I'm really happy to see D1 is still kicking with a fairly healthy community. I hate to see games like this get abandoned, especially when the charm of the first game is much better than the sequel's imo It's like that with Titanfall. Titanfall 1 had an amazing tone and art direction, but the sequel stole the spotlight and the directors just so happened to take on a more generic and out there style, leaving the old game in the dust. I really wish D1 would come to PC. It deserves to have a new life. I wouldn't even care about restarting. I wouldn't mind going back and replaying everything.
I miss this game so so so much. People who didn’t play destiny 1 in its hay day seriously missed out. Destiny 1 will always hold a special place in my heart. Although destiny 2 doesn’t feel the same I’m happy destiny is still alive and doing well. I loved being a little kid and teaching grown ups how to raid. It’s nice to see unknown player still playing this game from time to time. I remember watching him back in the day. Have a good day everyone!
I really miss my clan we had back then, so damn helpful, everyone was always trying to raid or pvp, 3-6 man raids, multiple groups running it. It was so awesome to have that type of group, to everyone that was in that clan and are also like that, hope y'all are alive and well. What a game this was. Almost shed a tear while smoking, hit me in the feels, like a gut punch, knowing the outcome.
I felt strikes were more creative in D1. Loved the one where you fight the hive in a pitch black room. Also loved the design of Oryx’s ship environment. Super cool. These open planet environments just don’t have the same vibe.
@@nunobernardoqc exactly I wish there was a heroic strike playlist in d2 I played strikes for hours I loved playing them changing my set up once a week due to certain burns so fun for mw
Destiny 2 is definitely way more beautiful. I was a Destiny 1 player who didnt start till Lightfall recently, and wow they nail environment design. Id honestly much rather look around and see every little corner of these strikes than actually battle through them tbh. Too bad everyone is already bored out of their mind with them so we got speedrunners trying to beat it in record time. I find it a bit of a shame that there hasnt been any memorable moments in D2 strikes gameplay wise.
Destiny 1 looks better than d2 for some reason. From a purely technical perspective d2 is better I suppose but there is something about the textures and the lighting in d1 that makes it look soooo good. Especially the weapons for whatever reason the details just seem better.
I feel like part of it is also nostalgia. There is something about the charm of some of the locations in Destiny 1 that I really like though. The dreadnaught can’t be beat in design but Europa in Destiny 2 is also stunning.
@@michaelcrosby7035 I actually think the dreaming city is the most beautiful location. I’m talking about the graphical engine itself the way it renders textures and lighting, it’s more stylized almost and it gives destiny 1 a different and imo superior look overall.
The lighting I think has something to do with the way atmospheric effects r handled and the way light shines though it like fog, cloud cover ect seems more natural to me. The lighting also seems to more strongly place its colour onto the object it shines onto without all that colour being reflected like it would be in D2 as a while glow.
I think it’s mostly nostalgia, it looked almost cartoony. D2 definitely lets the skyboxes, environment, and art design shine. Some of the views you get in destiny 2 are just jaw dropping and are unmatched really. But I think an upgrade is still needed eventually as modern games graphically are next level compared to d2 at this point.
Will never forget 1st time Raid in D1. Completing the Echoes going to a hidden chest and first ever Raid Chest greets me with a Gjallahorn, sadly not in Year 1 when it wasnt as Broken anymore but still powerful enough to make me feel good :)
Watching you play D1 reminded me of why I spent 36 days playing this between year 1 and 2. And 15 in year 3. I feel like I only play D2 now for the hope I can get a taste of the feeling I got playing D1. Sadly it’s just not it, there’s so much I just forgot I missed from D1.
I really felt like D2 was way too complicated and didn't have a goal for me in comparison to D1 where I've spent 1000 hours on. Everything was just so much more straight forward and was just good gameplay instead of having to google what to build and what weapons to get. And how to unlock the things you need. It was just much more simple which I liked much more than what they did in D2.
