This helped ALOT Tysm!! I’ve been using a rope halter so I’ll definitely have to try a different halter! The only problem is with the horse I’m working with (Coffee bean) is SUPER face shy, and js super shy in general. She’s only rly been around people for maybe 3 months? She hasn’t been consistently worked with, on and off with a couple weeks off to working for 5 days in a row, definitely didn’t have a good consistent schedule. She can be around a halter on the ground and stuff but she prefers to be away from it and everytime u js pick it up she takes off. Definitely made progress tdy and got the nose band on but it took ALOT of lunging 😅
@@AbbyndBentlee You found it! And you’re welcome!!! I see what you mean, and I’ll just encourage you that (I know you know this but) it all just takes time and patience! Now, after 5 months with Sovereignty, I can put a rope halter on her no problem! But I think a regular halter is definitely easier to get on at first, if it can slip straight over their ears like the one in this video does. Another thing you could try is building trust with her by showing her that you see her and are interested in working WITH HER WILL, and not against her will. You can try matching her steps and then stoping to reach out and gently stroke her face and then immediately walk away…. Even if you think that she could handle more, don’t push it too much at first (I don’t mean to sound rude😅). This is a way of showing that you desire to be in sync with her (by matching steps) and then thanking her for trusting you to touch a sensitive area. It also shows that you respect her space, which then makes her respect you as a leader and she will eventually want to follow. The more you do this, the more she will trust you to do more with her. This is what I did with Sovereignty for the first couple days: approach and retreat. Every time I left, she followed me. I’ve had her for 5 months and have hardly had to lunge her at all! I used to think that lunging was the answer for just about anything regarding horses, and it can be sometimes, but in a case of building trust (which you need to get close to getting a halter on) there are lots of other options that don’t completely tire out the horse.🫶 (I have videos of what days 1-7 looked like with Sovereignty, but 1 and 2 specifically show what I was just talking about) Pleaseeeee don’t take any of this like I am against you or judging you!😭 I promise I’m not, I just thought it would be good to share what’s worked for me and several other trainers☺️ I can’t wait to see the amazing things you do with that filly😍😍😍 (Oh my goodness gravy that was a whole sermon😭 sorry bout that😅)
Haha yes!! Okk, good to know I’ll definitely get a different halter then!! Ya, I definitely need to build a better bond as today is the 1st day I’ve actually worked with her. I’ve worked with her b4 but js for like 5-10 mins but that was for only 2 days, but today we worked an hour!! What I did today was, I lunged her for 20 mins both ways w, t, and l, when she approached me I would stand there not touching her at all, walked out of the round pin (I hid the grain by the arena) had her follow me to the gate, went out grabbed a handful of grain while she waited patiently for me, came back fed her, and did a tad bit more lunging after a 3 min break, mostly working on having her turn around while in motion still. Took another break 1/2 way though and js kinda showed her everytime I pick/swing the whip up u don’t have to run unless I cluck and swing it. Then the rest of the 30 mins I gave her the bowl of grain with the halter hovering the bowl. Haha it doesn’t feel like it, I feel like this definitely helped me a lot! I definitely need the help as I’ve broke horses, but I’ve never started from a mustang! Awwww, I’m excited to see where she’goes!! Tysm for the tips, I rly appreciate it, and you taking your time to reply!!! 🫶🏼💞 (Haha your totally fine mines pretty long too 😭)
@@AbbyndBentlee Ofc💕 it sounds like things are going pretty well for yall! I love how many breaks you mentioned giving her. It’s soooo important for horses to be able to process everything that they just experienced, especially when they’re first starting off! Great job! I’m glad you found my blabbering helpful😅😂 Please let me know if you ever have any questions!!🫶💕
@@Selahsrefuge I’m so sorry I am somehow just seeing this! She only ever bit me once… if you’ve seen some of the other videos on my channel you’ve probably picked up on the fact that she was mishandled and considered aggressive when I adopted her, so her bravery was (and IS) quite remarkable❤️

Did you ever have any problems with her biting? She seems fairly easy going.😊
