🤩
Well done!! Epic
Wow amazing, that is some ride 👏
GTN is the new TopGear
Amazing! The three of you should be proud. Epic adventures and memories to last a lifetime I'm sure 🎉
We won't forget this day out for a while! Would you like to see more epic challenges soon? 👀
@@gtn oh heck yeah! Great work to all the team!
I’m starting my adventures into attempting a sub 30 5km. Feel scary honestly to keep up the paces I need to keep right now.
Excellent!
Awesome video!
Lovely music and lovely backdrop!
Top work! Looks like a great day
It was worth everyone being very tired the next day in the office 😂 Would you like to see us do more challenges like this in the future? 👀
All kidding aside awesome job everyone. Made my lunch feel like an adventure.
Epic ride, well done. I think the stones were transported by sea, following the Egyptian method on the Nile. You'll have to swim it next time!
Brilliant
Brutal - and it’s all in the heat - give it a cooler day and you’d have all been good …
I did the vatternrundan in Sweden a few weeks ago, 312km, by far the longest ride I’ve ever done, and absolutely loved every minute of it 😀💙
I just did a mere 56km and already feel dead, can't imagine how you guys must have felt after that!
56km is still great Are you looking to push those limits soon? 👀
@@gtn I am, but I'm trying to find a solution for the massive headache or 3-4 hours of sleep I need to recover afterwards! Used to do more than that, but that was more than 25 years ago and still suffered from headaches or needed to sleep to recover from the ride.
You guys are awesome, all three of you. No shame in dnf at all James.
Wow. 😮
Congrats for finishing both of you. My longest ride was back in the 80s when I had fitness, but no GPS and a bike nearer 11kg than 6.9!
Anyway I lived in Swindon and decided on a whim to ride to Weston-Super-Mare and back in a day, whcih with a route planned on an old fashioned map, should have been 134 miles. Anyway, I taped some directions to my stem, filled my pockets with bananas and chocolate and set out.
All fairly ok, only went wrong once on the way there, and on arrival at the seafront my bike computer read 68 miles ridden. had a cursory look at the sea, filled my pockets and bottles back up and set off for home. Which was when it went wrong.
I was fairly certain I was off course when I started riding up the cheddar gorge, which if you have an even slightly better grasp of geography than me you'll know is not on route between W-S-M and Swindon, well not the quickest way anyway.
With my bike computer saying over 150miles ridden, I later rode through a small village and saw a shop, so i thought I'd get directions to make sure I was on course.
My face must have said it all, cos after telling me I still had just over 30 miles still to go, the shopkeeper not only gave me some free chocolate and drinks, but also offered me the use of their telephone to request a parental lift. Which I gladly accepted. So, my longest ride was 152.6 miles, and I've never once regretted getting picked up and not doing the remaining 30!
Sounds a pretty epic day and a brilliant story to share 😂 You've not been tempted to try it again?
@@gtn oh I’d love to have anything like the fitness to contemplate it, unfortunately age and countless injuries have hampered that!
Any school kid who lives within about 30 miles of Stonehenge can be sure of a school trip there. In the 1970s when I went, we could climb all over the stones and eat our sandwiches there. Reminds me of TopDeck limeade and lager 2% as our refreshment option 😁
Really enjoyed it, your pain came across and interesting on ebike. Just wonder if solar charging will come or if a DIY solution out there. Suspect power greatly exceeds charge rate. Found due to thier weight on flats you can catch them up on normal bike. Great challenge and achievement
I'm very shocked how much they struggled. Thats a pretty short distance for an epic cycling challenge. 200miles on a bike is doable. But i could never run a marathon. I was expecting runners with some bike experience to nail this one.
Loved it … so who else went to get coffee when James mentioned it ? 😂
that was a long long ride.
Really puts it in to perspective when you see races like Milano San Remo being completed in under 6 1/2 hours for the same distance and how much stronger the pros are.
Did you have to ride back home in the dark?
Well done guys!
Ironman wales is your next challenge 😅
Just fantastic 😀 well done all of you.
Such a cool idea looking for this historical inspired route. Going to check out some for myself now 🙂
Nice! Let us know if you give one a go! 🙌
@@gtn Sure :-)
Seriously impressive from all of you guys, I'm a pretty good and active cyclist and the longest ride I've ever done was 250km and that was hard so props to you, got a 300km from Bristol in 2 weeks so that'll be interesting
Good luck! 🙌
What computer are you using? I'd like to avoid it for one that can stop me missing turns..
Thanks
I used to do Everesting on the summer solstice day (or the nearest weekend). Not in last 2 or 3 years though and I'm certainly not in shape to do it this year. But maybe after a year of training if I can find the motivation... Anybody willing to join me?
😅
That’s one way to lose a stone (apologies to the metric viewers)
Don't get too irrational for views only
