When my Mom passed in 2009 I took a few weeks off to sort things out, and when I returned this song was a regular song on our work playlist. Hearing it today, It still deeply resurrects the feeling of loss I felt back then. I know that's not what the song is about, its the way it relates to me.
I favourited this song when the line "a brown-headed stranger with a five-letter name" came up ONLY to realize later that "he" has more than five letters in his name. So much for arithmetics.

i love this song!! but i think that part after 'flight' is, "i met someone walking in a park by the lake" cuz i dont think she'd be in her car and talking to a jogger or something. haha :D
And I thought it was "My cheese spread like fire engines racing" :) . I originally disagreed with the person who said the lyrics weren't clear, but I'm starting to agree. STILL a wonderful song, and most other songs out there have lyrics that are way less decipherable than this.
I think that one in everybody's life, everyone will understand and go through the message this song conveys. It is a beautiful and meaningful song. I love A Fine Frenzy! She really knows how to write a good song!

@hollowfeeling Not sure how that really differs from my interp except that mine extends into the following summer, when she's still naive enough to think her romance MIGHT last longer than just the summer, as she wonders whether the bird will fly in circles (return to her) or just fly away. Not sure she's completely ok with losing the first guy, though, since she compares the 2nd guy to the first and he doesn't stack up.