One of the reasons i never got into D2. Just felt so complicated for no reason. I dont knw how to get any good weapons without youtubing. The only exotic ive ever grinded for was the sleeper simulant and it felt nothing like D1. Grinding on D1 was so much fun but on D2 it feels like a goddamn chore. And then they came with the whole seasons of this and that shit. And then that just did it for me. Stopped playing
Memba? I memba. Nah but seriously nostalgia is only as effective as your obliviousness too it. It clouds your judgement and makes you head over heels for something. Goldeneye 64 is the greatest example. Objectively it's poorly aged, subjectively it's the greatest fps to ever exist. Rivaled only by Halo 1 but honestly I think Goldeneye is more beloved as just pure nostalgia and rose tinted glasses.
Man, oh man, I remember soloing a Level 24 Cerberus Vae III Nightfall in Dark Below, with a Icebreaker I purchased from Xur, and a Payback SOS lol. I forget what my heavy weapon was, but I know it was a blue, as was most of my armor lol. I struggled for an hour and ten minutes but I finally beat it
I’ve the same story. Remember the strike that ended with a massive vex hydra down in a pit? Every time that thing cycled into the nightfall on year 1, I’d try to solo it with Icebreaker. I only managed it a single time, but damnit it felt good to finally get it after hiding behind the cheese wall for so long.
Bring it back. My wife just started playing destiny 2 with me and watching some of the classic videos with a new character was so good. The whole mars scene as it starts to rain and the freaking music. Good stuff
When remembering crucible games and strikes that me and clan mates loved, sometimes I'll get D1 and D2 mixed up. Thank you for this, it's so weird for me to get a bit emotional when remembering this game but i was playing at a time when this game and the freinds I met on there was all I had to cope with a less than satisfactory life I had. 👌💖
D1 by far i wanna say has the best community i was ever apart of made wonderful friends and met great people on the app and in game the raids were just by far one of my favorite things especially nightfall the pvp to pve ratio in the game was great too cant believe it’s been over 5 years since i’ve played it for the first time renting the game off redbox
For me its the D1 mood and graphics.. Destiny still felt gritty, cruel and had that cruel, grim and merciless dark vs light vibe going. The graphics were much more "realistic" and a bit darker too. D2 just feels like a damn marvel movie or toon show nowadays. Guardians are damn mystical fairies or just look goofy. I actually cant take it seriously anymore at times, and jeez.. The D1 Armor design was _Aeos_ ahead of D2.
I compare D2 to steven universe since there's this world ending threat looming in the distance, but we get endless filler leading up to the actual story.
Yes! One of my first criticisms of D2 that has stood the test of time is it feels like they took D1 and just put this glossy, glittery filter over the whole game.
I've always had a love/hate relationship with Destiny. I played D1 on launch and loved the gameplay. The feeling of the weapons themselves, was so satisfying. The movement, the use if abilities and supers. Every had a great feeling to it. The graphics were incredible. The lighting specially, is still impressive today. The soundtrack was remarkable. I got goosebumps the first time the Vex' theme played and it's still among my favorites. There was a lot of potential with the lore. How wonderful and mysterious it could be, if properly inserted into the game. But... The campaign was so boring. By the time I've finished it, I was relieved. The missions revolved around going from A to B, hack something with your ghost, fight hordes of enemies and get kicked out of the world. A lot of the bosses where just big, fancy versions of normal enemies. A lot of quests were very repetitive and the fact you had to go with your sparrow, through the same path countless times just to get to the point where the mission started, was so annoying. I ended up losing access to the game on my PS4 and never got to play the expansions. I also never had friends to play with, let alone 5 to play raids. Then D2 got out and, initially, it looked like an improvement. The start of the campaign looked like a proper campaign. I was fooled into believing we were gonna get a coherent solo/co-op mode, driven by the story. Making use of the beautifully written lore. With a sense of progression, more meaningful connections with the characters. Whoever, D2 campaigns suffer from the same issues. It feels like a bunch of repetitive side-quests with some hard to understand cutscenes in between. The vanguard modes are fun, but they lack dynamism. They are just recycled missions with zero variety. The farming/grinding is way too abusive and annoying. Not to mention the amount of money you have to spend, if you don't want to get hit by a pay wall every five minutes. (Every single expansion, with the exception of The Witch Queen, is poorly rated on steam.) The PvP is a mess. Half the matches end in "mercy". There's not even a shadow of balancing. And don't get me started with the whole "vault" bullshit. It's just inexcusable to remove paid content. I don't care why. I get tons of hate everytime I criticize the negative aspects of the franchise. Even though the hate fails to address the arguments. But if a community is as complacent as Destiny's is, the quality will only decline and the abusive pricing practices will only get worse and compromise Destiny 3, the same way it did with D2.
