After discovering a number of previously unknown diaries from the regiment, written at the time of the events, Gareth Glover, an ex-Royal Navy man with no regimental affiliations, has sought to establish the truth around the sequence of events leading to the defeat of the Imperial Guard.
Gareth Glover is an ex Royal Navy Officer who has studied the Napoleonic wars for forty years and has uncovered and published over three hundred previously unknown or rare memoirs of the period by British soldiers of all ranks, to improve markedly our understanding of the period. He has also written a number of revised histories based on new research including Waterloo, Myth and Reality.

Vandeleur a general seldom mentioned but performed extremely well. Had a long impressive military career and as Wellington came from Ireland. What is often overlooked about this battle is how long the daylight lasts at this time of year and how hot the sun can be.

A couple of years ago I read in a Victorian journal the views of Wiliam Leeke and Richard Hussey Vivian retort etc. So for me this was for me a very interesting video to watch because it is modern take on an old Victorian controversy with annotated maps to help explain it. Also the helpful collation of so many primary sources to add depth to the analysis.
As an aside Vivian in his retort, states that he was basing his journal entry on notes he wrote shortly after the battle. He notes that between La Belle Alliance and Rossomme he saw a number of what today would be called "friendly fire casualties" where Wellington's troops and the Prussians clashed in the twilight assuming the other to be French. I suspect it was to prevent fratricide not the tiredness of Wellington's troops that a decision was taken for the Prussians to pursue the French south of Rossomme. This is backed up by Wellington's German speaking Black Brunswicker cavalry joining in the persuit of the French south of Rossomme. Has anyone published anything about fratricide rather than tiredness being the main explanation for the bulk of the pursuers being Prussian?

A bit biased account of the final moments at Waterloo in my opinion. Why the intervention of Ziethen prussian 1st corps at about the same time as the imperial guard attack was determinant at the end of the battle is not mentioned? That corps cavalry also chased the french in their retreat down the slope as far as I can remember.

Some did and Others didn’t Because When Louis Cane back The old guard was on the 1st on the list to disband Because it was seen as a ‘’Napoleon Figire’’ So That means Kit Would of been recalled like Backpacks Ands Uniforms That can be reproduced into another Regiment I think And Bearskins are Dear Like in the American Revolution British grenadiers would wear cocked hats Because they would have to pay to get a new bearskin if they lost it So they were more used in parade then battle so it would be the same With the bearskin case Also supply Reasons Even the regulars Alot didn’t had proper Unifroms Because the ones who Came back to fight for napoleon Again Most of their regiments Were disbanded Cause of their loyalty to Napoleon So The wear would of been Basic Cocked hats With your Powder belt and bayonet And a Backpack With your great cost in most cases And if lucky you Might get a full unifrom So basically Supply reasons and expensives
