My son builds his songs that way too because I started him on rock drums before jazz or other instruments Now,when we write together, i follow his lead mostly 2/4 with 8th notes as a base unless he’s feeling all Tool for a vibe , getting swingy with it , tossing in a random Dorian mode trying to take it to Egypt in an attempt at psychedelic funky rap rock pneuma meets The 10 commandments Burnstein style. Kids a total messy trip to play with, and I love it!