Paid $60 for D2 pre-order when it came out. The entire story and all of the original content i paid for has now been either vaulted or turned into a joke with the game become a free to play service. D2 dropped the ball so hard when it comes to respecting og players.
I'm here on this video in this comment section because I forgot that I apparently bought Destiny 1 back when I got a PS4. It was crazy seeing it there and I'd never thought about it since. So I downloaded it and apparently had The Taken King as well. I remembered buying Expansion 1 and 2, but not Taken King, specifically that was what drove me off Destiny 1. Like a week after I bought it they dropped TK and the whole meta shifted and my friend at the time was more into Warframe so we ended up over there. We got Destiny 2, however, when it was free on PS+ and we dug into it hard. We did everything the base game had, maxed out, started farming legendaries and exotics, even bought the Expansion 1 and 2 for THAT one as well. We decided to step aside and play other things after a month or two of going hardcore at that and maybe see if the new expansion would go on sale. Before that happened though, Bungie announced that Destiny 2 would be vaulting content. It immediately killed our interest in Destiny 2. Like, fucking instantly we stopped giving a shit about getting the expansions on sale or at all. Knowing that content we had to pay for would just VANISH was stupid. So now I'm back on Destiny 1, doing The Taken King, which I've not done before, and I'm seriously wondering how Destiny 2 ended up the COMPLETE shit show it is now. I'm almost wondering if Activision wasn't right in only making a game with a couple of big expansions before making a sequel. I'd rather they do that than "vault" content people paid for.
Yeah man I don't know if it's just the lighting or depth of field, but D1 looks overall better than D2 as far as graphics and it's always blown my mind.
D2 isn't the same game. I think it's quite clear with the musical direction, art style, and overall tonal shift that D2 isn't the game a lot of veterans fell in love with. It was always D1. D1 was more fantasy than Sci-fi, and I think it really shows in overall armor design and world lighting between the two games.
Ahh. I can remember when you were the first destiny youtouber i watched. It was a nlb trials video i believe. In fact that was so long ago that i couldnt even speak english back than. And by watching you, you teached me english :D
As someone who has never played the original, I really wish D2 had the enemy visual variety that D1 had. A lot of the enemies looked really cool. Where as in D2 the most variety you'll see on normal enemies is with the Vex. There's also the really cool D1 armor designs (and other cosmetics), the fact that Sparrows weren't made of shattered glass, and the Sparrow horns. Edit: also I kind of prefer the lighting in a lot of areas.
I didn't expect to miss so much from D1. The thing I miss the most is strike specific loot. I would grind hours for those holo psion(?) cloaks for the hunter lol
Cryptic dragon and vision of confluence will always hold a special place in my heart being my first legendary, and my first raid legendary respectively
0:45 YES! I've been asking for at least sparrow horns. I miss my Taken horn as well as my Rubber Ducky horn! Just bring back SRL once a year for about 2-3 months. That way it never gets old but people will always get excited when it comes around.
It’s weird but I kinda needed this video dude. You’re one of the first destiny streamers that I got into and I’ve been all-in with the franchise for so long now that just thinking about getting on d2 to farm diff rolled gear on the same ol Shit wasn’t sounding fun but I needed this quick punch of nostalgia to get motivated to do more prep for witch queen so thanks!

I always have an itch to go back and play this, being a broke teenager at the time when taken king came out, I was never able to play TTK and RoI, eventually I bought TTK but then realized I couldn't do much without RoI, and ended up never playing through the two of them as D2 had come out, to this day I never bought RoI. I'm excited for the witch queen, but there's nothing in D2 that has ever felt the same as the first time I got Vex to drop, or getting on after school to beat Skolas. Getting to experience that game with my friends for the first time is something I will never forget
My issue with old strikes was there wasn't much that made the bosses different. Most of them were just big health bars that would instakill you if you were in the open too long. I like Alak' Ull and the Bond Brothers. Would love to have a boss that would combine abilities of bosses and have a third boss where one flies.
