A very underrated and forgotten battle in the Pacific theatre. The Aleutian Islands were just off Alaska and were invaded by the Japanese army on June 7th 1942. The Japanese took the Attu and Kiska islands. They weren’t recaptured until 1943 when American forces landed on August 15. The battle however was very messy mainly due to the fact the American forces landing there were largely unprepared for weather and underestimated the Japanese forces there. Attu island was especially a viscous battle with the Americans sustaining heavy casualties. Kiska Island however the Japanese retreated and just left to the surprise of the Americans. A somewhat funny thing about the Battle of Kiska island was the weather was so bad and foggy that the Americans started shooting at each other because they didn’t know the Japanese left and would mistake a friendly unit for a Japanese one.
Really enjoyed the video so far I got an idea for the next video... Battle of the Philippine Sea with Ace Combat Zero's Mayhem soundtrack as it is mostly an air to air combat mission