Destiny 1 PVE still has things that are better than Destiny 2 PVE. Better strike modifiers. Skeleton keys. Cooler strikes. The best Raid ever ( Wrath).
@@MovableFormula wrath was good but you had to get a very coordinated team for the parts part. But kingsfalls ship jump will be my favorite parts in any raid.
There is a green fusion rifle that I got with take a knee, thing was/is nuts. Also got a y1 blue pulse that has 97 stability with reactive reload. To s if other guns that I kept bc they were wacky and fun. One of the best things about destiny, especially in y1, was how rare weapons had quite a bit of identity and could get random rolls
I think they should give Blues more depth to make them viable in D2, along with the chance to become a random legendary. To me it added to the mythic feel of legendaries and Exotics while also not making blues a clutter of uselessness sitting in the postmaster.
I forget which came first. The devil you know or the devil you don't. Whichever one was first was my first purple and I was weirdly hyped when I saw the counter part when it was added later. D1 made me feel more for two guns than it did for elsie being revealed to be the exo stranger and that's really unfortunate. More than when zavala was almost killed. Damn near more than when I learned of and watched cayde's death. D1 had something in its soul that D2 just doesn't have.
The issue of 3 peeking in D2 was amplified by the super system and passive play. In D1 camping for your super was a strategy but not as effective than just getting a kill when compared to D2. 11:50 for example, you got a near quarter of your super from one kill.

Nostalgia can hit pretty hard tho
I felt strikes were more creative in D1. Loved the one where you fight the hive in a pitch black room. Also loved the design of Oryx’s ship environment. Super cool. These open planet environments just don’t have the same vibe.
i replayed heroic strikes in d1 for fun and the occasional loot. i "grinded" bc i liked doing those activities. in d2 it gets so boring at times
Is the strike your talking about have Alaak Huul as the boss?
And they did not destroy the main campaign.
The Nostalgia is back
Bro D1 is so nostalgic for me. I remember playing it when it came out in 2014. I played it on the Xbox 360. Great times.
We all so nostalgic about this game that just watching a guy playing, doing completely normally things seems insane.
Fr
The art and creativity just smashes destiny 2 in my opinion everything just looks so boring sometimes even the orbit back drop is super beautiful
Sometimes I'd agree, d1's best beats d2. D2 beats 95% of d1 out of the park tho.
idk, honestly d2 is a gorgeous game and the environment designs are pretty much unparalleled

Well it’s going to get even more complicated in Witch Queen with the introduction of weapon crafting
Personally I like it a bit more complicated, the build crafting makes alot of the game for me
One of the reasons i never got into D2.
The weapon foundries were so much more realized I wish banshee would sell like two weapons for each foundry in d2 instead of random world drops
Nostalgia is a strong drug.
One of, if not the best drug
Yeah I remember the tumultuous years of D1... Campaign used to be heralded as pure garbage
Memba?

When you're watching a nostalgia video on a game you still play daily and see 2 of your clanmates in the crucible lobby with Unknown 😮🤣
When u played crucible with that pulse rifle I instantly remembered red death... Man was that good
I've always had a love/hate relationship with Destiny.
(Every single expansion, with the exception of The Witch Queen, is poorly rated on steam.)
The PvP is a mess.
Any idea how I can unlock Venus/Mars please m8?
@@fatdad9361 Venus, Mars, Io, Mercury, Tangled Shore and it's activities are gone. They can't be unlocked, unfortunately.
The vaulting should lowkey be illegal lol
It’s defo the lightning
D2 isn't the same game.
I think it's quite clear with the musical direction, art style, and overall tonal shift that D2 isn't the game a lot of veterans fell in love with. It was always D1. D1 was more fantasy than Sci-fi, and I think it really shows in overall armor design and world lighting between the two games.

Destiny 1 was epic, the pace was much more bearable, the balance was spot on.

Everything in destiny 1 for PVE was amazing
My issue with old strikes was there wasn't much that made the bosses different. Most of them were just big health bars that would instakill you if you were in the open too long. I like Alak' Ull and the Bond Brothers. Would love to have a boss that would combine abilities of bosses and have a third boss where one flies.
I love going into Destiny to sit at the Tower and chill out listening to the music
